Bryce Young Will Play in Preseason Game Against Buffalo

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said that the starters, including quarterback Bryce Young, will play in the team's preseason game this week against the Buffalo Bills, according to Panthers reporter Kassidy Hill. Young and the starters should get around 10 to 20 plays, depending on how the drives develop. The 25-year-old Young didn't take part in the team's Hall of Fame game last Thursday against the Arizona Cardinals, so he'll see his first preseason action this week. The former first overall pick in 2023 from the University of Alabama had the best year of his career in his third season in 2025, completing 63.6% of his pass attempts for 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 16 regular-season starts while leading the team to the NFC South title. However, it's debatable as to how much higher a ceiling Young has, especially since he doesn't have a big arm or very exciting targets outside of receiver Tetairoa McMillan. Young appears to be trending towards being a solid NFL starting QB, but for fantasy purposes, he's more of a low-end QB2 target with a low ceiling.

Bryce Young Will Not Play in Hall of Fame Game

With the first action of the 2026 preseason slated for Thursday, August 6, when the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals meet for the Hall of Fame Game, participation and usage of teams' starters and depth players will soon become a major storyline, and the Panthers have already announced that quarterback Bryce Young will not see any action in the preseason opener. With head coach Dave Canales telling reporters that most of the team's starters will sit, veteran Kenny Pickett will draw the start. Young enters his fourth season with no long-term extension in place, making 2026 a critical proving year after three up-and-down seasons, and at RotoBaller's QB26, he is viewed as little more than an occasional streaming option in single-quarterback leagues.

Bryce Young Turning Heads at Panthers' Camp

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has gotten off to a strong start at training camp and has taken full command of the Panthers' offense. Young had his best practice of the summer during the Panthers' second padded practice last week, and there is a completely different feel at their camp this season. The former first overall pick led the Panthers to their first postseason appearance since 2017, totaling 3,011 passing yards and 23 touchdowns in 16 games last season. Young is entering a contract year and his third season under head coach Dave Canales as the Panthers look to take another step in 2026. While Young is currently outside the range to be drafted in single-quarterback leagues, he remains an option in Superflex or deeper leagues.

Bryce Young a Non-Factor in 2026 Single-QB Drafts

By fantasy finish alone, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has shown steady improvement in each of his three seasons, rising from QB23 as a rookie to QB20 in Year 2 and a QB19 finish last season. Obviously, his actual path has not been as linear, with a performance-based benching in 2024, and he now enters a critical fourth season. Young demonstrated some of the highest highs of his career in 2025, throwing for 448 yards and three scores in a Week 11 overtime win over the Falcons, but he also failed to reach 200 passing yards in 12 of 17 outings. With few notable additions on the offensive side of the ball and the Panthers slated to face a first-place schedule in 2026, much will be asked of Young as he looks to earn a long-term extension. And even if he proves capable of taking another small step forward, in a year with so many fantasy-viable options at the position, Young is not a player who should factor into draft plans in single-quarterback leagues. He enters the year as RotoBaller's QB26.

Bryce Young Could Have Sleeper Appeal in Two-Quarterback Leagues

Across 16 games in 2025, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young completed 63.6% of his pass attempts for 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. The 24-year-old also provided modest production with his legs, rushing for 216 yards and two scores on 54 attempts. While Young has made definite strides since his disastrous rookie season in 2023, he's yet to prove he can provide consistent top-12 fantasy production. At the same time, Young finished as the QB19 in 2025, putting him solidly in the QB2 range. There's also a chance that the Panthers operate with less of a run-heavy approach in 2026 after losing running back Rico Dowdle in free agency. Even if Young's development stagnates and his 2026 production mirrors his 2025 output, he should outperform his current redraft ADP of QB26. In superflex formats, Young may be a sneaky sleeper for fantasy managers to target.

Bryce Young's Dynasty Value Impacted by Inconsistency

Carolina quarterback Bryce Young has had an up-and-down career since the Panthers made him the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The soon-to-be-25-year-old signal caller was briefly benched in his second season before reclaiming the job due to injury, and in his third season in 2025, he led the Panthers to an 8-9 record and their first playoff appearance since 2017. His fantasy results have also been held down by a lack of consistency, with finishes of QB23, QB20, and QB19. Young's five 2025 weekly results as the QB12 or better marked a career high, but through three seasons in the league, he has yet to string two such finishes together in consecutive weeks, making him a difficult weekly play outside of best ball formats. His best outing in 2025 came in a Week 11 overtime win over the Falcons, in which he threw for 448 yards and scored more than 36 fantasy points. By contrast, in the two games prior, he scored a combined 0.54 fantasy points while playing 100% of the snaps. At RotoBaller's dynasty QB28, Young is a passable QB2 in superflex leagues, but his devastating lows make him more suitable as a luxury third quarterback.

