Kurt Benkert Fantasy

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kurt Benkert looked good on Thursday despite his team falling to the Denver Broncos in the first preseason game of the season. The 24-year-old, who exited the game prematurely after suffering a toe injury, finished the night by going 19-for-24 for 185 yards in addition to completing a touchdown pass to running back Brian Hill. Benkert is in his second season with the club, spending the 2018 season with the practice squad. He will continue to battle veteran Matt Schaub, who finished with only 10 yards on four completions (14 attempts), for the second spot on the team's depth chart behind quarterback Matt Ryan. Though he has barely any fantasy value at the moment, you may hear his name again at some point during the regular season.

The Atlanta Falcons released quarterback Kurt Benkert during their roster cut down on Saturday. Benkert had every opportunity to push for a roster spot as the Falcons third QB. However, Benkert has managed to play himself out of a roster spot this preseason. Benkert's numbers from the four preseason games were 28 completions on 64 passing attempts with 347 yards, zero touchdowns and four interceptions. Benkert's preseason performance has all but prevented him from being offered a backup job anywhere else in the league. Therefore, his best chance of a future in the league lies on the Falcons practice squad.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kurt Benkert did not have a very good night in the final preseason game against the Miami Dolphins Thursday. Benkert got the start and played well into the second half. However, he only managed to complete 10 of his 25 passes for 103 yards. In addition, Benkert was picked off twice and sacked three times. This game ends a relatively unsuccessful preseason for Benkert, who would have been hoping to put pressure on Matt Schaub for the backup QB role. At best, Benkert might scrape onto the Falcons roster as the third QB but he is more likely going to find himself on the practice squad.
