Waiver Wire Week 10 Pickups

Waiver Wire Week 10

We are starting to hit the second half of the fantasy football season! The playoffs are coming! Time to build on your success so far this season through the waiver wire. This will not only be useful to those who are looking for options in Week 10 but for the rest of the season! This list compiles players available in most leagues on Yahoo.com! Remember dominating the waiver wire is crucial to your fantasy football league. So get that FAAB budget ready to spend on some waiver wire pickups for Week 10!

QUARTERBACK

Once again a helpful hint is that you should be trying to stream the quarterback position unless you have Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson or Dak Prescott. With the Redskins, Eagles, Patriots, Jaguars, Texans, and Broncos on bye weeks, you must look for the position on the waiver wire that you can start in Week 10!

Daniel Jones

Less Than 27% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Jones has been an up and down fantasy option; struggling in bad matchups and performing well in plus matchups. In Week 10, Jones gets another plus matchup versus the New York Jets who over the last past two weeks have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points per game to the quarterback position. And that was against the likes of Gardner Minshew and Ryan Fitzpatrick who both scored 23 fantasy points with three passing touchdowns apiece. In New York, the Jets are allowing the most passing attempts per game (39.2).

Jimmy Garoppolo

Less Than 67% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Garoppolo shredded the Cardinals’ poor defense on Halloween night throwing for 317 yards and four touchdowns. He now gets to take on the Seattle Seahawks who have been downright putrid on defense this season. Over the past four weeks, Seattle has allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to the quarterback position. On the road, this season Seattle is allowing 269 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and 38.8 passing attempts per game.

Sam Darnold

Less Than 26% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

It has not been good for Darnold since the Dallas Cowboys game. He has yet to surpass 16 fantasy points in three straight weeks, but with six teams on bye weeks, you could do much worse than Darnold versus the Giants. Like the Jets defense, the Giants have allowed the past two quarterbacks they have faced to throw for three touchdowns apiece for an average of 23 fantasy points.

Ryan Tannehill

Less Than 18% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Even though he was on the road last week, Tannehill had his best outing as a fantasy starter scoring 25 fantasy points. Over the past three weeks, Tannehill is the QB8 overall averaging 20.5 fantasy points per game. Things look to continue rolling versus the Chiefs that on the road this season has allowed an NFL-high 8.8 yards per pass attempt. Kansas City overall gives up the tenth-most fantasy points to the quarterback position.

Honorable Mentions: – Ryan Fitzpatrick at IND, Ryan Finley vs BAL

RUNNING BACKS

Always be aggressive from the waiver wire with running backs. With injuries so common at the position you never know when a back-up running back will find himself very quickly into a bell-cow workload. In this case, it is also worth it to be proactive with speculative adds to backups with injuries to starting running backs. Especially as we continue to get through more bye-weeks.

Kalen Ballage

Less Than 10% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Once again we have a new clear lead running back in Miami. Mark Walton is facing a 4-game suspension, so that would thrust Ballage into the primary ball carrier role. Ballage saw his second-highest snap count (21) in Week 9 so that just looks to trend up even more in Week 10 versus the Colts. Despite getting Darius Leonard back the Colts have allowed the tenth-most fantasy points to backs over the past two weeks. Myles Gaskins is worth adding in deeper formats as well.

Ronald Jones II

Less Than 41% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians said Ronald Jones has “earned the right to start” and “play more snaps.” This is an obvious bode of confidence for the second-year running back that at worst is the lead runner on a top-five scoring offense. That in itself warrants Jones as the must-add of the week for Week 10, especially versus a porous Arizona defense. In games where Jones has seen the work with at least 10 carries he has averaged 11.6 fantasy points per game. Arizona has allowed at least 13 carries to the opposing lead back in every single game they have played this season.

Gus Edwards

Less Than 4% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Edwards is a premier handcuff to Mark Ingram that should be rostered across all formats. He is averaging 4.4 yards per carry this season. He also has some FLEX appeal this week if things get out of hand versus the Bengals. They have allowed the second-most fantasy points to the running back position this season.

Ty Montgomery

Less Than 3% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Edwards is a premier handcuff to Le’Veon Bell that should be rostered with news of Bell undergoing an MRI. Montgomery has a three-down skillset, so he needs to be added.

