The Charlotte Observer's Mike Kaye reported last week that Carolina Panthers offensive guard Robert Hunt (knee) was set to take part in dodgeball and tug-of-war during Pro Bowl festivities. Hunt was held out of the Week 18 regular-season finale due to a knee injury, but it obviously wasn't serious enough to keep the 28-year-old offensive lineman from taking part in Pro Bowl week. He also should be ready for all offseason workouts and training camp this summer. The Panthers signed Hunt to a five-year, $100 million deal last March before he started in all 16 games that he appeared in over the course of his first season with the team. Hunt was originally a second-round selection by the Miami Dolphins in 2020 out of Louisiana, and he spent the first four years of his NFL career in Miami. He will be a starter on Carolina's O-line this fall.
The Carolina Panthers agreed to terms with free-agent offensive guard Robert Hunt on a five-year, $100 million deal on Monday, according to a source. The deal includes $63 million guaranteed. It's a huge free-agent contract for Hunt, who was taken by the Miami Dolphins in the second round in 2020 out of LSU. The 27-year-old offensive lineman started 55 of the 61 games that he played in in his four seasons in South Beach, although he missed six games in 2023 due to a hamstring injury. In addition to being reliable, Hunt had at least one snap at every position on the Dolphins' offensive line except left guard during his four years with the team. He has primarily played right tackle and right guard and will head to Carolina to provide quarterback Bryce Young with more interior protection after the top pick in the 2023 draft was sacked 62 times, second-most in the NFL.
Miami Dolphins rookie offensive lineman Robert Hunt, taken early in the second round, could wind up starting right away at right tackle. The Dolphins selected Austin Jackson in this year's draft with the idea of him starting immediately at left tackle, so Miami could have rookies at both left and right tackle to protect either quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick or rookie Tua Tagovailoa in Week 1 of the 2020 season. They'll be blocking for a running game that will mostly consist of Jordan Howard on early downs and Matt Breida in obvious passing situations.
The Miami Dolphins have drafted Louisiana-Lafayette offensive guard/tackle Robert Hunt with the No. 39 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. This is a great pick by Miami who desperately needed to add to their offensive line. Hunt is versatile playing both the guard and tackle spot, which is always great to have on your roster. Hunt has solid movement skills and uses his brute strength to overpower defenders at times. Hunt should immediately improve the Dolphins o-line and hopefully will give Tua Tagovailoa a little more time to pass.
