Fantasy Football Week 9 Streaming Picks
Last week was awful in terms of streaming picks outside of the Philadelphia Eagles defense. Teddy Bridgewater suffered a neck injury and then returned. The Raiders and Browns game involved rain, sleet, and wind, which then affected the passing game. Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t look right in a juicy matchup against the Seahawks and left the game with an ankle injury. Surprisingly, the Eagles activated Dallas Goedert off of injured reserve, which then made Richards Rodgers irrelevant.
However, it’s time to move forward into the fantasy football Week 9 streaming picks. Four teams have their bye weeks in Week 9 with the Bengals, Rams, Browns, and Eagles, meaning fantasy managers may need to replace Joe Burrow and Carson Wentz. Let’s dive into the top streaming quarterback, tight end, and defense picks with reasons why.
Week 9 Bye Weeks
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Los Angeles Rams
- Cleveland Browns
- Philadelphia Eagles
Quarterbacks
Derek Carr at LAC
Outside of Week 1 and Week 8 with the awful weather conditions, Derek Carr averaged 297 passing yards in the other five weeks. The Chargers allow the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks at 23.5 points per game. Drew Lock even threw three passing touchdowns against them, even though a lot of his production came in garbage time down 21 points heading into the fourth quarter.
Through six games, Carr averaged 287.3 passing yards per game with 13 passing touchdowns (No. 9), 8.2 yards per attempt (No. 7), and 19.4 fantasy points per game (No. 14). He should continue to produce as a top-15 quarterback, especially in Week 9. Carr ranks as the top streaming quarterback option in Week 9 with a safe floor. No weather concerns in Week 9 since they play in SoFi Stadium.
Cam Newton vs. NYJ
Sure, Cam Newton hasn’t looked great, and fantasy managers dropped Newton in some leagues. However, they face the Jets, and Newton still provides some value in the rushing game. Through six games, Newton ranks 3rd in carries, 3rd with 49.7 rushing yards per game, and 2nd with six rushing touchdowns. The Jets allowed the 7th most fantasy points to quarterbacks at 21.4 points per game, and Newton exceeded that mark in Week 1 and 2. It’s safe to expect him to reach that mark and potentially rank as a top-15 streaming quarterback in Week 9.

Kyle Allen vs. NYG
Coming off the bye week, Kyle Allen faces the Giants, who allow the 27th most fantasy points to quarterbacks at 16.1 points per game. In Week 6, Allen threw for 280 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and one interception. He ranked 16th in Week 6 and 17th in Week 7 amongst quarterbacks. The Giants run defense ranks 8th with 102 rushing yards allowed and 23rd with 252.8 passing yards allowed, meaning they limit the ground game.
Over the past three games, the Giants’ pass defense struggled a bit and allowed 286.7 passing yards per game. Expect Kyle Allen to throw for about 275 passing yards with a pair of touchdowns. Prioritize Newton and Carr, as Allen ranks as a deep league streaming quarterback pick in Week 9. However, Allen should finish right outside of the top-15 at quarterback with Joe Burrow and Carson Wentz on bye.
Drew Lock at ATL
Drew Lock ranks as a deep league flier since a lot of his production came in garbage time last week against the Chargers. In four games this season, throwing out Week 2 against the Steelers, Lock averaged 226 passing yards per game with zero touchdowns in two of the four games. However, Lock averaged over 250 passing yards over the past two weeks against the Chiefs and Chargers.
The mantra this entire season involves starting almost all offensive players against the Falcons defense. On the season, the Falcons rank 31st with 311.4 passing yards per game, but they rank 22nd with 270.7 passing yards per game over the past three games. Although the Falcons pass defense improved, expect Lock to potentially throw for about 250 passing yards with one or two passing touchdowns. Again, Lock is a risky, deep-league streaming quarterback pick in Week 9.
Tight Ends
Eric Ebron at DAL
Over the past six games, Eric Ebron looked like one of the more consistent streaming tight ends in terms of targets. Outside of Week 1, Ebron averaged 5.8 targets per game, slightly over four receptions, and 40 receiving yards, including one week with two catches for nine yards. Ebron ranks 15th with 37 targets, 14th with a 15.1% target share, and top-15 in receptions and receiving yards. With that said, Ebron ranks as the top streaming tight end pick in Week 9, especially since he faces the Cowboys defense, who allow the 12th most fantasy points to the position.

