Lions Waive Tyrell Williams

The Detroit Lions waived wide receiver Tyrell Williams (concussion) on Friday with an injury settlement. Williams suffered a concussion in the team's Week 1 game and has yet to play since. The 29-year-old was expected to replace Kenny Golladay and serve as quarterback Jared Goff's top receiver in 2021, but that obviously never came to fruition. Even if Williams were to land with another team, it seems unlikely that he'd become a fantasy asset elsewhere since he still hasn't cleared the league's concussion protocol. Rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kaylif Raymond have been Detroit's two most consistent pass-catchers this year outside of running back D'Andre Swift and tight end T.J. Hockenson, but both receivers have been very boom-or-bust in fantasy for the winless Lions.

Tyrell Williams Lands On Injured Reserve

The Detroit Lions placed wide receiver Tyrell Williams (concussion) on Injured Reserve on Thursday and placed kicker Austin Seibert on the COVID-19 list. They also officially signed inside linebacker Josh Woods from the Chicago Bears practice squad. Williams suffered a head injury in the season-opener and did not play in the Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The 29-year-old will now miss at least the next three weeks as he looks to gain clearance from the NFL's concussion protocol in the meantime. Quintez Cephus, Kalif Raymond and rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown figure to start in three-wide sets in his absence, but tight end T.J. Hockenson and the Lions running backs figure to continue leading the team in targets. Cephus, who led the receivers with 89.5 percent of the offensive snaps and seven targets in Week 2, is the best deep-league flier.

Tyrell Williams Ruled Out For Week 3

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tyrell Williams (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens. Williams suffered a head injury in the season opener and was held out of the Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. It's a bad sign that the 29-year-old is being ruled out so early in the week, and fantasy managers should consider him questionable for Week 4. With Williams out on Monday night, Quintez Cephus led the Detroit receiving corps with 89.5 percent of the offensive snaps, with Kalif Raymond and rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown following him. The Ravens defense has uncharacteristically allowed 421 receiving yards and three scores to wideouts in the first two weeks, but it'll still be hard to trust Cephus or the others outside of deeper leagues. Tight end T.J. Hockenson and running backs D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams should continue seeing most of the targets.

Tyrell Williams Not Expected To Play Against Ravens

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tyrell Williams (concussion) is not expected to play against the Ravens in Week 3. Williams was unable to suit up last week against the Packers and NFL players must pass through certain protocols before being allowed to return to the team from a head injury. Williams was signed in the offseason to lead a very thin wide receivers room and playing without him certainly hampers the passing game. Teammates Amon-Ra St. Brown and Quintez Cephus will be tasked, once again, with picking up the slack.

Tyrell Williams Ruled Out For Monday Night

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that wide receiver Tyrell Williams (concussion) has been ruled out for the Monday night meeting with the Green Bay Packers. Williams, the Lions top receiver, had just two catches for 14 yards before he had to leave the Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers with a head injury. After not practicing all week, consider him questionable for Week 3. The Lions have one of the thinnest wide receiver corps in the league, with rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown, Quintez Cephus and Kalif Raymond likely to start in three-receiver sets against Green Bay. Raymond (75 percent) and St. Brown (64.1) saw the biggest snap percentages in the season opener, so they figure to be used the most with Williams out. Trinity Benson should have a bigger role as well, but tight end T.J. Hockenson is the only real fantasy asset that you can trust with any confidence going into Monday night.

Lions Not Optimistic About Tyrell Williams

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell didn't sound optimistic about wide receiver Tyrell Williams (concussion) and his availability for Monday night's game against the Green Bay Packers. Williams remains in the concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in the Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and he's not in the building on Thursday. Kalif Raymond and rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown saw the most work alongside Williams in the season opener. Quintez Cephus would likely start in three-receiver sets if Williams is unable to get cleared by Monday. The Lions figure to be in comeback mode against the Packers on the road, but it will still be hard to trust any of their receivers as more than deep-league sleeper options in a flex spot. Tight end T.J. Hockenson will likely remain the team's top receiving threat throughout the season.

Tyrell Williams Not At Practice Wednesday

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tyrell Williams (head) was not seen during the 20 minutes of practice open to the media on Wednesday. Williams took a helmet-to-helmet shot from San Francisco 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt in the Week 1 loss, and he has since been put in the league's concussion protocol. It's bad news for a team with one of the thinnest receiving corps in the league after losing Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr., Danny Amendola, Marvin Hall, Jamal Agnew and Mohamed Sanu in the offseason. If Williams cannot play on Monday night against the Green Bay Packers, the Lions will likely replace him with some combination of Quintez Cephus and Trinity Benson. Kalif Raymond and rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown would be starters in three-wide sets. Detroit will likely be forced to throw the ball often, but Raymond and St. Brown would be merely dart throws in DFS and deeper leagues. Tight end T.J. Hockenson should continue to eat.

Tyrell Williams Is In Concussion Protocol

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced that wide receiver Tyrell Williams (concussion) is in the concussion protocol. In the third quarter of Week 1, Williams got hit in the head by 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt and was removed from the game. Prior to being taken out, Williams caught two of his three targets for 14 yards. The Lions have one of the weakest receiving corps in the league, but Williams is expected to be the No. 1 option this season. If Williams misses Week 2, Kalif Raymond, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Quintez Cephus could all see an uptick in snaps. St. Brown and Cephus offer the most intrigue, but the Lions No. 1 and No. 2 options on the offense remain tight end T.J. Hockenson and running back D'Andre Swift. It's best to avoid any wide receiver on the Lions at the moment and more should be known on the status of Williams as the week goes on.

Tyrell Williams Hopes To Lead Charge In Week 1

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tyrell Williams will try and establish himself as the WR1 in the Lions offense Week 1 against the 49ers. Williams has had a solid, if uneventful, training camp and will be entrusted to make plays in the passing game right off the bat. He will go up against a 49ers defense that allowed the 15th fewest fantasy points to opposing receivers last season. Obviously, it's a new year but the 49ers struggled covering tall, physical and fast receivers last season. Pass-catchers like D.K. Metcalf and Devante Adams punished the 49ers secondary last season and San Francisco allowed 18 total touchdowns to receivers last season. Williams is not on the talent level of the former players mentioned but the Lions best chance at winning in Week 1 may be based on the success of Williams and tight end T.J. Hockenson. Williams will have WR5 with a low floor heading into Week 1.

Tyrell Williams Battling Through Groin Injury

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tyrell Williams is battling a groin injury but head coach Dan Campbell believes he will practice in full next week. Williams is set to head into Week 1 as the team's unquestioned WR1 on a team that is very thin at wide receiver. Williams has battled injuries his whole career and missed all of last season with a shoulder injury. The 29-year-old posted 42 receptions for 651 yards with six touchdowns for the Raiders in 2019 and will have plenty of opportunity to eclipse those numbers this season. Williams is by no means an ideal WR1 but should benefit from a high volume of targets early on.
