The New York Giants worked out XFL St. Louis Battlehawks defensive tackle Kevin Atkins on Monday, according to a league source. The Giants also worked out linebackers Joe Giles-Harris, Kyahva Tezino and running back Mark Thompson. The 24-year-old Atkins played his college ball at Fresno State and also spent some time with the San Francisco 49ers, although he has never appeared in an NFL game. Thompson, meanwhile won the offensive Most Valuable Player award in the USFL and could be brought in to provide depth at the running back position in New York.
Detroit Lions running back Mark Thompson ran 11 times for 35 yards and caught two passes for 20 yards in Week 4 of the preseason against the Cleveland Browns. Thompson has had a solid preseason, but unfortunately the Lions running back depth chart may not have room for him. Thompson is a talented, big back that has a great chance of making the practice squad and developing into a really solid running back. For now, Thompson is completely off the fantasy radar, but he is a name to be familiar with over the next couple of years.
Detroit Lions running back Mark Thompson had eight carries for 34 yards and a touchdown along with one catch for five yards in Week 3 of the preseason against the Buffalo Bills. Thompson is battling for a roster spot and Friday night's outing will certainly help. However, Thompson falls below four other running backs and even if he makes the roster, he will likely not see many touches, if any. Thompson has no fantasy value as of right now.
