The Washington Commanders released veteran wide receiver Marcus Kemp on Monday, according to a source. Kemp spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants last year, but didn't have a single target in three active contests with the Chiefs. In five seasons in the NFL, he has just four catches on eight targets for 42 yards in 47 games (zero starts). The 28-year-old is mostly an asset on special teams while also providing depth in the receiver room. He will now hope to catch on with another organization before the start of the 2023 regular season.
The Washington Commanders have signed wide receiver Marcus Kemp to a one-year deal. This is by no means a blockbuster move, but a nice decision to add depth to their wide receiver room. The 27-year-old bounced between the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad and active roster last season. He rarely saw action on offense, but was heavily used on special teams in Kansas City. Former Chiefs coordinator Eric Bieniemy took the offensive coordinator job with the Commanders this offseason. Possibly, Bieniemy has bigger plans for Kemp in 2023. Fantasy managers can continue to ignore Kemp because he'll probably be used mostly on special teams.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marcus Kemp (knee) is done for the season after suffering a torn ACL and MCL. Kemp suffered the injury during the second preseason game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. He was great for the Chiefs on special teams last season, so losing him will hurt the team. He wasn't going to make an impact in fantasy leagues, but this will hurt the special teams unit for Kansas City.
