Laurent Brossoit Recovering From Knee Surgery

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit will miss the start of training camp after undergoing surgery on his right knee. The 31-year-old veteran is expected to be game-ready in five to seven weeks. The Blackhawks kick off their 2024-25 campaign against Utah on Oct. 8. Following a second spell with the Winnipeg Jets, Brossoit joined the Blackhawks on a two-year deal in free agency this summer. He'll be sharing the net with Petr Mrazek. Brossoit had an impressive 15-5-2 record with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage last season. He benefited from playing behind a strong team, and the 2023 Stanley Cup winner is set to face a much tougher time in Chicago.

Taylor Hall Aims To Be "Solid Contributor" For Blackhawks

Chicago Blackhawks left wing Taylor Hall (knee) is looking to produce a strong bounce-back year following an injury-hit 2023-24 campaign. "I'm really confident I'll be a solid contributor for the Blackhawks this year," Hall told Ben Pope of The Chicago Sun-Times. "What makes me say that is the hockey I've played and the preparation I've done this summer. ... I know I can be a difference-maker for our team." The former MVP was limited to only 10 appearances in his debut season with the Blackhawks. He suffered a shoulder injury in only the second game of the season and an ACL injury in November, which ended his campaign. Hall's fantasy stock has plummeted in recent years, but he aims to become a 30-goal scorer again and should be motivated by the fact that it's a contract year for him.

Tyler Bertuzzi, Teuvo Teravainen Expected To Fill First-Line Roles In Chicago

Chicago Blackhawks wingers Tyler Bertuzzi and Teuvo Teravainen are expected to fill first-line roles when the new NHL season begins. The two were big free-agency signings for the Blackhawks and will be relied on heavily in 2024-25. If they can stick on the line, both players will benefit from the presence of Connor Bedard. Having more talent around him should also improve the productivity of Chicago's 19-year-old phenom, who skated with a lot of different teammates during his rookie campaign and struggled offensively at times.

Alex Vlasic Inks Six-Year Extension With Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks and defenseman Alex Vlasic have agreed to a six-year contract extension that carries an average annual value of $4.6 million. The 22-year-old was a bright spot for a young and scuffling Blackhawks team despite not contributing much at the offense end of the ice. The 6-foot-6 blueliner notched two goals and 16 points in 76 games on the season but also blocked 148 shots and was only a minus-four on a Blackhawks team that gave up 111 more goals than they scored. A 2019 second-round pick, Vlasic played three seasons with Boston University before making his NHL debut in the 2021-22 season.

Nick Foligno Out On Wednesday

Chicago Blackhawks forward Nick Foligno will miss Wednesday's contest against the St. Louis Blues due to personal reasons. He will, however, rejoin the lineup for Friday's contest against the Nashville Predators. The 36-year-old has had a nice impact in his first season in Chicago, tallying 17 goals and 37 points across 70 games, his best offensive production since the 2016-17 season while with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was not only rewarded with a two-year, $9 million contract extension but he was also named the team's captain while providing leadership for young phenom Connor Bedard. The Blackhawks sit 31st in the NHL standings with 51 points on the campaign.

Petr Mrazek Between The Pipes Wednesday

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek will be between the pipes when he hits the road to take on the St. Louis Blues. It's his sixth start over the last eight games as he will take over from youngster Arvid Soderblom who dropped a 4-0 decision in the team's last game against the Minnesota Wild. It's been a respectable season for Mrazek considering the weak team he plays behind as he sports a 3.01 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage across 53 outings (50 starts), going 18-28-4 in that time. His 7.13 goals saved above average rank 21st of 71 qualified netminders, according to Hockey Reference. The club has a decent shot at landing the No. 1 overall pick for the second straight year as they sit second-last in the NHL with 51 points with five games to go.

