Waiver Wire Pickups Week 10
The time is now. The fantasy football post-season is quickly approaching. Week 10 is also the default setting in many fantasy leagues for a trade deadline, meaning it’s now or never. If you have a record that is 4-5 or worse, you need to be more aggressive in Waiver Wire bidding and think about making a trade that will give you a shot at coming back. The following are my week 10 waiver wire pickup recommendations.
Quarterback Waiver Wire Suggestion
Drake Maye, New England Patriots
If you do not believe in Drake Maye as a fantasy quarterback, now may be the time to start. What many people did not expect to see from Maye is an elite rushing ability. On Sunday, Maye rushed eight times for 95 yards. While Maye continues to develop as a passer, he gives fantasy owners a decent floor with his legs. Maye is coming off a 15.7-point fantasy game in Week 9 and has shown off all the skills that made him a first-round pick in the NFL draft. Maye is worth owning in all 12+ 1QB leagues and should be considered a low-end starter in 2QB leagues. He should go for around 10% FAAB in 1QB leagues and up to 25% if still available in Superflex leagues.
Running Back Waiver Wire Suggestion
Ray Davis, Buffalo Bills
It is hard to get too excited about Davis because he only played nine snaps on Sunday, but good things happen whenever he touches the ball. Davis had four carries for 20 yards, along with two catches for 70 yards and one touchdown. As long as Davis keeps producing, the Bills will find ways to get him on the field. While he should not be played in most fantasy leagues, he is worth stashing in all 12+ team leagues. The rookie is worth around 5-8% FAAB.
Isaac Guerendo, San Francisco 49ers
It remains to be seen if Christian McCaffrey will return to the field in Week 10. But, if he does not, Guerendo is someone to target. Jordan Mason has been banged up recently, and that could open the door for Guerendo to have a big game. The last time we saw the 49ers was in Week 8 when Guerendo rushed 14 times for 85 yards and one touchdown. He also caught three passes for 17 yards. Guerendo is nothing more than a flier right now as we await to see the status of McCaffrey and Mason. But he is worth stashing because his upside is tremendous. He should only go for around 5% FAAB.
Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Suggestion
Jerry Jeudy, Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns’ offense has improved since Jameis Winston took over. Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is one of the many players who has benefited from that. Also, the trade of Amari Cooper has given Jeudy more opportunities. On Sunday, he caught seven passes on 11 targets for 73 yards. He has back-to-back games with at least five catches and 70 yards with Winston. Jeudy looks like a player who can return flex value over the rest of the season. If he is available in your league, spend up to 15% FAAB.
Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers opened up their offense on Sunday, allowing quarterback Justin Herbert to throw 28 times. That allowed wide receiver Quentin Johnston to have his season’s best performance. He caught four passes on five targets for 118 yards and one touchdown. It was his first action since Week 6, and he stepped into a prominent role, playing 39 snaps. If the Chargers commit to throwing the ball more, Johnston could become a solid flex option. He is worth around 10% FAAB.
Xavier Legette, Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers may not be a good offense, but they have a few solid players for fantasy football. One who is starting to come into his own is rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette. On Sunday, Legette caught four passes on six targets for 33 yards and one touchdown. He has now recorded touchdowns in back-to-back games, including three of his last four. The Panthers’ offense will likely continue to struggle, but Legette could be a bright spot and is worth a pickup. The rookie should go for around 8-10% FAAB this week.
Tight End Waiver Wire Suggestion
Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals
The tight end continues to be an issue in fantasy football. The position is full of inconsistent players; even the big names are struggling to return draft value. One player who had a dominant week was Mike Gesicki. He caught five passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns. His 27 fantasy points were the most of the week for a tight end. Gesicki has back-to-back games with five catches and at least 73 yards; even in a limited snap count(27 snaps in Week 9), he has become a weapon for Joe Burrow. He has even become one of Burrow’s go-to options on third down. His 12 third-down receptions this year are tight for second most amongst tight ends. If you are in desperate need of a TE, Gesicki could be your guy. He is worth anywhere from 5-10% FAAB.
