Jesse James Eyes Bounce-Back Campaign Despite Competition

Detroit Lions tight end Jesse James noted Thursday that last season was the toughest year that he had since becoming a professional. Having inked a four-year deal to join the Lions prior to the start of 2019, James produced just 16 receptions for 142 yards, quickly becoming a fantasy non-entity. The addition of T.J. Hockenson certainly didnt help his outlook, but with the duo now having had more time to gel together, they should both benefit from a healthy Matthew Stafford to open 2020. James is a DFS-only option at this stage, although should injuries continue to hamper Hockenson, James could be a high-upside deep league addition.

Jesse James Tops Lions Depth

Detroit Lions tight end Jesse James was listed as the top tight end on the Lions first official depth chart. The veteran, and newly signed Lion, should be in store for a relatively busy season. He will be competing for snaps with rookie standout T.J. Hockenson but the Lions have already mentioned they will be running numerous two tight end sets. There is not much fantasy value for James but he isn't the worst option later in the season as injuries and bye weeks begin. For now, James will likely go undrafted in most leagues.

Jesse James Agrees To Terms With the Lions

Free-agent tight end Jesse James (Steelers) has agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions, a source said Monday. Financial terms and length of the contract have not yet been disclosed. He posted 30 receptions for a career-high 423 yards and 14.1 yards per reception in 2018, and he has scored a total of nine touchdowns over his 56-game, four-year career, all with Pittsburgh. James gives the Lions a much-needed shot in the arm at tight end, as they struggled to replace Eric Ebron last season. It wouldn't be surprising to see James post career highs across the board, but he is still more of a TE2 for fantasy purposes until further notice.
