The New York Giants waived running back Jonathan Hilliman on Friday and signed free-agent running back Javorius Allen in a corresponding move. Hilliman had his first career NFL start on Thursday night against the Patriots with both Saquon Barkley (ankle) and Wayne Gallman (concussion) out. He responded with 11 carries for 38 yards. Buck Allen will be brought in instead to provide depth behind Barkley, who could return in Week 7. Allen had 41 rushing attempts for 110 yards (2.7 yards per carry) and three touchdowns in 14 games in his final season with the Ravens in 2018. He can remain on the waiver wire in most leagues.
New York Giants running back Jonathan Hilliman failed to deliver in his first career NFL start. Filling in for both Wayne Gallman (concussion) and Saquon Barkley (ankle), Hilliman plodded his way to 38 yards on 11 carries, while adding -3 yards on two catches. The undrafted free agent fumbled on one of those catches, leading to a Patriots touchdown. The Giants are hoping Barkley is back next week, but even if he isnt, Hilliman is not a recommended play.
Jonathan Hilliman May Lose Touches to Elijhaa Penny
New York Giants running back Jonathan Hilliman seemed set to make his first NFL start on Thursday against the Patriots once Saquon Barkley (ankle) was ruled out. Now it seems as though the Giants may split those snaps between him and converted fullback Elijhaa Penny, who ran better than Hilliman last week. Regardless of who receives the most carries, it's likely to be a split backfield on the road against the Patriots in a game where the Giants should be down. It's best to avoid both options unless you're desperate.
New York Giants running back Jon Hilliman was thrust into the spotlight after Wayne Gallman left with a concussion. He predictably flopped, finishing with 20 yards on nine carries and four yards on one catch. With Barkley trying to return on Thursday, Hilliman should be left on waivers in all leagues. Even if Barkley misses Thursday, you shouldn't play Hilliman against the Patriots. Let somebody else use their FAAB dollars.
Jonathan Hilliman Operates As Giants Backup Running Back
New York Giants running back Jonathan Hilliman operated as the backup to Wayne Gallman on Sunday, carrying the ball 10 times for 33 yards while also losing a fumble. Hilliman is not a fantasy-relevant player and shouldnt be on rosters. It wouldnt be surprising to see the Giants bring in a veteran at the running back position this week.
