New York Giants tight ends Rhett Ellison (concussion) and Scott Simonson (concussion) have been ruled out for Week 17 against the Eagles. With Evan Engram (foot) also done for the year, rookie Kaden Smith will see his sixth straight start for the G-Men. The 22-year-old has 23 receptions for 170 yards and three touchdowns in his six games, including six catches for 35 yards and two scores last week against the Redskins. He had only two catches for nine yards against the Eagles on Dec. 9, but Smith will be in the TE2 streaming picture for the season finale.
New York Giants tight end Scott Simonson ran with the first and second team during spring practices when Evan Engram was held out of the sessions. Beat writer Matt Lombardo said Simonson made some impressive grabs during the session, as he challenges for the primary backup job behind Engram. He and undrafted rookie C.J. Conrad give the team nice depth at the position behind the starter. Whomever shows a better ability to block might have the upper hand for the No. 2 job. Engram has been dinged up in the past, so Simonson and Conrad could see regular reps at some point.
