All 32 NFL Team Draft Needs
It’s finally happening. After months of waiting, one of the biggest sporting events of the year is nearly here! The second-biggest event on the NFL calendar is the NFL Draft. This year’s NFL Draft 2023 is taking place with Round One on Thursday, April 27th at 8 p.m. EST. Rounds Two and Three will happen on Friday, April 28th, starting at 7 p.m. EST. The final four rounds will take place all day long on Saturday, April 29th. For the first time ever, the NFL will conduct the draft in Kansas City, the home of the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs. Expectations are huge for enormous boos towards Commissioner Roger Goodell and for hundreds of thousands of fans to celebrate the NFL fest. It’ll all happen at historic Union Station where 259 men will learn where their future homes will be in the NFL.
Of course, not all 259 picks are owned by one team, there are 32 teams in the league, and each one gets assigned a pick for all seven rounds, however, teams are free to trade any pick. Yet, not all of those 259 picks will be all guys on defense or offense. Some say this year’s draft is defensive-heavy while others say there’s plenty of depth in the offensive portion of the draft class. No single team is perfect or without needs or doesn’t need improvement. Not even the Chiefs. Thus, what are all 32 teams’ needs before the NFL Draft? Not always do you draft for your needs, but it does help guide you during the draft. As such, you can expect plenty of these teams to fill their needs before their wants during this upcoming NFL Draft. Let’s get started!
What are Every NFL Team’s Needs Before the NFL Draft?
Carolina Panthers Needs: QB, Edge, WR, OL, CB
There’s no mistake that the biggest need is at QB. That will be addressed after the move up to #1. However, Brian Burns needs a new rushing partner on defense and the new QB could use a new young weapon outside beyond Thielen and Chark.
Houston Texans Needs: QB, Edge, WR, OL, and Defense
The Texans badly need a QB, but they could pass on it if they want to rebuild this awful defense. Edge is the biggest need there and the team needs youth all over on defense and WR.
Arizona Cardinals Needs: Edge, DL, CB, WR, OL, QB, and RB
The team needs new youth at tackle, OL, and especially at center. They have nearly zero depth at CB and have painstakingly needed a young star Edge since Reddick left town.
Indianapolis Colts Needs: QB, OL, CB, Edge, LB
The Colts need a QB. They can’t afford to whiff on one this year. After that, they need a new CB or two, a star Edge, and an LB to replace Bobby Okereke.
Seattle Seahawks Needs: DL, Edge, WR, QB, LB, TE
The Seahawks want to win this year which means they should go defensive-heavy. If they don’t believe in Geno Smith, then taking a young QB is wise too. However, they badly need help along the DL, especially at the edge.
Detroit Lions Needs: Edge, DL, TE, CB, QB, OL, WR
The Lions are so close to making the playoffs again that not going QB here is understandable. However, they must get a star young CB and help for Aidan Hutchinson on the DL. Another pass-catcher would make this unit deadlier as well.
Las Vegas Raiders Needs: Edge, OT, CB, DL, TE, SS
The Raiders could truly use help at every position. However, they must address their tackle, CB, and Edge spots if they want to win at all this year. It’s a pressing need and Chandler Jones can’t do it all on his own.
Atlanta Falcons Needs: Edge, CB, RB, WR
The Falcons seem to believe in Desmond Ridder. Thus, they desperately need some help out wide and at RB. Bijan anyone? Also, the team must find help at the Edge and CB positions.
Chicago Bears Needs: OT, Edge, DL, CB, RB, OL
The Bears believe in Fields which means they have to protect him. They need to stop the turnstile at the tackle position. Plus, they got to get a guy who can get after the QB or intercept the QB. Preferably both. Protecting Fields must come first.
Philadelphia Eagles Needs: Edge, RB, SS, CB, WR, OL
The Eagles are well-set at many spots and merely need a ton of depth and youth. However, three spots that must be addressed if they want to win it all this year are a new edge partner for Haason Reddick, a stronger RB, and a new star SS.
Tennessee Titans Needs: QB, WR, OT, OL, DL, LB
The Titans are close to being a rebuilding team. They need a new long-term QB, better WRs, and way better protection up front. Tackle must be addressed as does LB.
New York Jets Needs: OT, SS, DL, CB, OL, Edge
The Jets must finally get someone to protect the QB, especially if it’s going to be Aaron Rodgers. That’s the biggest need. Beyond that, they need to fill out their defense with a new starter at SS, CB, and edge.
New England Patriots Need CB, WR, OT, Edge, SS
The Patriots are singing the same tune as the last few years. They badly need help at CB, WR, OT, and edge. Otherwise, it’s gonna be another long season in New England.
Green Bay Packers Needs: SS, TE, WR, Edge, OL
The Packers must acquire a new outside WR and a strong receiving TE to help Jordan Love grow. The other huge need is at SS where they must get someone who can help out in coverage or run defense.
Washington Commanders Needs: CB, OL, TE, Edge, QB, RB
The Commanders seem set on giving Howell the year to prove himself. They have to protect the young gunslinger by acquiring some starters through the draft at the line and TE. Otherwise, they must get a starting outside CB, otherwise, they’ll continue to be burnt deep.