Logan Thomas vs. NYG
We might as well triple down on the Washington Football Team streaming picks in Week 9 to include Logan Thomas as the next best streaming pick. Thomas ranks top-12 in three categories with 40 targets (No. 12), a 17.2% target share (No. 11), and 328 air yards (No. 12). However, the issue lies with the 21 receptions (No. 18), 208 receiving yards (No. 22), and 8.5 fantasy points per game (No. 23). Over the past two games, Thomas displayed improved efficiency and caught seven of eight targets for over 100 receiving yards total with Kyle Allen as the quarterback. The Giants rank as a difficult matchup against the tight end position with 5.1 points per game (No. 27), but Thomas projects as a top-15 tight end in Week 9.
Beautiful toe-drag TD by Logan Thomas on the pass from Kyle Allen!

Jimmy Graham at TEN
Similar to Eric Ebron, veteran Jimmy Graham continues to earn targets throughout the season. Graham received five or more targets in seven out of eight games, with three games where he received more than seven. As we dive deeper into the tight end pool, we swim into the touchdown-dependent category, such as with Graham. On the season, Graham ranks 7th with 29 receptions, 17th with 247 receiving yards, and 5th with four touchdowns. Even though Graham ranks 4th with 49 targets, he averages 3.6 receptions and 30.9 receiving yards per game. Thus, we bank on a touchdown to save his day. Graham ranks as a touchdown-dependent streaming tight end pick in Week 9.
Defenses
Washington Football Team vs. NYG
In Week 9, the Washington Football Team and the New York Giants play each other, meaning stream both defenses against the opposing offenses. The last time they faced the Giants, they allowed 14 points and totaled one sack and one interception. According to Football Outsiders, the Football Team ranks 4th amongst defenses in DVOA, meaning they’re one of the top overall team defenses. In five out of eight games, opposing defenses sacked Daniel Jones three or more times. Jones recorded an interception in seven out of eight games and an interception or fumble in every game this season. The Football Team ranks as the top streaming defense pick in Week 9.
New York Giants at WAS
On the flip side, fire up the Giants defense facing Kyle Allen and the Washington Football team. As mentioned earlier, the Giants run defense ranks better than the pass defense in terms of rushing and passing yards allowed. Over the past three games, their run defense improved as they allowed 87.7 rushing yards per game (6th fewest) and 286.7 passing yards (bottom ten). In Week 6, when they faced the Football Team, the Giants defense racked up three sacks, one interception, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Although we don’t expect them to score another defensive touchdown, they can pressure the quarterback and potentially cause turnovers this week.
Houston Texans at JAC
With Gardner Minshew ruled out for Week 9, the Houston Texans rank as a risky dart throw of a streaming defense. The Texans rank in the bottom ten in terms of run and pass defense, according to Football Outsiders, meaning they’re not good. However, Jake Luton will start for the Jaguars at quarterback. If you just asked, who is Jake Luton? Well, you’re not alone.
Although James Robinson ranked 7th with 481 rushing yards through seven games, the Jaguars offensive line ranked 37th in run-blocking efficiency, according to Player Profiler. According to Football Outsiders, the Jaguars rank 29th in pass protection, and maybe the Texans pass rushers can record a few sacks on Luton. Again, it’s a little risky with the Texans since they have not performed well in 2020. However, it’s a solid bet to stream a defense against rookie quarterback Jake Luton in his first NFL start.
