Free-agent cornerback Tavon Young signed a one-year, $1.365 million deal with the Chicago Bears. The deal includes $650,000 guaranteed with a $150,000 signing bonus, a $965,000 base salary ($500,000 guaranteed), $11,765 per game if active and up to $400,000 in playoff incentives. Young was released by the Baltimore Ravens last month after spending the first four seasons of his career with the team. The 28-year-old saw a decreased role in 2021 and finished with 35 tackles (30 solo), four tackles for loss, three QB hits, two sacks, one interception and three passes defensed in 17 games (seven starts). Expect Young to compete with Duke Shelley for playing time in Chicago in 2022.
The Baltimore Ravens released cornerback Tavon Young on Wednesday. In his fourth season with Baltimore in 2021, Young recorded 35 tackles (30 solo), four tackles for loss, three QB hits, one interception, three passes defensed and two sacks in 17 games (seven starts). The Ravens will save $5.8 million in salary cap space with the move while leaving behind $3.3 million in dead money. The 27-year-old was a fourth-round pick by the Ravens in 2016 out of Temple. He should draw interest from cornerback-needy teams looking for a slot cornerback, but Young may need to sign a one-year, prove-it deal.
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tavon Young (concussion) won't return to Sunday's outing against the Packers. Jimmy Smith (illness) was ruled out ahead of the contest after he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, so it's another name added to an already long list of absences across the team's secondary. Aaron Rodgers has played well throughout the entire game, and unless something changes, Joe Burrow's fantasy stock looks even better heading into Week 16.
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tavon Young agreed to take a $2.85 million pay cut in 2021 in order to give the team some much-needed salary cap space going into next season, according to a source. Young has only played in one full game since he signed his three-year, $25.8 million extension before the 2019 season, which at the time made him the league's highest-paid nickelback. Baltimore converted $2.514 million of his base salary for this year into a signing bonus. The Ravens had only $1.5 million in cap space in 2020. The 26-year-old also agreed to have his non-guaranteed $5.5 million salary reduced to $2.65 million in 2021. Young missed all of 2019 with a neck injury and suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of this year. He's currently on Injured Reserve.
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that nickel cornerback Tavon Young (knee) will miss the rest of the 2020 season after suffering a torn ACL in the Week 2 win over the Texans. The 26-year-old had just two combined tackles in two games this year, but it's a blow to Baltimore's secondary moving forward. It could immediately become an issue heading into the Week 3 showdown against the Chiefs on Monday Night Football, making Tyreek Hill a better option to go off deep down the field. While the Ravens Defense surely won't have as much high-end fantasy upside this week against the defending Super Bowl champions, they're still in play as a starting unit.
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tavon Young (neck), who missed all of last season after having neck surgery, is healthy and ready to return to one of the best secondaries in the league in 2020. "He says he's healthy. He's ready to go. Tavon is ready to go, and if he tells me he's ready to go, I believe in him 100 percent. And he'll be ready to go, so I'm excited about that," defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said. Young was the highest-paid slot corner when he signed a three-year extension worth an average of $8 million last offseason. He had 36 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks and returned two fumbles for touchdowns in 2018. Young is extremely versatile but won't be on the IDP radar. His return will allow the Ravens to move Marlon Humphrey back outside after he was the team's primary slot corner last year with Young out.
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that cornerback Tavon Young (neck) could miss the entire 2019 season. The 25-year-old slot corner had just signed a three-year extension back in February after being taken in the fourth round in 2016. Young has started 17 of the 31 games he's played in and has three interceptions, four fumble recoveries and two touchdowns in three seasons. The good news is that Cyrus Jones or Brandon Carr can slide into Young's spot if he's forced to miss the entire year. Still, it's a big blow for Baltimore's secondary depth.
