Rodrigo Blankenship News
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived kicker Rodrigo Blankenship on Monday. Blankenship lost the kicking battle to Chase McLaughlin in training camp this summer and will now look to latch on with another team before the start of the 2023 regular season. The 26-year-old spent last year with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals, going 4-for-5 on his field-goal tries and 4-for-5 on extra points in just three total games. As long as Tampa doesn't bring in more competition for McLaughlin to close out the preseason, he should enter Week 1 as the team's starting kicker. McLaughlin, 27, made 83.3 percent of his 36 field-goal attempts and made all 21 of his extra-point tries in 16 games with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022. The kicking position in Tampa won't be as exciting in fantasy now that Tom Brady isn't running the offense in 2023.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed free-agent kicker Rodrigo Blankenship to an undisclosed deal on Thursday, according to a source. Blankenship had been in Tampa this week on a minicamp tryout, and apparently he impressed the team enough to land a deal for the 2023 season after having surgery in January to fix a torn muscle in his leg. The 26-year-old is healthy now for the first time in over a year and will compete with Chase McLaughlin for the starting job in training camp this summer. Blankenship made four of his five field-goal tries and four of his five extra points in three games with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals last year. Neither Blankenship nor McLaughlin will be very attractive in fantasy in 2023 now that Tom Brady isn't running the Bucs' offense.
Free-agent kicker Rodrigo Blankenship (leg) is trying out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at mandatory minicamp this week, according to a source. Blankenship is finally healthy for the first time in over a year after having surgery to fix a torn muscle in his leg in January. The Buccaneers are one of several teams that are interested in him now that he's healthy. As of right now, Chase McLaughlin is the only kicker on Tampa's roster, but the Bucs figure to bring in competition for him before training camp begins at the end of July. Blankenship, 26, kicked in only three games with the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts last year and made four of his five field-goal attempts and extra-point tries.
