The Los Angeles Angels placed left-hander Aaron Loup (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list on Friday after he felt something in his shoulder after pitching against the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this week on Sept. 19. His season is now over after the 35-year-old southpaw reliever recorded a 6.10 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings this year. The Angels hold a team option on Loup for next year, but they are likely to pay a $2 million buyout on his contract and make him a free agent. Loup had a save and nine holds for the Halos in 2023. Pitcher Davis Daniel was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Loup's spot on the active roster.
Los Angeles Angels reliever Aaron Loup (hamstring) has been activated from the 15-day injured list. This was the final roster move the Angels made in an attempt to shore up their bullpen. They optioned three arms to Triple-A and selected the contracts of two others so Loup's activation evens things out. The 35-year-old lefty has been out since early May with a hamstring strain and struggled mightily before hitting the shelf. He owns a rough 7.00 ERA, 2.11 WHIP, and 8:5 K/BB ratio over nine innings (11 appearances) on the season. He can be left on the waiver wire.
Los Angeles Angels reliever Aaron Loup is set to land on the injured list with a hamstring injury. The veteran southpaw said he injured his hamstring covering third base on a Paul Goldschmidt double in Thursday's series finale in St. Louis against the Cardinals. It's been a tough go for one of the game's more reliable lefty relievers over the last decade as Loup owns a 7.00 ERA through his first 11 appearances of the season. However, he also sports a 3.92 FIP while his .412 BABIP is sure to come back to earth in a hurry. Walks have been a key issue with an uncharacteristic 10.2% BB%, another figure that will surely shrink considering his 7.3% career mark.
The Los Angeles Angels have signed left-handed relief pitcher Aaron Loup to a two-year contract with $17 million dollars guaranteed. Loup will make $7.5 million dollars in the 2022 and 2023 seasons and then be subject to a $7.5 million dollar option in 2024 with a $2 million dollar buyout. This move reunites Loup with general manager Perry Minasian, who worked for the Blue Jays when Loup was in Toronto. Loup was arguably the best relief pitcher in the major leagues in 2021, when he allowed a 0.95 ERA in 56 2/3 innings for the New York Mets. He'll only hold value in fantasy leagues that reward holds, and he is not worth drafting.
Free-agent pitcher Aaron Loup is in contract discussions with the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and other teams, per Jon Heyman of the MLB Network. The 33-year-old was impressive in 2021, posting a 6-0 record along with a 0.95 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a 57:16 K:BB over 56 2/3 innings with the Mets. Loup will boost most team's bullpens but is mainly an option in deep formats in upcoming fantasy drafts in 2022.
New York Mets relief pitcher Aaron Loup allowed a rare solo home-run to Juan Soto in one inning of work on Sunday in the Mets 9-4 win over the Nationals. It was the first home run allowed by Loup all season and, even more impressively, the first earned run allowed by Loup in 23 straight outings dating back to July 4. Loup has been absolutely lights out in 2021, posting a minuscule 1.22 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 13 holds, and a 48:9 K:BB ratio in 44 1/3 innings pitched over 52 games. Loup should be rostered in any format that has holds as a scoring category. Even in fantasy formats that do not reward holds, Loup has fantasy relevance as a reliever who can help fantasy managers with ratios and strikeouts.
New York Mets relief pitcher Aaron Loup pitched a clean inning in the Mets 3-2 loss to the Dodgers on Friday, striking out one batter. It was Loup's twentieth straight appearance in which he did not allow an earned run and he has allowed only one earned run since May 21. Loup has become one of the Mets most consistent and reliable performers out of the bullpen in 2021. On the season, Loup owns a microscopic 1.12 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 45 strikeouts with 13 holds over 40 1/3 innings pitched in 48 games. Loup should be firmly on the radar of fantasy managers who play in leagues that reward holds if he is, somehow, still available on waiver wires. He can help with ratios and strikeouts while accumulating holds through the rest of the 2021 season.
The New York Mets relief pitcher Aaron Loup came up big on Saturday for the Mets once again. With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh inning with two outs and runners on first and third, Loup struck out Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger to preserve the tie. Although the Mets would go on to lose 2-1 in ten innings, Loup continues to get huge outs for the team and remains one of their best bullpen arms. He has allowed only one run since May 22, posting a 0.34 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP, and striking out 30 batters over that time (in 26 2/3 innings pitched). On the season, Loup owns a 1.18 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 43 strikeouts with 13 holds over 38 IP. Though Loup won't be in the mix for saves in Flushing, he should be on the radar of fantasy managers who play in leagues that reward holds. He can certainly help with ratios and strikeouts while accumulating holds through the rest of the 2021 season.
The New York Mets agreed with free-agent relief pitcher Aaron Loup on an undisclosed deal on Wednesday, according to a source. The 33-year-old had a 2.52 ERA while striking out 22 hitters and holding left-handed batters to a .212/.278/.303 slash line in 25 innings in 2020. After losing out on southpaw reliever Brad Hand, Loup is a decent consolation prize for New York. Daniel Zamora and Stephen Tarpley are the only other lefties on the team's 40-man roster. Loup has a 3.38 career ERA over nine big-league seasons with the Blue Jays, Phillies, Padres and Rays and relies on a four-pitch mix that helps neutralize both righties and lefties. He'll join a bullpen that includes Trevor May, Edwin Diaz, Jeurys Familia and Dellin Betances, all of which are right-handed. While Loup can be an effective weapon against lefties, he won't carry much fantasy appeal in a setup role.
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired relief pitcher Aaron Loup from the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday in exchange for pitcher Jacob Waguespack, according to a source. Loup is mainly a lefty specialist and holds a 4.54 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and career-high 10.6 K/9 in 35 2/3 innings this year. He has no fantasy value. Waguespack is a right-hander that has gone 4-6 with a 4.68 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 79 strikeouts in 21 games (15 starts) at Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year.
