Jake Bean To Be Out "For A While"

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jake Bean (undisclosed) could be out for the rest of the season after getting hurt in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Islanders. Bean exited the contest near the end of the game after blocking a shot. Blue Jackets head coach Pascal Vincent said postgame that the 25-year-old blue-liner would be out "for a while." Columbus finishes the campaign on April 16, giving Bean very little time to recover. The former AHL All-Star has made 72 appearances in 2023-24, posting 13 points (four goals, nine assists) with 110 blocks. Jake Christiansen is expected to be called up from the minors to take Bean's spot in the lineup.

Jake Bean Expected To Be In Action Wednesday

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jake Bean (groin) is set to make his preseason debut on Wednesday versus Buffalo. The 25-year-old has so far been unavailable due to an abductor strain. Bean has seen some success with the Blue Jackets, but a shoulder issue limited him to only 14 appearances last season. He contributed a goal and five assists. Bean is looking at bottom-pairing minutes in 2023-23, with Columbus having bolstered its blue line with Ivan Provorov and Damon Severson.

Jake Bean Doubtful For Start Of Season

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jake Bean (groin) is battling an injury, and the team considers him as week-to-week. The Blue Jackets revealed a number of injuries ahead of training camp, and Bean's problem is slated to be the most serious one. According to The Athletic's Aaron Portzline, the 25-year-old suffered an abductor strain in a workout. It's another blow for Bean, who has been troubled by various health issues throughout his NHL career. He was forced to undergo shoulder surgery last season and played only 14 games. With Bean being listed as week-to-week, it's unclear if he can recover in time for Columbus' season opener, which comes on Oct. 12 versus Philadelphia.

Jake Bean Out Indefinitely With Shoulder Injury

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jake Bean (shoulder) has been placed on Injured Reserve and will be out indefinitely. The Blue Jackets are cursed with injuries and Bean is the latest player to go down, having hurt his shoulder in Tuesday's win over Philadelphia. Bean has been able to register one goal and five assists in 14 appearances this season. With Zach Werenski (shoulder) also out, Marcus Bjork is now set to quarterback the first power-play unit. The 24-year-old has only recently made his NHL debut, but he's hit the ground running, posting a goal and an assist through his first two career appearances.

Jake Bean Suffers An Upper-Body Injury

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jake Bean suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime victory against the Flyers. He got hurt in the second period, logging only 8:55 in the game. With a number of other injuries hitting Columbus' blue line, Bean had started to play a massive role lately, which included minutes on the first power-play unit. If Bean is now forced to miss significant time, Vladislav Gavrikov, who had a goal and an assist Tuesday, receives a further boost, and Marcus Bjork is looking like an interesting option as well. The 24-year-old rookie has started his career with points in both of his first two appearances, and he appears set for a promotion from the second power-play unit to the first if Bean is unavailable.

Jake Bean Sits On Friday

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jake Bean (illness) will sit out Friday's battle with the Bruins. He has missed a pair of practices with an illness and hasn't managed to recover in time for the game. Bean had just enjoyed a bit of an offensive explosion with three points in two games. He boasts one goal and three assists for the season with nine blocks and eight hits in eight games. The Blue Jackets also lost Adam Boqvist (foot) from the backline this week, so they could be very vulnerable defensively on Friday. Gavin Bayreuther and 18-year-old David Jiricek will be drafted into the lineup for the game.

Jake Bean Returns To Action Against Toronto

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jake Bean (groin) will rejoin the lineup for Monday's home game against Toronto. This will be his first appearance since Jan. 30. Bean has posted 15 points in 41 outings this season, and he also hasn't been afraid to put his body on the line, tallying 54 blocks. He'll line up with Gabriel Carlsson on the third defensive pairing, replacing Gavin Bayreuther. This is a matchup against a team that has registered a league-worst .876 save percentage since Jan. 9, so Bean returns in a good spot from an offensive standpoint.
