Jets Sign Laurent Duvernay-Tardif

The New York Jets are signing free-agent offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to an undisclosed deal on Thursday after his workout on Monday, according to a source. Duvernay-Tardif finished a portion of his medical residency in Canada recently. He liked his time with the Jets last year and has now returned to give them more offensive line depth for the rest of 2022. The 31-year-old veteran paused his NFL career in June to focus on his medical studies, but now he's back in the NFL after starting seven games for Gang Green last season.

Jets Looking To Add Laurent Duvernay-Tardif

The New York Jets brought in right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif for a workout and are looking to add him to their practice squad. The 31-year-old, who possesses medical training, stepped away from football in 2020 to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic. He was drafted by the Chiefs in 2014 and spent the first five years of his career there. He also appeared in eight games for the Jets during the second half of last year. New York is currently second in the AFC East, looking to bolster its depth for a potential playoff run.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Putting His Career On Hold

Free-agent offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is putting his NFL career on hold again while he starts a residency program at a Montreal-area hospital next month to take care of medical requirements needed to become a physician. The 31-year-old, who spent last year with the New York Jets, said he isn't retiring from football. "I'm going to prioritize medicine and we'll see in September if there's a fit," Duvernay-Tardif said. "After eight years in the NFL, and I don't want to sound pretentious by saying this, but I think I've earned the right to do what's best for me and not just for football and kind of bet on myself a little bit." Duvernay-Tardif spent the first five years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs and opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Armani Watts Put On IR

The Kansas City Chiefs placed offensive guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (leg) and safety Armani Watts (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday and signed free-agent linebacker Frank Zombo in a corresponding move. Although Duvernay-Tardif wasn't a very effective starter on the offensive line, it'll be a hit to KC's line moving forward.
