Lucas Niang Tears Patellar Tendon

Kansas City Chiefs tackle Lucas Niang (knee) tore his patellar tendon and will miss almost a full year. For a young player trying to prove himself, this is absolutely devastating. Niang did a good job in filling in for Orlando Brown (calf), but now his career has been derailed. Hopefully he can return and get his career back on track, but the Chiefs will have to scour for offensive line depth in the offseason.

Lucas Niang Set To Return In 2021

Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Lucas Niang, who opted out last season due to COVID-19, is expected to return this season and play right tackle for the team. That's big news after the Chiefs released Mitchell Schwartz recently. They also signed guard Joe Thuney to a big five-year deal in free agency, and Thuney has the ability to play multiple spots along the line. The Chiefs are also visiting with veteran guard Kyle Long, who is working towards a comeback after a year of retirement. Kansas City also released left tackle Eric Fisher after an Achilles injury sidelined him in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs makeshift offensive line was destroyed by the Buccaneers in their Super Bowl loss, so upgrading the big men in front of quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a top priority this offseason.

Chiefs Add To Their Offensive Line With Lucas Niang

The Kansas City Chiefs selected TCU offensive tackle Lucas Niang with the 96th overall pick in the NFL Draft on Friday night. Niang is a large man at 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, and he will provide solid depth on the line with a chance to carve out a starting role. Despite his size, scouts have raved about his lateral movement at the offensive tackle spot. The Chiefs didn't have a ton of needs coming into the draft, so this pick is mostly for depth purposes, but the fantasy community certainly won't complain about solidifying the offensive line and protecting quarterbackPatrick Mahomes.
