Dolphins Picking Up Jaelan Phillips' Option

The Miami Dolphins will exercise the fifth-year option for linebacker Jaelan Phillips (Achilles), according to general manager Chris Grier. The former 18th overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft, Phillips has been an integral piece for the Dolphins defense since he entered the league three years ago. He set a Dolphins rookie record with 8.5 sacks in 2021 and had seven sacks in 2022 before playing in only eight games in 2023 because of an Achilles tear. Before his injury, he was on pace for a career-high 14 sacks. The Dolphins expect Phillips to make a full recovery for the start of the 2024 campaign. Miami can't afford for Phillips to regress after his injury after losing Christian Wilkins this offseason. If healthy in 2024, Phillips should be on the IDP fantasy radar.

Jaelan Phillips Seemingly Believes He'll Be Ready For Week 1

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips (Achilles) continues to rehab after tearing his Achilles in the Week 12 win over the New York Jets in November. After undergoing surgery and ditching a walking boot, the 24-year-old appears to have a chance to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024-25 campaign. Phillips, while speaking with ESPN on Saturday, stated he's "attacking it every day" while adding he'll "definitely" be back healthy for the season. The 2021 No. 18 overall pick has been a menace since entering the league, totaling 146 tackles (88 solo), 22 sacks, and one interception in 42 career games. With that in mind, while Phillips' optimism is encouraging for IDP managers, he could have a tough time getting back to form after coming off such a devastating injury.

Jaelan Phillips Out Of Boot

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips (Achilles) said on Wednesday that he walked without a boot for the first time since having surgery to fix a torn Achilles and is well on his way to recovery. Phillips suffered the injury in a Week 12 win over the New York Jets on Nov. 24 and is now two months removed from the surgery. The 24-year-old has a shot to be fully recovered in time for Week 1 of the regular season, barring setbacks, but we'll keep a close eye on his recovery this offseason. Before his season-ending injury, Phillips was on pace for career-best numbers with 43 tackles (28 solo), 6.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, 11 QB hits and an interception in eight games played. Phillips will be an integral part of Miami's linebacking corps again in 2024.

Jaelan Phillips Officially Placed On Injured Reserve

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips (Achilles) was officially placed on the Injured Reserve list on Tuesday. Phillips suffered a non-contact injury in the Dolphins' 34-13 win over the New York Jets last week, which turned out to be a torn Achilles for the young defensive star. Before the season-ending injury, the 24-year-old was on his way to a career year. He had 6.5 sacks, 43 tackles (seven for loss), and 11 quarterback hits in just eight games this season. With Phillips now out for the year, Emmanuel Ogbah is likely to see more snaps for Miami's defense.

MRI Confirms Torn Achilles For Jaelan Phillips

An MRI exam on Saturday confirmed that Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips (Achilles) suffered a torn Achilles on Friday in the Week 12 win over the New York Jets. Phillips will be forced to miss the rest of the season, which will be a big blow for the Dolphins defense the rest of the way. Before suffering the torn Achilles on Friday, the 24-year-old had three tackles and a sack. Phillips was on pace to set a new career-high in sacks this year, but instead he'll finish with 6.5 sacks, 43 tackles (28 solo), seven tackles for loss, 11 QB hits and one interception in eight games played for the Dolphins. Emmanuel Ogbah should see a big boost in playing time on the edge for Miami's D the rest of the season.

Jaelan Phillips Carted Off After Non-Contact Injury

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips (leg) might be looking at an extended absence after being carted off the field in Friday's Week 12 contest against the New York Jets in the fourth quarter after suffering a non-contact injury. Phillips didn't appear to be in good spirits after being carted off. He could be dealing with a torn Achilles or torn ACL, which would both keep him out for the remainder of the 2023 campaign. Before the serious injury, the 24-year-old had three tackles and a sack against the Jets. Phillips' injury will be a serious one for the Dolphins defense, as he entered the day second on the team with 5.5 sacks. The third-year linebacker also had 39 tackles (25 solo), four tackles for loss, nine QB hits and an interception entering Friday's game. UPDATE: Phillips was listed with an Achilles injury.

Jaelan Phillips Logs Limited Practice on Wednesday

Miami Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips (oblique) logged a limited practice on Wednesday. That's an improvement from last week when Phillips missed all of the Dolphins' practices and was inactive for the Week 4 game against Buffalo. Phillips also missed Week 2 and only played 29 snaps in Week 3. If he can play in Week 5 against the New York Giants, he has a favorable matchup. The Giants are allowing 5.8 sacks per game, the second-most in the league. They allow a sack on 14.7% of dropbacks, the most.

Dolphins Sign First-Rounder Jaelan Phillips

The Miami Dolphins signed first-round linebacker Jaelan Phillips to his four-year rookie deal on Wednesday. Phillips was taken with the 18th overall selection in this year's NFL draft out of the University of Miami. In his first full season in 2020, he earned All-American honors while racking up 45 tackles, eight sacks, one interception and four passes defensed. Listed as a defensive end in college, Phillips will be used as a linebacker to generate pressure off the edge in Miami. The 22-year-old has some injury concerns, but if he can stay healthy, he could wind up being one of the most talented edge rushers of his draft class. He can win with either finesse or straight power, and Phillips could be on the IDP radar sooner than later.

Jaelan Phillips Taken At No. 18 By Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins selected University of Miami edge rusher Jaelan Phillips with the No. 18 overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft on Thursday night. If Phillips can just avoid injuries, this could be a home run pick for the Dolphins defense. The pass-rusher won't overwhelm offensive linemen with his pure overall strength, but he has the swim moves and hands to do plenty of damage in opposing backfields. Phillips is a much better pass-rusher than he is in run defense. Head injuries in college made him consider retirement at an early age, so hopefully he can avoid concussions in the NFL. Phillips has an incredibly high ceiling if he stays healthy, and we could see double-digit sacks in just his rookie season.
