The Chicago Bears signed free-agent tight end James O'Shaughnessy to an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday. The former Jacksonville Jaguar tight end will join Cole Kmet, Ryan Griffin and Jesper Horsted in Chicago. The 30-year-old dealt with hip and ankle injuries last year in Jacksonville and only played in seven games, securing 24 of his 34 targets for 244 yards and no touchdowns. In his seven NFL seasons (two with the Kansas City Chiefs), O'Shaughnessy has 112 catches for 1,108 yards and three touchdowns on 166 targets over 80 games (40 starts). He could put a little pressure on Kmet as Chicago's top pass-catching tight end, but fantasy managers shouldn't be looking at O'Shaughnessy in the vast majority of leagues.
Free-agent tight end James O'Shaughnessy did a visit with the Chicago Bears on Monday. The 30-year-old has spent each of the last five seasons with Jacksonville. He posted 24 receptions, 244 receiving yards in seven games (six starts) with the Jaguars last season. O'Shaughnessy was asked to move into a starting role for six games last year due to injuries. He doesn't exactly bring much to the table, but could be a decent backup and solid blocker behind Cole Kmet in Chicago. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect much from O'Shaughnessy wherever he lands.
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end James O'Shaughnessy (hip) was unable to practice all week and has been ruled out for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Indianapolis Colts. O'Shaughnessy will close out his season by missing the final two games. The 29-year-old will end with 24 receptions on 34 targets for 244 yards and no touchdowns in seven games. It's hard to say who will play the most on Sunday against the Colts among Jacob Hollister, Chris Manhertz and Luke Farrell at the position for the Jaguars, but fantasy managers should be avoiding the situation altogether. The Colts have been a good matchup for opposing TEs this year, but Jacksonville's tight end committee isn't attractive whatsoever.
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end James O'Shaughnessy (hip) missed a second straight day of practice this week on Thursday. After sitting out the Week 17 blowout loss to the New England Patriots, O'Shaughnessy looks primed to finish out the season on the sidelines in the Week 18 regular season finale against the Indianapolis Colts. The good news is that the Jags have gotten tight ends Jacob Hollister and Chris Manhertz back from the COVID-19 list for this weekend's game, so they'll have a little more help at the position if O'Shaughnessy sits out again. If O'Shaughnessy is out, the best bet is that Hollister and Luke Farrell split most of the playing time at the position against the Colts. Fantasy managers should ignore the TE position in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end James O'Shaughnessy (hip) missed another practice on Wednesday after sitting out of the Week 17 blowout loss to the New England Patriots. It's not a good start for O'Shaughnessy this week, and he'll need to get back on the field in the next two days in order to have a shot at playing in the Week 18 regular season finale against the Indianapolis Colts, where the Jags will merely be looking to play spoiler. In his absence last week, Luke Farrell caught one of two targets for seven yards. The Jaguars have gotten Chris Manhertz and Jacob Hollister back from the COVID-19 list, so they'll at least have more options at the position this Sunday if O'Shaughnessy misses another game. Fantasy gamers would be wise to avoid the TE position in Jacksonville in both DFS and season-long formats to close out the regular season.
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end James O'Shaughnessy (hip) didn't practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 17 against the New England Patriots. The Jaguars tight end depth will really be tested this week, as Dan Arnold, Chris Manhertz and Jacob Hollister are all on the COVID-19 list. The good news is that the Jags got Luke Farrell back from the list on Friday. Farrell and Kahale Warring are the only tight ends on the team's active roster right now. Farrell should serve as the team's starter if none of the other guys come off the COVID list, but he should be avoided in fantasy against a Patriots defense that has been stingy against the position this year. Farrell has six catches on nine targets for 49 yards and no touchdowns in 13 games in 2021.
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end James O'Shaughnessy (hip) missed another practice on Thursday. O'Shaughnessy will likely have to return to the practice field on Friday in order to have a shot at playing in Week 17 against the New England Patriots. The Jaguars could have real issues at the tight end position this weekend, with Dan Arnold, Chris Manhertz, Jacob Hollister and Luke Farrell all currently on the COVID-19 list. If O'Shaughnessy isn't able to play on Sunday, Kahale Warring, who is the only other active TE on the roster, would be thrust into the starting role. At best, O'Shaughnessy is a low-upside TE2 in fantasy if he's able to play. He's caught 24 of his 34 targets this year for 244 yards and no touchdowns in seven games.
James O'Shaughnessy Missing From Practice Wednesday
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end James O'Shaughnessy (hip) did not take part in practice on Wednesday. O'Shaugnessy's absence from practice is notable since fellow tight ends Dan Arnold, Chris Manhertz, Jacob Hollister and Luke Farrell are all currently on the COVID-19 list. If O'Shaughnessy is unable to play in Week 17 against the New England Patriots, Kahale Warring would be thrust into a starting role on Sunday. O'Shaughnessy is the tight end to roster in fantasy in Jacksonville as long as Arnold is sidelined, but he's not a realistic TE1 streamer in the Jags low-upside offense led by struggling rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence. O'Shaughnessy has exactly four receptions in each of his last three games, good for 130 scoreless yards. The Patriots have also been a tough matchup for opposing TEs this year.
James O'Shaughnessy Posts 49 Receiving Yards In Loss
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end James O'Shaughnessy caught all four of his targets for 49 yards in his team's close Week 16 loss to the Jets. As expected, O'Shaughnessy proved capable of providing a solid floor, but his inability to provide any sort of ceiling hurts his value going forward. Additionally, Dan Arnold (knee) could potentially return as soon as next week, so fantasy managers should attempt to find a more bankable streaming option at the position the rest of the way if at all possible.
James O'Shaughnessy - Week 16 Outlook for Fantasy Football
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end James O'Shaughnessy is one of the better streaming options at the tight end position against the Jets in Week 16. Now operating as the primary pass-catching tight end in Jacksonville, O'Shaughnessy racked up four catches for 60 yards against the Texans last week, and the Jets present an even better matchup. Further, slot receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. (Covid list) is set to miss Week 16's game, so the veteran tight end could soak up a ton of targets in the middle of the field. Overall, fantasy managers desperate for a high floor streamer at the position should feel comfortable trotting out O'Shaughnessy this week.