Arvid Soderblom Back In Goal Friday

Chicago Blackhawks netminder Arvid Soderblom will be back between the pipes for a home game against the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night. The 24-year-old has been alternating starts with veteran Petr Mrazek and that pattern continues on Friday. Soderblom enters this one sporting a tough 3.88 goals-against average and an .879 save percentage across 25 outings (23 starts) on the season, going a disastrous 4-18-1 in that time. Furthermore, his -18.16 goals saved above average is the worst mark in the league among 68 qualified netminders, according to Hockey Reference. The Blackhawks sit second-last in the NHL with an 18-43-5 record while the Kings could move two points ahead of the Golden Knights for third place in the Pacific Division with a victory.

Connor Bedard Racks Up Five Points Against Ducks

Chicago Blackhawks center Connor Bedard put his talents on full display against the Ducks on Tuesday, becoming the fifth 18-year-old in NHL history with a five-point game. He finished a 7-2 victory with one goal and four assists. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ilya Kovalchuk were previously the only 18-year-olds with at least four assists in a game. The Blackhawks offense has suddenly exploded for 20 goals across the last four games, and Bedard has had a hand in half of the markers. The 10-point scoring spurt has pushed him to 51 points (20 goals, 31 assists) for the season with 52 games played.

Petr Mrazek Takes On Red Wings Sunday

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek will face the Detroit Red Wings in his 39th start of the season on Sunday. The veteran netminder will look to improve a 13-22-3 record, entering the matchup with a 2.99 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. It's been a challenging campaign for Mrazek, and recent times have been especially rough for him, as the former Red Wing has lost eight of his last nine starts. With the Red Wings on a hot streak of four consecutive wins, things likely won't end well for Mrazek on Sunday, either.

Arvid Soderblom Faces Flyers On Wednesday

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Arvid Soderblom will step into the crease for Wednesday's matchup against Philadelphia. The Swedish netminder will make only his second start of the month. Soderblom is currently in the midst of a horrible 11-game losing streak. He's managed to win just two decisions all season, going 2-16-1 with a 4.01 goals-against average and a .875 save percentage. It's been a nightmare of a season for Soderblom, and things likely won't improve on Wednesday either, with the Flyers considered massive favorites for the contest.

Connor Bedard Posts New Franchise Record With Three-Point Effort

Chicago Blackhawks center Connor Bedard notched three points via a goal and two assists in Monday's 6-3 loss to Carolina. With the effort, he broke a tie with Eddie Olczyk (7) for the most multi-point games by an 18-year-old in franchise history. Additionally, Bedard joined Patrick Kane as the second 18-year-old in Blackhawks history to record multiple three-point games. The rookie phenom has needed no time to find his feet following a six-week injury layoff, producing two goals and four assists in three games since returning to the lineup. Despite missing 14 games, Bedard continues to lead all first-year players in scoring, with 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) amassed in 42 outings.

Connor Bedard Picks Up Two Points In Victory

Chicago Blackhawks center Connor Bedard finished with a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-2 victory against the Senators. Bedard supplied an assist on forward Nick Foligno's first period goal, while the rookie scored an even-strength goal in the second period to tie the contest at two. Bedard has recorded a goal and two assists since returning to the lineup, and the 18-year-old has season totals of 16 goals and 36 points through 41 games.

Connor Bedard Could Return On Thursday

Chicago Blackhawks center Connor Bedard (jaw) could make his return to the lineup against the Penguins on Thursday night. Bedard has been sidelined since Jan. 5 when the rookie forward suffered a fractured jaw as a result of a hit in a contest against the Devils. Bedard underwent surgery and has approached the six-week mark of his recovery, while he was originally given a six-to-eight week timeline for his recovery. The 18-year-old should be rostered across all formats as he has totaled 15 goals and 33 points through 39 games in his first NHL season.

Blackhawks Place Jarred Tinordi On Injured Reserve

The Chicago Blackhawks have placed defenseman Jarred Tinordi on injured reserve due to a groin strain. The blueliner logged just 11:56 in a loss to the Wild on Feb. 7 and sat out an overtime loss versus the Rangers two nights later. The 31-year-old has six assists in 30 games this season along with a minus-19 rating. He brings plenty of physicality to the table, however, with 100 hits, 62 blocks, and 40 penalty minutes as part of his 15:44 average ice time per game. A former first-round pick, Tinordi has played sparingly in parts of nine NHL seasons, skating in 183 regular-season games with four goals and 27 points along with 210 penalty minutes in that time.

