Xavier Legette's WR3 Role Looks Much Safer

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette has a clearer hold on the No. 3 role after Chris Brazzell II went down with a season-ending knee injury. Brazzell had looked good early in camp and was expected to have a role, but surgery on the LCL in his left knee ended his rookie year before it started. Legette is now listed with the first-team offense alongside Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker, and Carolina held all three out of the preseason finale because their roster spots were secure. That matters after Legette slipped to 35 catches for 363 yards and three touchdowns last season. His own summer was encouraging, too. Dave Canales praised the work Legette put into the details of his game, and the former first-round pick was having a strong camp before a foot issue cost him some time late in August. He returned to practice on Sept. 1. McMillan and Coker remain ahead of him in the target pecking order, so the fantasy ceiling is still limited. The WR3 path, though, looks much cleaner than it did entering camp.

Xavier Legette to Stay in Walking Boot Until Thursday

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said on Monday that wide receiver Xavier Legette (ankle) will remain in a walking boot until Thursday, according to Steve Reed of The Associated Press. Legette suffered an ankle injury in last Wednesday's joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars and will most likely sit out the preseason finale this Friday against the Houston Texans. It is bad news as the 25-year-old looks to solidify the WR3 role in Carolina behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker, but there is not any reason to believe that he will not be ready for the Week 1 regular-season opener in early September. The 25-year-old former first-rounder in 2024 from South Carolina has disappointed in his first two years in the NFL, catching 84 of his 148 targets for 860 yards and seven touchdowns in 31 games (25 starts). Legette regressed in 2025 with a 35-363-3 line after the team took McMillan in the first round of last year's draft. He should still have a role in the Panthers' offense in 2026 if he is healthy, but the volume is unlikely to be enough to make him rosterable in 12-team fantasy leagues.

Xavier Legette in a Boot, Day-to-Day After Getting Ankle "Rolled Up On"

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette (ankle) twisted his ankle during Wednesday's practice and did not play in Friday's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Dave Canales said Legette didn't finish practice after getting his ankle "rolled up on." According to Canales, Legette is also experiencing foot soreness and is listed as day-to-day. The former 32nd overall pick is expected to handle the WR3 workload in Carolina, behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker, who will rotate ahead of him. If Legette misses time with this ankle injury, wide receivers John Metchie and Jimmy Horn Jr. would take on a larger workload in his place. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues should keep an eye on this, since all the Panthers' receivers could be affected if he is out.

Xavier Legette Having Strong Training Camp

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette is having a strong camp as he enters an important 2026 season. After a sophomore season marred by critical mistakes, Legette is in great shape and appears to have sharpened his connection with quarterback Bryce Young. The former 32nd overall pick had 363 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games last season, but his snap count dropped significantly toward the end of the season. While the team appeared poised to replace him with third-round pick Chris Brazzell III (knee), the Panthers' rookie wideout suffered an LCL injury that required season-ending surgery, opening the door for Legette to play a role in 2026. While he will remain behind 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan and emerging wideout Jalen Coker, Legette may still have a role in deeper fantasy leagues this season.

Xavier Legette Returns to Practice

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette (neck) was back at practice on Sunday after suffering a stinger while hauling in a touchdown catch and leaving Tuesday's practice on a cart. The third-year player was a full participant in what was one of the more intense sessions of the summer, according to team reporter Kassidy Hill. With 2026 third-round pick Chris Brazzell II (knee) already ruled out for the entirety of his rookie season after tearing his LCL in the early days of training camp, Legette's presence becomes all the more important as the potential third receiver alongside Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker. Head coach Dave Canales has indicated that he will play his starters in Saturday's next preseason matchup with the Bills, and barring any setbacks, Legette, who is RotoBaller's WR109, should be a part of that group.

