Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 2

Waiver Wire Pickups

Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 2Week 2 is here in the 2023 NFL season. It’s hard to believe that waivers are already due as it feels like it’s been forever since last doing waivers last year. If only we could have NFL football year-round. Congratulations on surviving Week 1 of the NFL Season. It was a bloodbath littered with injuries, under-performances, ghosting, and even wilder finishes. Many players suffered injuries or awful performances like Austin Ekeler, Diontae Johnson,  and many more.  Due to these injuries and poor performances from players, you need some new players on your roster. That’s why you’re reading this article. I’ll give you some names that you should see if they are on your waivers and consider picking them up. The league I’ll be basing these on is a 1QB, PPR, and 12-team league, although I’ll include some deeper league shout-outs.

The waivers are based on Yahoo’s system and roster percentages. Waivers typically process Tuesday or Wednesday night so go get those claims in! I wish you luck with Week 2 and may the NFL overlords give us some great football, no missed kicks, and plenty of healthy players with no injuries. Truly, it’s kind of depressing and crazy that Week 2’s here already. Enjoy the fantasy football and NFL season while you can!

Quick Links

Quarterbacks

Jordan Love

Green Bay Packers, 31% rostered

No one was more excited to see Love do so well than Packers fans. No one was more upset than NFC North fans who aren’t Packers fans. Love led the Packers to a blow-out win against the Chicago Bears with 245 yards on 15/27 passing and three touchdowns. He added 12 rushing yards on three attempts. It’s only one game, but Love is an excellent choice to man as your backup quarterback as you never know when injuries will strike. Just look at Aaron Rodgers’ injury during Monday Night Football. Love has plenty of weapons and an elite offensive line that will give him plenty of time to work. It’s an ideal situation for a new young quarterback.

Honorable Mention: Sam Howell

Running Backs

Joshua Kelly

Los Angeles Chargers, 5% rostered

The Chargers are in a running back by committee now with new Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore at the helm. Kelly was an RB1 on Sunday shockingly with 91 yards on 16 attempts and a touchdown. Now, with the news that Austin Ekeler suffered an ankle injury on Sunday, don’t be surprised if Kelly gets a lot more usage this week against the Titans. He’s a must-own player in fantasy now with this kind of work and the unknown with Ekeler.

Justice Hill

Baltimore Ravens, 4% rostered

With the horrible news that JK Dobbins is down for the season due to a torn Achilles, the Ravens’ running back room is wide open. Hill got the most work besides Dobbins in their win against the Texans, so it would appear he’s the next man up. Hill didn’t get a lot of work, but he made the most of it. He saw just eight rushes and had only nine yards, but scored two touchdowns. I’d expect better yardage results next weekend as Hill mainly got used in just short-yardage situations like the goal line. Still, you want the running back of the Ravens.

Honorable Mentions: Tyler Allegeier, Zach Moss, Melvin Gordon III, Roschon Johnson, Kenneth Gainwell, Kyren Williams

Wide Receivers

Puka Nacua

Los Angeles Rams, 7% rostered

It’s well seen that Matthew Stafford loves to force-feed targets to a single receiver. Look at Calvin Johnson, Kenny Gollady, and Cooper Kupp as prime examples. It would appear that Nacua is the latest example he saw a sky-high 15 targets in the Rams’ game against the Seahawks. Nacua looks to be the Rams’ WR1 while Kupp is out. The return date for Kupp is unknown, but he’s out at least until Week 5. Meanwhile, Nacua had 10 catches for 119 yards. He’s well worth a spot on your roster.

Zay Jones

Jacksonville Jaguars, 31% rostered

It was shocking to see how much Jones got targeted, especially in the red zone on Sunday. However, it would appear that he still has a lot of Trevor Lawrence’s trust. Plus, Christian Kirk saw just one target. Meanwhile, Jones saw seven targets and caught five of them for 55 yards and a score; There will likely be other weeks that Jones doesn’t see this target load when Kirk gets featured more. However, he’s worth a roster spot and an excellent play in the bye weeks. Plus, you want every weapon on this talented Jaguars team.

Honorable Mentions: Calvin Austin III, Rasheed Shaheed, Romeo Doubs

Tight Ends

Hayden Hurst

Carolina Panthers, 11% rostered

Perhaps Hurst’s big Week 1 numbers should’ve been expected. After all, he is the tight end for a rookie quarterback in Bryce Young. It’s well-known how much tight ends can be useful for young quarterbacks to rely on. I’m not expecting Hurst to continue to put up TE2 overall numbers, but in the tight-end wasteland, he could easily be a TE1. In Week 1, he scored 15.1 PPR points and had five catches on seven targets for 41 yards and a touchdown. That’s solid numbers, especially when you consider the Panthers don’t have a lot of receiving weapons to work with.

Honorable Mentions: Hunter Henry, Sam LaPorta

As always, I’m more than happy to talk on Twitter. Let me know your thoughts on these players if you managed to trade for/away from them. If you need thoughts on any trade, my DMs are open on 18/7. I respond to everyone.
