Pavel Francouz Ruled Out For Rest Of Season

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz (lower body) will sit out the entire 2023-24 campaign, the team announced on Sunday. The 33-year-old was shelved at the start of the season with a lower-body injury, and he will be with his family back home in the Czech Republic for the rest of the year. Francouz is in the final year of his contract, and we may have seen the last of him in the NHL. Throughout his career, Francouz has been a very valuable backup, posting a 44-21-6 record. He joined the Avalanche from the KHL in 2018 and helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2022.

Pavel Francouz Ruled Out For Start Of Season

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz (groin) has been officially ruled out for the start of the season. The Czech netminder underwent adductor surgery in the offseason and still needs time to heal. Francouz had a solid year behind Alexandar Georgiev last season, finishing 8-7-1 in 16 appearances and having a 2.61 goals-against average with a .915 save percentage and one shutout. With Francouz out, Justus Annunen is set to fill backup duties early in the season. The 23-year-old has played in four NHL games, going 2-1-1 and posting a 3.92 goals-against average with a .859 save percentage.

Pavel Francouz May Miss Start Of Season

Colorado Avalanche goalie Pavel Francouz is likely to miss the beginning of the 2023-24 season after having off-season adductor surgery. Francouz seemed set to start the season as Alexander Georgiev's backup on a contending Avalanche squad, but that is now in question. The 33-year-old's career has been decimated by injuries, as he's only managed to suit up for 73 games across four seasons. When he plays, he has been good, as shown by his .919 SV% and 2.49 GAA (25.0 GSAA) across those four seasons. He will make for a good streaming option in fantasy leagues whenever he is confirmed to start for the Avs.

Pavel Francouz Returns To Action Sunday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz (lower body) will make his first appearance in two months Sunday against Anaheim. Alexandar Georgiev has gotten a lot of burn with Francouz out and matched a franchise record with a seventh straight road win Saturday versus Los Angeles. Over the course of the season, Francouz has had only 15 outings, going 7-7-1 with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. One of his last appearances was a 5-3 loss to the Ducks, but Francouz has a good chance to make a winning return, with this being a matchup against a team that averages the second-fewest goals in the league (2.49).

Pavel Francouz Out For Three Weeks

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz (lower body) has been ruled out for three weeks. He was already missed a few games while dealing with a lower-body injury and it's now clear that Francouz won't be available until March. The 32-year-old has posted a 7-7-0 record this season as Alexandar Georgiev's backup, allowing 2.53 goals per game with a .919 save percentage and one shutout. Jonas Johansson has been the No. 2 behind Georgiev in Francouz's absence, but he's now back in the AHL and Justus Annunen has been called up to provide cover.

Pavel Francouz In Avalanche Net Tuesday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz will be guarding the crease in Tuesday's road outing against the Penguins. He has been sharing starts with Alexandar Georgiev lately and gets the nod for the 15th time this season. The 32-year-old had a pretty bad start to the campaign, but he's been rolling in recent weeks with three wins from four starts, which have pushed Francouz's record to 7-7-0. He has given up 2.58 goals per game with a .917 save percentage and one shutout. The Penguins are a tough opponent, but they are without Tristan Jarry (upper body) and his absence improves Francouz's chances of success Tuesday.

Pavel Francouz Grabs His First Shutout

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz posted his first shutout of the season in Saturday's matchup against Ottawa, stopping 29 pucks in a 7-0 victory. Artturi Lehkonen and Alex Newhook carried the offense, with both players enjoying three-point nights. This was only the second appearance for Francouz after he was sidelined by a lower-body injury for multiple weeks. He now owns a 5-6-0 record for the season and has registered a 2.57 goals-against average with a .919 save percentage. Francouz might have a losing record but has put in solid work, and it looks like the team is planning to ride him for a bit, with this being his second consecutive start and Alexandar Georgiev having struggled with a poor 1-5-1 run.

Pavel Francouz Set For Another Start In Game 3

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz will likely make another start against Edmonton in the Western Conference Finals on Saturday. He had a wonderful game on Thursday while filling in for Darcy Kuemper (upper body), picking up a 24-save shutout and improving to 4-0 for this postseason. Kuemper has traveled with the team but missed the morning skate and it looks like he still needs more time to recover after getting injured in Game 1. The 32-year-old remains Colorado's undisputed No. 1, but Francouz has performed superbly in his absence and the Avalanche actually haven't missed Kuemper at all.

Pavel Francouz Leads Colorado To Game 2 Victory

Colorado Avalanche goalie Pavel Francouz stepped in perfectly for injured Darcy Kuemper, recording a 4-0 shutout in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. His team played brilliantly in front of him, and he wasn't too shabby, fending off 24 Oilers shots. He has two career playoff shutouts and four wins in this year's playoffs. Pavel Francouz will get the nod in Game 3 should Kuemper not be available again for the Avalanche.

Pavel Francouz To Start Game 2

Colorado Avalanche netminder Pavel Francouz will mind the crease Thursday in place of Darcy Kuemper, who suffered an injury in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. Kuemper had to leave the contest in the second period with an upper-body injury. In relief, Francouz made 18 saves on 21 shots on goal. In his playoff career, the 31-year-old netminder is 3-0 with a .889 save percentage and a 3.59 goals-against-average. He will need to be on top of his game, facing the high-flying Oilers, who scored six goals in Game 1.

Pavel Francouz Makes Season Debut For Colorado Thursday

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz makes his season debut on Thursday night versus the Nashville Predators. He will be up against Juuse Saros. Francouz has not played since 2020 after suffering a catastrophic ankle injury during that season. He basically did a rehab assignment in the AHL. In 2019-20, Francouz went 21-7-4 for the Avalanche with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. Facing live NHL action for the first time in almost two seasons will be an excellent litmus test for the 31-year old Czech goaltender. He may even get a few games with Darcy Kuemper in COVID-19 protocol.

Pavel Francouz To Miss 3-4 Weeks With Injury

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz will be out for 3-4 weeks after sustaining a lower-body injury in a preseason game versus the Vegas Golden Knights earlier in the week. This news comes as a tough blow for Francouz, who missed the entire 2020-2021 campaign due to injury. The 31-year-old is expected to back up newly acquired netminder Darcy Kuemper this season. In 34 games with the Avs in 2019-2020, Francouz posted a 21-7-4 record to go along with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. Francouz is currently 15% owned on Yahoo! platforms and could be an intriguing injury stash.