Panthers Will Continue to Discuss Extension With Bryce Young

Carolina Panthers president of football operations/general manager Dan Morgon told the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on Tuesday that the organization will continue to "talk through" a potential long-term contract extension with quarterback Bryce Young. Morgan added that the team "will figure it out at the right time," and that the team "loves him" as he works hard to improve year after year. Carolina unsurprisingly picked up the 24-year-old's fifth-year option for the 2027 season, so they don't exactly have to be in a rush to sign him to an extension. The former first overall pick in 2023 out of Alabama looked overmatched as a rookie and was benched in favor of Andy Dalton in Year 2, but he took a big step forward in 2025, throwing for 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 16 regular-season starts. Young's physical attributes don't exactly jump out at you, but he has shown in the last year and a half that he has what it takes to at least be a competent starter in the NFL. His dynasty stock is on the rise, but RotoBaller still has him ranked only as the No. 28 QB in those formats.

Panthers Pick Up Bryce Young's Fifth-Year Option

The Carolina Panthers officially picked up quarterback Bryce Young's fifth-year option for the 2027 season on Wednesday, according to Darin Gantt of the team's official website. It was a no-brainer move for the Panthers after Young set new career-highs in passing yards (3,011), touchdowns (23), completion percentage (63.6), and passer rating (87.8). He also had six of his 12 game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime in 2025, and his 12 comeback wins are the most of any QB in the NFL since 2023. While Young still shouldn't be viewed as a legitimate QB1 in fantasy football in 2026, he has proven in recent seasons that he is improving, and he was especially effective late in games and in close contests. The former first overall pick in 2023 is now under contract for the next two seasons in Carolina and has plenty of receiving weapons in Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker, Xavier Legette, and rookie Chris Brazzell II to take another step forward as a passer in 2026. Young is a rising high-end QB2 in superflex and dynasty/keeper leagues.

Bryce Young Entering Prove-it Territory

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young entered the league with all the expectations of a No. 1 overall pick, but through his first three seasons, consistency has evaded him. Carolina has exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, giving the team two more years of affordable control and Young an additional chance to prove he's worthy of a massive pay raise. After a lackluster rookie campaign, Young was able to overcome a second-season benching in 2024, and with an improved surrounding cast, namely Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan, he put up his best statistical season to date in 2025, finishing year three with 3,011 yards and 23 touchdowns on a 63.6% completion rate, all career highs. Unfortunately, that increased production, modest as it was, still came with fits and starts. Young topped 200 passing yards only once through the first 10 weeks before throwing for a career high 448 yards in a Week 11 win over the Falcons. He then went on to average 175 yards per game the rest of the way, including a brutal 54-yard outing in fantasy championship week. Carolina will likely look to add more offensive firepower through the upcoming NFL Draft, and Young did establish a late-season rapport with his big-bodied slot receiver Jalen Coker, so the pieces could be in place for yet another step forward. Unfortunately, until he's shown he can regularly string together week-winning performances, he profiles as little more than a QB3 in superflex dynasty leagues.

Bryce Young a Potential Trade Target in Dynasty Leagues?

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young posted mixed results in 2025, but his strong finish to the year and his career-high 23 passing touchdowns put him in the conversation as a potential buy-low target in dynasty leagues. Young took strides during his third pro season, posting a career-best finish as QB19 in fantasy football. The touchdown total increased to a new career-high mark, but so did the turnovers, as he threw 11 interceptions and coughed up four fumbles. Young was highly inconsistent, and it ws difficult for fantasy managers to know when to start him. He did start to turn a corner in the second half of the season, though, ranking as the QB11 from Week 11 through Week 18. We could see the former No. 1 pick take another step forward next year as the offense takes on a slightly new look. Head coach Dave Canales is passing off play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Brad Idzik, and Young will have more freedom to make changes at the line of scrimmage. Additionally, he should have his top two receivers (Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker) healthy for Week 1, giving him a pair of highly talented weapons heading into the season. There will still be growing pains, and we won't claim to expect a top-12 fantasy finish from Young. However, such an outcome wouldn't surprise us, either. As a result, he's an intriguing speculative buy-low candidate at his current price tag in dynasty leagues.
