Cale Makar Wins His Second Norris Trophy

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar has won his second James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman. Makar, who claimed his first Norris Trophy in 2021-22, received 176 of the 191 first-place votes and 1,861 voting points, finishing ahead of Zach Werenski of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks. It was yet another impressive campaign for Makar, who led all defensemen in goals (30), assists (62), and points (92). He has averaged at least a point per game for five consecutive seasons, making him a unique player among rearguards.

Logan O'Connor to Miss 5-6 Months Following Hip Procedure

Colorado Avalanche forward Logan O'Connor is expected to be out for 5-6 months after undergoing hip surgery on Friday. The 28-year-old missed only two games in 2024-25, but Colorado will have to cope without him for quite some time next season, with O'Connor potentially out until December. O'Connor, who also had hip surgery last year, impressed during the playoffs with six points (two goals, four assists) in seven games. During the regular season, he had his fourth consecutive 20-point campaign. In 80 appearances, O'Connor tallied 10 goals and 11 assists. Next season will mark the start of a six-year, $15 million contract for O'Connor, who has tallied 103 points (45 goals, 58 assists) in 343 career games with the Avalanche.

Brock Nelson Staying with Avalanche for Three Years

Colorado Avalanche center Brock Nelson signed a three-year, $22.5 million extension on Wednesday. The 33-year-old, who arrived from the New York Islanders in a mid-season trade, was a pending unrestricted free agent. Nelson made 19 appearances with the Avalanche during the regular season, posting 13 points (six goals, seven assists). He went quiet in the playoffs, finishing goalless with four assists in seven games, but the Avalanche have locked up a proven scorer. Nelson just missed his fourth consecutive 30-goal campaign this season, netting 26 times with 193 shots on goal, and he has bagged at least 50 points in six of the past seven years.

Ross Colton To Remain Out For Game 7

Colorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton (lower body) skated on Saturday morning but will not join the lineup for Game 7 against the Dallas Stars. Colton wore a red non-contact jersey during the morning skate. The 28-year-old missed the final four regular-season games and has not played against the Stars since the series opener. Colton averaged close to 0.5 points per game during the regular season, finishing with 16 goals and 13 assists in 61 games. If Colorado wins on Saturday and advances to the second round, Colton will be in contention for a third-line spot when he is ready to return.

Mackenzie Blackwood Seeks To Overcome Road Struggles In Game 7

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood will start Saturday's Game 7 against the Dallas Stars, needing to deliver a road win for the team to extend its season. Blackwood opened the first-round series with a 5-1 win in Dallas, but he has since struggled on the road, allowing nine goals over two games. Dating back to the regular season, Blackwood has celebrated victory in only two of his last 10 road starts. It's a tough task to take down the Stars in Texas, but the Avalanche will carry some momentum following their Game 6 victory. Blackwood, who stopped 22 of 24 shots in Thursday's 7-4 win, has allowed 2.65 goals in the series with a .899 save percentage.

Cale Makar Enjoys Three-Point Night Thursday

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar finished Thursday's 7-4 win in Game 6 against the Dallas Stars with a goal and two assists. Makar set up Artturi Lehkonen and Martin Necas for a pair of goals before potting the game's final tally in an empty-net situation. Entering Thursday's action, Dallas had nullified Makar offensively in three consecutive games. The star blue-liner has had a tough time in the series, but all will be forgotten if he can put together another big performance in Saturday's Game 7. Makar has registered five points (one goal, four assists), 25 shots, eight blocks, and eight hits in six playoff games this year.

Nathan MacKinnon Collects Three Points In Crucial Win

Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon recorded three points as the team staved off elimination with a 7-4 victory against the Dallas Stars on Thursday night. Colorado's star forward was quiet for most of the night but sparked into life late in the game. He collected all his points inside the final 11 minutes of play, recording a goal and two assists. MacKinnon was credited with a Stars own goal at the 9:02 mark in the third period, which ended up being the game-winning tally. He then picked up his helpers with the Dallas net empty. This tied MacKinnon for the franchise record for most points in a playoff period. While MacKinnon was held in check by the Stars for most of Game 6, he has enjoyed a good series, picking up 10 points (six goals, four assists) in six games.

Nathan MacKinnon Has Two Points In Losing Effort

Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon posted a goal and an assist in Monday's Game 5 against the Dallas Stars but was unable to save his squad from a 6-2 loss. Colorado found itself in a three-goal hole in the second period before goals from MacKinnon and Arturri Lehkonen brought the team back into the game. However, there was no further offense from the Avalanche, who will face elimination in Wednesday's Game 6 after falling behind 3-2 in the series. Things have been difficult for Jared Bednar's men in the matchup, but MacKinnon has continued to deliver the goods. With five games played, he leads all skaters in the postseason with five goals and has recorded two assists with 31 shots on goal.

