15 DFS Golf Picks and Tips for the Wyndham Championship

Daily Fantasy Golf Tips

Just one more week to go before the 2019 playoffs begin for the PGA Tour! With the Open Championship and a WGC event in back-to-back weeks, it’s not surprising that the field this week isn’t star-studded as the elite players rest up for playoff event number one at The Northern Trust next week in Jersey City. This week presents the 2019 edition of the Wyndham Championship – taking place at Sedgefield Country Club, as per usual.

Sedgefield is a short track at just 7,127, is a par 70, and features Bermuda greens. The field is fully packed at 156 golfers, the first cut will be made on Friday evening after round two concludes, and there will be an MDF (secondary cut) that happens on Saturday after round 3 if at least 79 players make the cut on Friday. Last week’s winner at the Barracuda Championship, Collin Morikawa, is back for more fun this week at the Wyndham Championship. The WGC-FedEx St.Jude Invitational winner from last week, Brooks Koepka, is taking this week off to gear up for the start of the playoffs next Thursday. The key stats to pay attention to this week are Strokes Gained: Approach, Par 4s Gained: 400-450 Yards, Par 5s Gained, Proximity Gained 150-175 Yards, and Opportunities Gained.

Onto my selections for this week, you can read over my player selections below for the Wyndham Championship – my top 10 favorite golfers to do well in the tournament and 5 value picks (in no particular order), and I include player salaries for both DraftKings and FanDuel as well.

10 Players Who Are Poised to Finish Strong This Week

Webb Simpson (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,200, FanDuel – $11,900) – He’s the clear cut favorite to win this week for me as he was runner up last week at the WGC tournament, has 5 top 10 finishes this season with just one missed cut in 16 events, and most notably he dominates this tournament – he won here in 2011, was 2nd last year, 3rd in 2017, 6th in 2015, and has other impressive finishes on this course as well. He’s a North Carolina guy who loves this local course, and he actually named his daughter Wyndham – so you know he loves this place and is driven to win! The only negative aspect for him this week is that he will be owned in 25% to 30% of lineups.

Brandt Snedeker (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,000, FanDuel – $11,300) – Sneds took home the Wyndham Championship trophy last year, has won here twice, and was 3rd in 2016 – this short course clearly suits his game very well. Has played in 22 events this season and has only missed 3 cuts. Has two top 5’s over the last month and a half, and was 27th last week at the WGC event. Expect a top 10 from Sneds this week with the potential to repeat and win for the third time here.

Billy Horschel (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,600, FanDuel – $11,000) – Horschel is coming off a 9th place finish last week at the WGC, and outside of the Open Championship where he missed the cut – he has been very solid for most of the season and especially since May. Has a 5th and an 11th over the last three years at this tournament, and another strong finish is almost a certainty this week.

undefinedPatrick Reed (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,700, FanDuel – $11,200) – Reed has really been impressive as of late with a 5th, 10th, 12th, and a 23rd over his past 4 events. Won this tournament in 2013, and had a 22nd when he last played in this event in 2016. Will be highly owned thanks to his lower price tag in relation to other top contenders this week.

Lucas Glover (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,700, FanDuel – $10,700) – Has been sizzling lately with a 7th, 10th, and a 20th in his most recent start at the Open Championship. From 2015 to 2017 he finished from 18th to 28th, and that should be his worst-case scenario this week with good upside for a top 10.

Scott Piercy (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,100, FanDuel – $9,900) – Has four top 20’s over his last seven starts and is coming off a 15th at the 3M Open after opening the tournament with an impressive 62. Has only missed three cuts in 20 events this season, was 45th last year at this tournament but I expect a nice improvement on that finish this week.

Rory Sabbatini (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,200, FanDuel – $10,100) – Other than his random missed cut at the 3M Open earlier this month, he has been rock solid with top 10’s and top 20’s happening on a regular basis since April. Had a 16th in his last start at the Open Championship, was 4th here in 2017, and at his price points, he’s such a strong start this week.

Collin Morikawa (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,400, FanDuel – $11,600) – Won last week at the Barracuda Championship and was 4th, and 2nd in his previous two starts before that. Out of six starts this season, the 22-year-old’s worst finish is 36th. The only two potential knocks against him this week are that he’s never played in this tournament before but course history doesn’t seem to matter to him and his finishes, and coming off a win – he might not follow that up strong as we often see poor finishes from previous week winners.

Martin Laird (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,900, FanDuel – $9,700) – Really like Laird at his salary numbers this week, especially since he’s coming off a 7th and 6th over the last two weeks. Has only missed one cut in his last 10 starts, and even though his finishes aren’t overly strong at this tournament – he was 45th last year and has made the cut three straight times since 2015, with a withdrawal coming in 2017.

Cameron Smith (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,000, FanDuel – $10,400) – Is trending in the right direction with a 29th, 20th, and a 12th place finish at the WGC event last week – so if this pattern continues he will finish top 10 this week. Was 7th here in 2017, and 18th in 2015.

5 Value Pick Players That Support the High-End Players In Lineups

Nick Taylor (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,800, FanDuel – $8,000) – Is underpriced this week in my opinion so it’s a good time to take advantage. Has made 7 straight cuts, is coming off a 15th at the Barbasol Championship, plus he was 8th here last year.

Vaughn Taylor (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,400, FanDuel – $8,700) – Has a 4th and a 6th over his last three tournaments, and much like Nick above has survived 7 straight cuts with his worst finish being a 58th during that stretch at the Charles Schwab Challenge in May. Has made the cut twice here since 2015.

Peter Malnati (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,100, FanDuel – $8,100) – Has only missed one cut in his last 14 starts, so he’s a good bet to play all four rounds in any given tournament right now. Had a 24th, 50th, and a 42nd in the last three years at this tourney.

Roger Sloan (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,100, FanDuel – $7,900) – The Canadian has really picked up his game as of late with finishes ranging from 7th to 21st over his last four starts.

Ryan Armour (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,900, FanDuel – $8,500) – Had an 8th and a 4th at the Wyndham Championship over the last two years, and has made the cut in four of his last five events – is a solid GPP play this week.

Build some impressive lineups this week in the last regular-season event of the 2018-2019 season, and put some contest wins on the board come Sunday evening!
