Green Bay Packers rookie inside linebacker Kamal Martin (knee), who was in the mix to start in Week 1, is undergoing knee surgery and is expected to miss several weeks, according to sources. Martin will likely be out six to eight weeks, making him a candidate to return from Injured Reserve. Oren Burks is also injured for the Packers at the position, so Ty Summers, a seventh-round pick last year, could see a big early season opportunity in the middle of Green Bay's defense. Martin, 22, should have a chance to make an impact later in the season, but a big chunk of his rookie season is now wiped out.
The Green Bay Packers have selected Minnesota linebacker Kamal Martin with the No. 175 pick during the fifth round. At first glance, Martin looks like a professional linebacker, but he lacks athletic ability. He finished with 66 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack during the 2019 season. Martin is not projected to start at linebacker, but he'll give Green Bay nice depth at the position. He probably won't end up as a starter in the NFL, but he's solid for depth purposes.