Martin Necas Records Two Assists In Game 5 Loss

Colorado Avalanche forward Martin Necas collected assists on both of the team's goals during Monday's 6-2 defeat to the Dallas Stars. The Stars jumped to a 3-0 lead, and while Necas' playmaking abilities helped Colorado narrow it to a one-goal game, Jared Bednar's team was no match for the hosts on Monday night. The Avalanche are averaging three goals per game in the series, but Necas has been a disappointment so far this postseason. He has not scored with six shots on net and has three assists through five games. An improvement from the Czech forward must be imminent, as Colorado will face elimination on Wednesday night in Game 6.

Ross Colton Remains Out On Monday

Colorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton (lower body) will not play in Game 5 against the Dallas Stars on Monday night. This will mark Colton's fourth consecutive absence after he sustained a lower-body injury in the series opener. Luckily for the Avalanche, they have Gabriel Landeskog back in the lineup. He is set to continue in a second-line role and on the top power-play unit in Monday's game. Landeskog has registered two points (one goal, one assist) and eight hits in two games since joining the fun in Game 3.

Gabriel Landeskog Scores First Goal In Nearly Three Years

Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog was among the goal-scorers in Saturday's 4-0 victory over the Dallas Stars, lighting the lamp for the first time since Game 3 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals. He netted a one-timer off an assist from Brock Nelson in the second period to put Colorado ahead 3-0 for the night. Landeskog went on to collect an assist in the third period when Samuel Girard scored the final goal of the game. He registered three shots and two hits to complement his two points over 14:37 of action. Landeskog's return from a nearly three-year absence is an incredible story, and he has quickly proven that he can still be an impactful two-way player with two points and eight hits across two games.

Ross Colton Unavailable Saturday

Colorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton (lower body) will remain out of the lineup on Saturday against the Dallas Stars. The 28-year-old suffered a lower-body injury in the series opener and will miss a third consecutive game. Initially, the team replaced Colton with Miles Wood in the lineup, but Gabriel Landeskog has since entered the frame. The Avalanche captain ended a 1,032-day absence in Game 3 and will remain in the lineup on Saturday, moving up to the second line. Jonathan Drouin, who has registered two power-play assists in the series, will drop to the third line.

Gabriel Landeskog Likely To Play In Game 3

Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog (knee) appears ready to make his comeback in Game 3 against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night. Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said on Wednesday morning that there is a "good chance" Landeskog will play in the contest. The Avalanche captain, who has been out of action since the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals, was activated from Long-Term Injured Reserve ahead of Monday's Game 2. He skated in pregame warmups but did not play. Landeskog is projected to skate on the third line, replacing Miles Wood in the lineup.

Ross Colton Uncertain For Game 2

Colorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton (lower body) is questionable for Monday's Game 2 against the Dallas Stars. He logged only 7:04 of ice time in Saturday's Game 1, missing most of the third period due to a lower-body injury. Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar told reporters Monday morning that Colton is feeling "not great." He didn't rule him out for the contest, but also wouldn't confirm whether Colton would be ready to play. Colton's spot in the lineup could be filled by Gabriel Landeskog (knee), who was activated from Long-Term Injured Reserve on Monday. Miles Wood and Jimmy Vesey are also options to replace Colton.

Gabriel Landeskog Activated From Injured Reserve

Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog (knee) was activated from Long-Term Injured Reserve on Monday, making him eligible to join the lineup for Game 2 against the Dallas Stars. The Avalanche captain is poised to make his first NHL appearance since Game 6 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals. He could serve as a replacement for Ross Colton (lower body), who was injured in Saturday's series opener. Landeskog will likely have some rust, but he was a point-per-game player before running into health issues, and his inclusion in the lineup will, at the very least, provide a morale boost for Colorado.

Nathan MacKinnon Leads Avalanche To Game 1 Victory

Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon kicked off the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a standout performance, recording three points in a 5-1 road victory against the Dallas Stars. The 2024 MVP scored twice on six shots and delivered one assist. MacKinnon became the ninth-fastest player in Stanley Cup Playoffs history to score 50 career goals. Playing in his 89th career postseason game, he netted a power-play goal late in the second period and scored an empty-netter in the final minutes. There should be plenty more to come in the series from MacKinnon, who averages the sixth-most points per game in NHL postseason history.

Jonathan Drouin Available For Game 1

Colorado Avalanche winger Jonathan Drouin (lower body) will be available for Saturday's Game 1 against the Dallas Stars. Drouin is set to join Brock Nelson and Valeri Nichushkin on the second line for Saturday's game and is likely to be utilized on the first power-play unit.
