The Indianapolis Colts have signed wide receiver Cobi Hamilton and waived running back Tion Green, according to George Bremer of CNHI Sports Indiana. With pass catchers T.Y. Hilton and K.J. Brent banged up with injuries, signing Hamilton was a necessary move to build depth. Hamilton recorded a single catch for eight yards on six targets with the Houston Texans last season and is no threat to any of the incumbent starters in Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis Colts signed free-agent running back Tion Green on Tuesday. The move to sign Green is largely intended to bolster an ailing Colts running back group, as Marlon Mack and Branden Oliver are both currently hobbled by injuries. Green played in five games with the Detroit Lions as a rookie back in 2017 and finished the season with 42 carries for 165 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He shouldn't see the field much so long as between the tackles bruisers like Christine Michael and Jordan Wilkins are still around, meaning he should remain undrafted in most fantasy formats.
Detroit Lions rookie running back Tion Green was one of the few bright spots in an ugly Lions loss on Sunday. Green carried seven times for 43 yards and a touchdown. While 43 yards is not exceptional, the 6.1 yards per carry is much needed for a Lions team that has struggled to run the ball all season. With nothing left to play for after getting eliminated, Green is likely in line for lead-back duties next week against the Packers as the Lions see what they have in their undrafted rookie back. He could be worth an add in deeper leagues if he does start next week.
Strong Preseason Play Earns Tion Green Roster Spot
The Lions were only expecting to keep four running backs on their 53-man roster, but the strong preseason play of undrafted free agent Tion Green earned him a roster spot. Green put up an impressive 150 yards from scrimmage in Thursday's preseason game against the Bills, including a 74-yard touchdown reception on a screen pass. Green will primarily serve on the special teams and is unlikely to break into the offense ahead of Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick, Zach Zenner and Dwayne Washington. From a fantasy perspective, Green is not worth a roster spot in almost any format. However, injuries have been a problem in the Detroit backfield, so having Green on the roster means he could serve as insurance should injuries befell the backs in front of him.
