The Browns elevated running back Jordan Wilkins from the practice squad ahead of the team's upcoming meeting in Seattle. Under normal circumstances, this move wouldn't be newsworthy. However, it may paint a bigger picture, potentially signaling an impending absence by Jerome Ford (ankle), who remains questionable for Week 8. Fortunately for Cleveland, Kareem Hunt (thigh) was removed from the injury report, so he'll be the No. 1 option out of the backfield versus the Seahawks. Pierre Strong Jr. should also get some work, so fantasy managers shouldn't consider adding Wilkins in any format, considering the move was likely made purely for depth purposes.
Jordan Wilkins Signs With Cleveland Practice Squad
The Cleveland Browns signed free-agent running back Jordan Wilkins to their practice squad on Tuesday. Wilkins will join the squad after the Browns released Deon Jackson earlier in the week. Wilkins spent some time with Cleveland during this past training camp before being cut but he will now return to provide some depth after Jerome Ford injured his ankle during a Week 7 win. If Ford ends up missing some time, Wilkins could be elevated to the 53-man roster as the RB3 in Cleveland behind Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong Jr.
The Browns released running back Jordan Wilkins on Sunday. The 29-year-old signed with the Browns only a few weeks ago, so his tenure in Cleveland was short-lived. Wilkins, best known for his time with the Colts, has appeared in 54 games during his career, rushing for 1,009 yards and four touchdowns off 209 carries. He also has 41 catches for 262 yards. While there's a good chance Wilkins will find employment with another team in 2023-24, he has a way to go before being a relevant fantasy option.
Jordan Wilkins Seeing Extra Opportunities In Training Camp
Cleveland Browns running back Jordan Wilkins is getting extra reps in practice as Jerome Ford (hamstring) continues to sit out. The 29-year-old signed with the Browns just a couple of weeks ago to provide depth. The ex-Colt has rushed for over 300 yards in three separate seasons in his career. The veteran is competing with Demetric Felton Jr., John Kelly Jr., and Hassan Hall to be the third back on the depth chart. He'll get one more shot to prove he's worthy of a roster spot on Saturday in the Browns' preseason finale. Even if he does make the cut, he's unlikely to be fantasy-relevant in 2023.
The Cleveland Browns have agreed to a deal with free-agent running back Jordan Wilkins on Saturday. This news comes after Wilkins visited with the organization on Wednesday. The 29-year-old has spent basically his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts outside of one game. He has mainly been a depth player, but has three 300-plus yard rushing seasons under his belt. Wilkins will compete with Demetric Felton and John Kelly Jr. for a reserve role behind Nick Chubb. Wilkins is unlikely to have much of a role even if he does make the 53-man roster.
Free-agent running back Jordan Wilkins worked out for the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC. The 29-year-old logged 1,009 rushing yards, 262 receiving yards, and four touchdowns through 53 games with the Colts. While a deal is not imminent, adding Wilkins would give Cleveland additional depth after Jerome Ford suffered a hamstring injury in training camp.
Phillip Lindsay, Jordan Wilkins Elevated To Active Roster
With Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) out for Week 9 against the New England Patriots on Sunday, the team elevated running backs Phillip Lindsay and Jordan Wilkins from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday. The Colts traded Nyheim Hines to the Bills on Tuesday, so they'll need additional depth with Taylor injured. Indy landed Zack Moss from Buffalo as well, but he's unlikely to be up to speed in his debut with the team after just being acquired on Tuesday. Deon Jackson should operate as the lead back against the Pats with Taylor out, but Lindsay did have 14 carries and caught six passes earlier this year in the two games that Taylor missed due to injury.
Jaguars Sign John Brown, Jordan Wilkins To Practice Squad
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran wide receiver John Brown and running back Jordan Wilkins to their practice squad on Monday and released running back Kerrith Whyte Jr. from the practice squad in a corresponding move. Brown spent some time on the Denver Broncos practice squad this year and could catch his only target in the two games he was active in Weeks 6 and 7. He'll merely provide depth at the position behind the likes of Tyron Johnson, Laquon Treadwell, Tavon Austin and Jamal Agnew. Wilkins played just one offensive snap in four games with the Indianapolis Colts this year. He will provide additional running back depth after James Robinson (heel) missed the Week 9 upset win over the Buffalo Bills.
The Indianapolis Colts waived Jordan Wilkins on Saturday among a flurry of roster moves ahead of their Week 8 game against the Tennessee Titans. Linebacker Jordan Glasgow was activated from Injured Reserve and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo was activated from the Non-Football Injury list, while running back Deon Jackson and safety Josh Jones were brought up from the practice squad to the active roster. Defensive tackle Khalil Davis was waived as well. Wilkins played just one offensive snap in four games this season while working well behind Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines and Marlon Mack in Indy's backfield.
Indianapolis Colts running back Jordan Wilkins (COVID-19) has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and will not be on the field for the team's season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars. At this point, the team hasn't informed the press as to whether Wilkins tested positive for COVID-19 or if he was a close contact. Wilkins had seen his role diminish over the past few weeks. Rookie Jonathan Taylor will lead the backfield for the Colts in Week 17 with Nyheim Hines as his backup.