Petr Mrazek Likely Starting Wednesday Versus Wild

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek is the likely starter for Wednesday night's contest against the visiting Minnesota Wild. The veteran worked in the starter's crease in Wednesday's morning skate, indicating he will indeed get the starting nod. Recently rewarded with a two-year contract extension, Mrazke has enjoyed a bounce-back season that has seen him post a 2.92 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage across 34 games on a 32-ranked Blackhawks team. For context, his 6.41 goals saved above average ranks 15th of 69 qualified netminders. The injury-plagued Blackhawks are just 14-34-2 on the season and are currently in line to boast the first overall draft pick for the second straight season.

Tyler Johnson Expected To Play Wednesday

Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson (foot) practiced with the team on Monday and is expected to return to action when the club plays host to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday. The veteran has been out since suffering a foot injury on Dec. 31 against the Dallas Stars in his team's rough 8-1 defeat. "Unless something comes up tomorrow that he's sore, but he said after that he felt good, so he's ready to go," Blackhawks bench boss Luke Richardson said. It has been an unspectacular offensive season on a subpar Blackhawks offense for Johnson, who has recorded nine goals and 13 points across 35 games. The oft-injured forward hasn't had much support with Connor Bedard also missing significant time for the rebuilding Blackhawks.

Petr Mrazek Inks Two-Year Extension With Blackhawks

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek has signed a two-year, $8.5 million extension with the club that carries an average annual value of $4.25 million. The veteran has been solid for a poor Blackhawks team this season, turning in a .907 save percentage across 32 games (30 outings), matching his career .907 Sv% across 366 regular-season games. Additionally, Mrazek's 3.62 goals saved above average ranks 23rd of 67 qualified goaltenders, as per Hockey Reference. It's a nice bounce-back season for the 31-year-old who posted a 3.66 goals-against average and .894 Sv% in his first season with the Blackhawks last season. He will continue to mentor young netminder Arvid Soderblom for the next couple of seasons.

Nick Foligno Returns To Blackhawks Lineup

Chicago Blackhawks left wing Nick Foligno (finger) will be back in action on Monday against Vancouver. The veteran has been absent for seven games after breaking his left ring finger in a fight. Foligno adds a lot of muscle to the Blackhawks lineup, but he'll be expected to deliver offense as well on Monday, as the 36-year-old will be thrust into a first-line role. Foligno, who recently signed a two-year, $9 million extension with Chicago, has posted eight goals and nine assists in 39 games this season. The Blackhawks attack will also get Ryan Donato (illness) back from a two-game absence.

Seth Jones Scores First Goal Of Season In Overtime Friday

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones scored his first goal of the season in overtime on Friday as the Blackhawks defeated the visiting New York Islanders by a 4-3 score. The veteran rearguard beat Islanders netminder Ilya Sorokin from the high slot with plenty of traffic aiding his wrister past the Russian netminder. Jones has endured a down season offensively, like many Blackhawks skaters, as he now has just 13 points in 31 games along with 72 shots on goal and a minus-eight rating in that time. He managed 12 goals and 37 points across 72 games last season but has once again been hit with the injury bug this time around. He is still logging 25:27 of ice time per game, good for fourth-most in the NHL.

Nikita Zaitsev Injured On Tuesday

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nikita Zaitsev couldn't fully enjoy Tuesday's 2-1 shootout win over the Sharks as he was knocked out from the game with an undisclosed injury. The Russian rearguard logged less than nine minutes of ice time in the contest. Chicago returns to action Wednesday versus Buffalo, and Zaitsev should be considered questionable for the game. The Blackhawks would mostly miss Zaitsev's physical presence, as he has registered 39 hits and 52 blocks in 26 appearances this season. Offensively, Zaitsev has helped out with two goals and five assists.