Dave Canales Says Xavier Legette is "Back" From Injury

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said that wide receiver Xavier Legette (neck) "feels great" and is "back," according to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer. The Panthers held Legette out of the Hall of Fame preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night as a precaution, but it sounds like he could be ready to return to practice soon after being carted off due to a neck stinger earlier this week. The health of Legette is pretty important now after rookie wideout Chris Brazzell II (knee) was already ruled out for the entire 2026 season. The 25-year-old former 32nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft from South Carolina is now considered the favorite to hold WR3 duties behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker, although that role probably won't afford Legette enough volume to be taken seriously by fantasy managers in standard-sized 12-team leagues. Legette has been a disappointment in his first two years in the league, and he caught only 35 passes on 64 targets for 363 yards and three touchdowns in 15 regular-season games in his sophomore campaign.

Xavier Legette Suffers a Stinger, Won't Play in Hall of Fame Game

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said on Tuesday that wide receiver Xavier Legette (neck) suffered a stinger in training camp practice and isn't dealing with a concussion, according to Steve Reed of The Associated Press. Legette will not play in Thursday's Hall of Fame preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, but he's expected to return to the practice field next week. It doesn't sound like the Panthers are worried about Legette's availability for the 2026 regular-season opener in early September, which is good news, considering rookie wideout Chris Brazzell II (knee) is already out for the season. As long as Legette doesn't pick up any more injuries, he figures to be the favorite for WR3 duties to begin the 2026 season in Carolina behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker. The 25-year-old from South Carolina hasn't lived up to expectations after the Panthers took him 32nd overall in 2024, as Legette has recorded 84 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns in 31 games (25 starts) in his two seasons. He had a 35-363-3 line in 15 games in 2025, which was a step back from his rookie numbers. Fantasy managers in typical 12-team leagues should be avoiding Legette in drafts.

Xavier Legette Favored for Panthers' WR3 Role

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette now has the inside track on the No. 3 role after rookie Chris Brazzell II suffered a moderate LCL tear in his left knee and is expected to miss up to eight weeks, according to Joe Person. Person reported that the new injury is believed to be unrelated to the knee soreness that kept Brazzell out of practice Sunday and Tuesday. With Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker established atop the depth chart, Legette is now positioned ahead of David Moore and John Metchie III for the next spot. The 25-year-old caught 35 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games last season after recording 49 receptions for 497 yards and four scores as a rookie. Legette has also made several notable catches early in camp, including a red-zone touchdown Sunday. Brazzell's absence removes the most prominent challenger to Legette's role, but the former first-round pick still must turn the opportunity into more consistent production before becoming a dependable fantasy option.

Xavier Legette Turning Heads in Training Camp

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette's performance in training camp practice was impressive, per Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340. Legette is in the beginning stages of a critical summer, as the former first-round pick is likely fighting to retain his starting role in 2026. Across 15 games (12 starts) last season, Legette recorded 35 catches for 363 yards and four touchdowns on 64 targets. Carolina used a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on wide receiver Chris Brazzell II (knee), who could push Legette for the Panthers' WR3 role behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker. However, Brazzell II was held out of Sunday's practice due to knee soreness, while Legette reportedly had a great day. It's still early, but the battle between Legette and Brazzell II will be one for deep-league and dynasty managers to monitor throughout the summer.

Xavier Legette has Fallen Off of Fantasy Draft Boards

A first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette has yet to deliver on his lofty draft capital, and he appears to be trending in the wrong direction heading into Year 3. With the top two spots on Carolina's receiver depth chart locked up by Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker, Legette finds himself battling for a rotational role with free agent acquisition John Metchie III and 2026 third-round pick Chris Brazzell II. With the Panthers taking part in this year's Hall of Fame Game, training camp practices have already begun in Charlotte, and the battle for the team's third receiver spot will be one to monitor. Though even if Legette emerges as a runaway winner, the role could still hold little value in Carolina's low-passing-volume offense. Held to only 35 receptions and 363 yards a season ago, fantasy expectations remain low for Legette, and he falls outside of RotoBaller's top 300 players for 2026.
