Lavonte David News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David (hamstring) and rookie safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (ankle) are both listed as questionable for the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 7. Pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul (knee) was removed from the injury report after practicing all week. David and Winfield didn't practice all week, so they'll have to make big improvements next week in order to have a shot at playing in the big game. David is one of the best all-around linebackers in the game, so the Buccaneers can ill-afford to lose him on the big state against the high-scoring Chiefs offense. He tallied 82 tackles, 1.5 sacks, six passes defensed, one interception, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries during the regular season. Winfield has also been a big-time playmaker for the team's secondary in his rookie season. He's hoping to return to the field after sitting out of the NFC Championship.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David (knee) suffered a hyperextended knee in the blowout loss to the division-rival Saints on Sunday night, but he's expected to be fine going forward. David was able to record four solo tackles and three assists while also recovering a fumble in Week 9. The 30-year-old from Nebraska is a weekly starter in IDP leagues at his position and has accumulated the fourth-most fantasy points among linebackers through nine weeks of the season. Overall, David has 67 tackles (48 solo), six tackles for loss, three QB hits, one interception, four passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and 1.5 sacks. The Buccaneers Defense was a major disappointment against New Orleans, but they could bounce back in a Week 10 meeting with the Panthers, who could be without star running back Christian McCaffrey (shoulder).
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had recent negotiations with linebacker Lavonte David with an eye towards a contract extension, according to a source. David is due to make $10.75 million this year in the final year of his current deal. The 30-year-old is heading into his ninth season with the Buccaneers and has been the face of their defense for a while. The former second-rounder was a first-team All-Pro in 2013 and a Pro Bowler in 2015. He's had over 100 combined tackles in all but one of his eight seasons, including 123 (82 solo) in 2019 in 16 games. In what could be an even better Buccaneers Defense in 2020, David is undoubtedly an every-week starter at his position in IDP leagues.