Honorable Mentions: – Kareem Hunt vs BUF, Darrell Henderson Jr. at PIT

WIDE RECEIVERS

Receivers are much more volatile by nature, so consider asking yourself how often you will start this receiver you bid aggressively on the waiver wire?  Understand how you will use this player when they are added to your roster. Are you adding them to start them in Week 10 or are looking for more long-term? This can help determine priorities when addressing the waiver wire.

Pro Tip: If you are not sure who you should drop, just drop your kicker to add an extra bench player. That way you can keep more receivers or runnings backs and let things play out during the week. Then on Sunday morning just drop the player you need the least to add a kicker to your starting lineup. Any way to get an edge!

Zach Pascal

Less Than 21% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

With T.Y. Hilton out Pascal became the main target in the Colts’ passing game. He caught five of six targets for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Colts’ Week 9 loss to the Steelers. He should continue to draw more looks in a great matchup versus the Miami Dolphins in Week 10. Miami has given up the eighth-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season.

DeVante Parker

Less Than 36% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Preston Williams has been placed on injured reserve establishing Parker as the number one target in Miami. This season outside of the game versus New England, Parker has at least 55 receiving yards or a touchdown in all six of his games this season. Over the past three weeks, Parker ranks as WR21 overall. The Colts are also dealing with loads of injuries within their secondary.

Josh Reynolds

Less Than 2% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Things to do not look great for Brandin Cooks as the latest report has him as no timetable for return. If he indeed misses Reynolds would be slotted into all the three-receiver sets that the Rams love to run. Back in Week 8, Reynolds had eight targets. He had ten combined targets in the previous seven games combined.

Ted Ginn Jr.

Less Than 6% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

When the Saints play at home with Drew Brees under center against arguably the worst defense in the NFL (Falcons) Ginn needs to be on your radar as a ceiling play to help generate upside into your lineups. The last time Ginn play the Falcons at home as a member of the Saints he had 76 receiving yards and touchdown.

A.J. Brown

Less Than 19% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Brown saw a season-high 52 snaps in Week 9 to go along with seven targets. He now has surpassed 60 receiving yards or scored a touchdown in three straight weeks and gets a great matchup versus the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10.

Honorable Mentions: Auden Tate vs BAL, N’Keal Harry (Bye Week), Alex Erickson vs BAL

TIGHT END

O.J. Howard

Less than 35% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Bruce Arians said that Howard has overcome his hamstring injury and should be ready to roll versus Arizona. With the Cardinals matchup so juicy, this is the week to get back on Howard.  No team has allowed more fantasy points to the tight end than Arizona Cardinals.

Jack Doyle

Less than 25% Owned in Yahoo Leagues

Doyle only saw four targets with no Hilton but should continue to see targets if he continues to miss games. Starting skill players versus the Dolphins has worked thus far this season, so continue to stream guys that face that defense. Doyle also added a red-zone touchdown reception when Brian Hoyer entered the game.

Honorable Mentions: Gerald Everett at PIT, Mike Gesicki at IND, Jacob Hollister at SF

For defenses, you want to target the teams with the highest spreads. That assumes that the team will be winning thus forcing the opponent to have to be throwing more; creating more opportunities for sacks, fumbles, and interceptions. You do not want to start even great defenses against teams that are run-heavy. A theme with some of these defenses is they are home favorites.

  • Baltimore Ravens (47% Owned) – The Bengals are starting a rookie quarterback.
  • Indianapolis Colts (37% Owned) – Ryan Fitzpatrick on the road. Miami has given up the second-most fantasy points to team defenses this season.
  • New Orleans (64% Owned) – Falcons have been extremely turnover prone this season
  • Pittsburgh (59% Owned) – The Steelers defensive line should be able to disrupt a bad Rams offensive line playing on the road.

Andrew has come a long way as a fantasy football writer. After graduating from Roger Williams University where he received a degree in marketing he began to write his own fantasy blogs via WordPress.com. He used to call himself the Fantasy Football Master. Nowadays, he is slightly more humble. He has worked with Pro Football Focus as an base data analyst along with bringing head writing experience from Gridiron Experts. He is an absolute die hard Patriots fan (humble brag) and will never forget his first fantasy football team. In his first ever fantasy football league he drafted the Bears defense in the 1st round. He then proceeded to win the entire league. #DefenseWinsChampionships
