Marvin Jones Jr. Released By Lions

Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. announced on Tuesday that he was stepping away from the team due to personal family matters. Jones was then released by the team. "To be brief, I am stepping away from the team to take care of personal family matters," Jones wrote in part in an Instagram post. "Although this was no easy decision, I cannot be the person/player that I need to be for this team as well as tend to my family from afar." The veteran pass-catcher did not travel with the team to Baltimore in Week 7 and had very little production to begin the season, catching five passes for 35 yards on 10 targets. The 33-year-old didn't mention anything about retirement. The former fifth-rounder has played in 151 career games and has 547 catches for 7,421 yards and 58 touchdowns. With Jones out of the picture, Kalif Raymond could have a bigger role as wideout depth in Detroit.

Marvin Jones Jr. Stepping Away From Lions

Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. announced on social media that he is stepping away from the team to take care of personal family matters. Jones didn't travel with the team to Baltimore to face the Ravens in Week 7 and will now be away from the team for the foreseeable future. The 33-year-old veteran had not seen much of a role in the offense through six games, catching five of his 10 targets for 35 yards. In Jones' absence, Jameson Williams and Kalif Raymond could be on the field a bit more behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Josh Reynolds in Detroit's receiving corps. Fantasy managers that were stashing Jones in really deep leagues can go ahead and drop him now. UPDATE: The Lions released Jones on Tuesday.

Marvin Jones Jr. Ruled Out For Personal Reasons

Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. (personal) is not traveling with the team to Baltimore to face the Ravens in Week 7 and has been ruled out for Sunday's game for personal reasons. Jones has been well off the fantasy radar this year in his return to Detroit, as he's caught just five passes on 10 targets for 35 yards and no touchdowns in six contests. The 33-year-old has been buried on the receiver depth chart behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Jameson Williams and Kalif Raymond. His absence on Sunday shouldn't have a notable impact on the Lions offense one way or another in a tough matchup against the Ravens on the road.

Marvin Jones Jr. Opens Camp On Non-Football Injury List

According to Lions head coach Dan Campbell, wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. (undisclosed) is on the non-football injury list. The 33-year-old inked a one-year deal to return to Detroit after playing in Jacksonville for the last two seasons. He finished with only 46 receptions for 529 yards and three touchdowns in 2022, some of the lowest marks of his career. That said, since the reason for Jones' absence hasn't been made public, it's unknown if he'll be ready for the 2023-24 campaign. However, he isn't expected to be a consistent fantasy producer even if he's on the field, although he should benefit from a Lions' high-powered offensive approach.

Marvin Jones Jr. Expected To Sign With Lions

Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. is expected to sign a one-year, $3 million deal worth up to $5 million with the Detroit Lions, according to a source. Jones spent the last two years with the Jaguars, but before that he played in Detroit from 2016-20. In 16 regular season games (10 starts) for Jacksonville in 2022, he caught 46 of his 81 targets for 529 yards and three touchdowns, numbers that all represented his lowest marks since his rookie season in 2012 with the Cincinnati Bengals. The 33-year-old had his only 1,000-yard season with Detroit in 2017, but fantasy managers should probably expect numbers more in line with his 2022 campaign in 2023. Jones figures to see infrequent work in Detroit this time around behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and second-year wideout Jameson Williams.

Marvin Jones Jr. Limited To 21 Yards In Playoff Loss

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. caught only one of his three targets for 21 yards in Saturday's 27-20 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. The experienced wideout has been an inconsistent option all season with him being behind Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram in terms of Trevor Lawrence's go-to options in the passing game. After combining for four receptions, 50 yards, and a touchdown in this year's playoffs, Jones' future with the Jaguars is unknown as he is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Marvin Jones Jr. A Risky Option In Divisional Round Matchup

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. is a risky option in Saturday's Divisional Round bout against the Kansas City Chiefs. The veteran wideout caught three passes for 29 yards and a touchdown in last week's victory versus the Los Angeles Chargers. It's been tough to trust the former fifth-round pick every week this season, but he has recorded four-plus targets in five straight games. While Jones is certainly a risky play this weekend, he's a decent GPP option for those in DFS that want to get a bit different from the field.

Marvin Jones Jr. Tallies 61 Receiving Yards In Week 17 Win

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. caught six of his seven targets for 61 receiving yards in Sunday's 31-3 victory over the Houston Texans. The veteran wideout led the Jaguars in receiving yards and targets on Sunday while tying JaMycal Hasty for the most receptions. The Jaguars didn't need Trevor Lawrence to air it out often in Week 17, so it was impressive to see Jones record the most receiving yards he's had in a game since Week 5 against the Texans. Even though he's been inconsistent throughout the season, the 32-year-old wide receiver could see more usage again in Week 18 against a pass-funneling defense of the Tennessee Titans.

Marvin Jones Jr. Touchdown-Dependent In Week 13

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. will take on his old team, the Detroit Lions, in Week 13. He has looked solid this season and has a favorable matchup, but his role as the Jaguars' No. 3 receiver could put a ceiling on his fantasy value. The 32-year-old is averaging 2.6 receptions and 7.0 fantasy points over his last five games. During that span, he has logged just one touchdown and double-digit fantasy performance, both of which came in Week 12. Therefore, any fantasy allure he has this coming weekend will be dependent on Jones finding the end zone. As a result, he should be left on the bench in most leagues.

Marvin Jones Jr. Has Five Catches In Week 9

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. had five catches for 48 yards during the Week 9 win over the Raiders. The veteran had his second-highest catch total of the year on Sunday. However, he didn't offer anything else in terms of production. With only one touchdown in 2022-23 and an inconstant Trevor Lawrence at the helm, Jones is barely a flex option in deep fantasy formats, and even that's pushing it.
