Free-agent linebacker/defensive end Rashad Weaver has agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Jets, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Weaver was a fourth-round draft choice by the Tennessee Titans in 2021 out of Pittsburgh and registered 49 tackles (29 solo), 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 33 career games during the first three years of his career. He spent last season with the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams, primarily as a practice squad member. He played in three games for Houston but did not log a stat. Weaver likely has an uphill battle to make the Jets' 53-man active roster in 2025.
Tennessee Titans rookie linebacker Rashad Weaver (leg) underwent successful season-ending surgery on Thursday to fix a broken fibula, according to a source. The fourth-round pick suffered the serious injury in the Week 3 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Weaver played on only 18 percent of the team's defensive snaps last Sunday and totaled two assisted tackles. His injury is a hit to Tennessee's linebacking depth, but it won't make their defense/special teams any less attractive in an excellent Week 4 matchup with the New York Jets. Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson has thrown seven interceptions and been sacked a whopping 15 times in his first three NFL games.
Tennessee Titans rookie defensive end Rashad Weaver, the team's fourth-round pick last Saturday, was charged last Friday with one count of simple assault in connection with an incident in April in Pittsburgh. The 23-year-old is accused of punching a woman. The woman was later diagnosed with a concussion and had proof that she was pregnant at the time of the incident. A preliminary hearing in Weaver's case is scheduled for Oct. 5. Weaver's attorney, Dennis M. Blackwell, issued a statement saying that "the allegations against my client, Rashad Weaver, are completely false and reckless." Weaver played for Pittsburgh from 2017 through 2020. He missed all of 2019 with a torn ACL, but he received first-team All-America honors in 2020.
