4 Daily Fantasy NFL Preseason Tips To Help You Win

DFS NFL Preseason Tips

Preseason action isn’t as exhilarating as the regular season, but it’s still NFL football. You have an opportunity to fund a portion of your regular season DFS bankroll over the next month by implementing what I’m about to share with you. This article will share eight tips to help you dominate NFL preseason DFS.

1. Preseason Coaching Strategy

Preseason games are an exhibition, but each coaching staff wants to win. No head coach in the NFL wants to taste the bitterness of the beverage known as defeat even if the game is meaningless. One goal of the preseason is to find the best 53 players for the regular season. At the beginning of training camp, teams have 90 players on their roster. This number must be reduced to 75 prior to the final preseason game. Then it must be reduced down to 53 by August 31st. The second and most important goal is to finish the preseason without any injuries.

Every team will play four preseason games except the Falcons and Broncos since their participating in the Hall of Fame game who will play five. Here is how the playing time is generally distributed:

  • Week 1: Starters will typically play as much as one quarter or as little as one series.
  • Week 2: Starters will play one quarter or more
  • Week 3: Starters will play the first half
  • Week 4: Starters don’t play at all

Volume trumps all when it comes to players to target. You want to prioritize wide receivers who will see as many targets as possible with the first or second string. At running back prioritize those who could see a high number of opportunities (rushing attempts or targets). Do not take whether it’s with the first, second, or third offensive line into consideration. You want to target tight ends who run a high number of pass routes. At quarterback, it’s all about passing attempts. Defenses are more predictable during the preseason than they are during the regular season. The best offensive players aren’t seeing the vast majority of snaps. During the preseason scores are lower and defensive players historically get more playing time. Would you be salivating at the scenario of a first-team defense facing a third-string quarterback? This dream scenario can occur during the preseason. The Vegas odds we provide are useful when figuring out which DST to select when assembling your DFS lineup.

2. Listen to Beat Writers

You want to target players battling for a roster spot or in a position group decimated by injuries. NFL beat writers can deduce who will play the most snaps in games and potential breakout candidates. Most will list players expected to sit prior within an hour or two of game time. Twitter is the best resource available to search for this information. Sigmund Bloom, Jeff Haseley, and Chris Wesseling have all created lists that include beat writers for every NFL game. You can view the list without signing up for Twitter. Our Player News is also something that you can leverage along with our detailed Depth Charts for every team.

One way that you can organize all of the information mentioned above is by using Excel. Draft Kings allows you to download a CSV file that includes player names and salaries. You can customize the spreadsheet to your liking from there.

3. Don’t Be Afraid of Guaranteed Prize Pools or GPPs

NFL team are not required to have an inactive list in the preseason. Novice DFS players waste roster spots by starting players that were declared inactive before the game. Everyone in the preseason has a similar salary. Some novice players insert an established starter such as Davante Adams into their DFS lineup “hoping” for a big play or series. A high number of the lineups in preseason GPPs are beatable. Use this to your advantage.
