Free-agent wide receiver Vincent Jackson is "very happily retired," according to one of his representatives. He will finish his career with 9,080 receiving yards and 57 touchdowns with the Chargers and Buccaneers. V-Jax finished with just 15 catches for 173 yards and no touchdowns in five games in 2016 with Tampa, but he posted six 1,000-yard seasons in his career, with three of them coming in San Diego and three with the Bucs.
Vincent Jackson Looks to Rebound After Injury Riddled Season
Vincent Jackson didn't reach 1,000 yards receiving last season for only the second time in the past eight seasons. The similarity between those seasons? Injuries. V-Jax plays a big role in this Buccaneers offense, and will look to get back on track this season. Jackson gives budding star wide receiver Mike Evans some protection, on outside routes and in the endzone. Both receivers are 6'5", giving opponents nightmares when the Bucs reach the red zone. In 2014, Bucs' quarterbacks targeted Evans 13 times in the redzone. He caught eight of those passes, six for scores. Compare that to 2015, when Evans was targeted 14 times, but only caught two passes, both for touchdowns. The difference? Vincent Jackson's monstrous presence on the opposite side. When he is on the field, the offense as a whole becomes better.
