The Cleveland Browns announced on Friday that they signed free-agent offensive guard Wyatt Davis (ankle) and waived defensive tackle Jayden Peevy in a corresponding move. Davis is apparently healthy this offseason after spending all of last year on Injured Reserve with the New York Giants due to an ankle injury. The 25-year-old former third-round pick (86th overall) by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2021 draft out of Ohio State played in six games in his rookie season in Minnesota and then played in three games with the Giants, Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints in 2022. As long as Davis remains healthy for training camp and the preseason this summer, he'll compete for a depth role on Cleveland's offensive line.
The New Orleans Saints signed offensive guard Wyatt Davis off the New York Giants practice squad to their active roster on Thursday. The former Minnesota Vikings third-round pick will now serve as offensive line depth in New Orleans heading into the team's Week 1 regular season matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The 23-year-old from Ohio State played in just six games (no starts) for the Vikings in his rookie season last year.
Wyatt Davis Becomes Yet Another Vikings Third-Rounder
The Minnesota Vikings selected Ohio State offensive lineman Wyatt Davis with the No. 86 overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft on Friday night. Davis is a balanced interior blocker. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder wasn't as good last year as he was in 2019, but his athleticism should serve him well in the NFL and he fits the Vikings scheme well. If not for recurring knee issues in college, he likely wouldn't come off the draft board in the second round as a strong run blocker. Davis is ferocious at the point of attack and should profile as an immediate starter. It's very good news for running back Dalvin Cook in Minnesota.