Pittsburgh Steelers Needs: OT, CB, SS, LB, DL
First and foremost, the Steelers MUST protect Kenny Pickett if he’s to grow at all. Then, they MUST get a CB as Patrick Peterson is not the long-term answer. Those two needs outweigh everything else.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Needs: QB, Edge, CB, SS, WR, RB, OT
Baker Mayfield is not the long-term answer at QB, that must be addressed. They badly need new youth and speed at edge and CB. Plus, getting younger at WR and finding Rachaad White a rushing partner should be imperative.
Los Angeles Chargers Needs: WR, RB, TE, DL, Edge, OT, CB
The Chargers won’t have Mike Williams and Keenan Allen in a year and must get a new star WR for Herbert. The same is true at TE. As for defense, the needs remain the same, youth and speed at the edge, CB, and DL positions.
Baltimore Ravens Needs: WR, CB, Edge, RB, DL, and maybe QB?
The Ravens very well might need a new QB depending on what Lamar Jackson does. However, this team badly needs help at WR, even with OBJ there now, and at CB. Marlon Humphrey continues to get hurt and can’t do it all on his own.
Minnesota Vikings Needs CB, DL, WR, LB, QB
The Vikings need to find a long-term answer at QB. However, they must first get an actual starting CB, starters on the DL, and especially a new running mate with Justin Jefferson now that Thielen is gone. The Vikings can win now but must figure out this defense.
Jacksonville Jaguars Needs: SS, CB, OT, Edge, RB
The Jaguars must continue to build out their secondary. They were slaughtered back there by the Chiefs. Beyond that, they have to get a new right tackle with James gone. Protecting Lawrence is all that matters right now.
New York Giants Needs: WR, CB, SS, Center, Edge
The Giants must get Daniel Jones some help outside, it’s been years. Beyond that, the Giants will need new starters at center and CB, plus some depth at Edge and SS. This is a team on the rise if they can get some more receiving help.
Dallas Cowboys Needs: RB, OL, DL, Edge, TE, WR
For a playoff team, the Cowboys need a ton of help. They got to replace Zeke and Schultz. Protecting Dak Prescott better means that the OL has to be addressed. The same is true for the defense after being gashed by the rush constantly. A new long-term WR2 is a big need too.
Buffalo Bills Needs: WR, OL, DL, LB, Edge
The team needs a running mate for Diggs. They are wasting his and Allen’s prime. Protecting Allen must be addressed. Getting another young and fast Edge to complement the aging Von Miller should be focused on as well as another LB next to Matt Milano.
Cincinnati Bengals Needs: TE, OL, CB, SS, RB
Mixon might not be on the team in Week 1, so getting a new starter is essential. The same goes for TE with Hayden Hurst gone. Burrow needs a new SS net. Beyond that, the Bengals saw their secondary disappear during free agency. They need to get a whole fresh batch of starters back there.
New Orleans Saints Needs: DL, Edge, SS, WR, TE
The Saints must get a whole new DL for the long term following many key departures. The Saints have to get another WR opposite Chris Olave and a new TE for QB Derek Carr. Beyond that, the team needs help at SS and OL depth.
Kansas City Chiefs Needs: WR, OT, Edge, SS, RB
The Chiefs must get help at WR as Kelce can’t do it all again and Toney is unreliable. They need a new left tackle badly with Brown Jr. gone. Protecting Mahomes must be the absolute focus. Beyond that, a rushing partner for Pacheco and depth at edge/SS are the biggest needs.
Teams without a first-round pick:
Cleveland Browns Needs: DL, Edge, RB, OT, LB
The Browns have to get Garrett some help on the DL. One man can’t defend the run and rush the passer by himself. They need a new backup for Chubb, and truly just need to really flesh out their defense. The offense is mostly set, but the defense is a big question mark.
Denver Broncos Needs: Center, Edge, RB, LB, DL
The Broncos have a new coach and staff, so expect some wholesale changes to happen during the draft. The obvious needs are at the OL, particularly the center, and at RB, Javonte Williams is coming off a torn ACL and needs help. LBs could use an impact player as well as more help at Edge after losing Chubb.
Los Angeles Rams Needs: Edge, CB, OT, WR, SS, RB
For winning the Super Bowl a year or so ago, the Rams are littered with holes on their roster. Nearly every spot needs help, but after losing Ramsey, the Rams must get impact starters at CB and Edge. Those two are black holes on this roster.
Miami Dolphins Needs: TE, RB, OL/Tackle, SS, QB
The Dolphins must get a new starting TE. Beyond that, they have to bring in competition at right tackle with Austin Jackson and should get another young backup QB. Acquiring a young RB to develop for 2024 would be ideal as Jeff Wilson Jr. and Raheem Mostert aren’t the pictures of perfect health during an NFL season.
San Francisco 49ers Needs: OT, CB, Edge, TE, SS
There are two dire spots on this 49ers roster. Those spots are right tackle and CB. San Francisco must acquire at least two new starters for those spots respectively. Getting more speed and depth opposite Nick Bosa is smart. Plus, it’s time to find George Kittle a reliable backup that can take some of the dirty work off Kittle’s shoulders to keep him healthy long-term.
Be sure to watch the NFL Draft and see what needs these NFL teams are able to fix during this exciting three-day event. May the Force be with You and your favorite NFL team this weekend…
