Aaron Sabato Earns Texas League Player of the Week

Minnesota Twins first base prospect Aaron Sabato took home Texas League Player of the Week honors for his performance at Double-A Wichita last week. Over six games, the 26-year-old went 10-for-24 (.417) with five doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored, and he even stole one base. A 2020 first-round draft pick, Sabato struggled to a .209 batting average and .743 OPS with a 31.6 percent strikeout rate through the end of 2024, but looks to have finally begun to find his swing in 2025. An oblique injury delayed the start of his Double-A season until April 15, but through 37 games for the Wind Surge, the right-handed slugger has produced a .311 batting average with eight home runs and an improved 26.6 percent strikeout rate. What has always been a constant is a double-digit walk rate, and his 13.0 percent BB% has helped him to a strong .409 OBP so far this season. The UNC product could get a shot at Triple-A later this year, and he brings a powerful bat, so the Twins will want to see him finish strong if he's going to be in their 2026 plans.

Aaron Sabato Displays Power In Minors

Minnesota Twins first base prospect Aaron Sabato is a former first-round pick who has lived up to expectations so far, showing off a phenomenal power tool while also drawing a solid amount of walks. At times, he has appeared to be outmatched, especially when facing fastballs. This has led to a high strikeout rate, which often happens to power hitters in the majors but generally doesn't plague the most trustworthy bats in the minors. However, Sabato has worked hard to improve his swing amidst a challenging transition to pro baseball and wood bats. He has improved his timing and worked to pull the ball to left field rather than go the opposite way. The power is clearly there; now he just needs to take the next step with his contact. He also has good discipline and impressive knowledge of the strike zone, giving the Twins additional optimism about his long-term outlook. He does leave a lot to be desired defensively, so Sabato will need to hit his way into the majors and be content playing first base or designated hitter. The 23-year-old is coming off a strong week in which he went 7-for-21 with four homers, 11 RBI, four walks, and 10 runs. He showed off his power, drew some walks, and scored almost every time he reached base.
