Aaron Slegers Announces His Retirement

Free-agent right-hander Aaron Slegers officially announced on his Twitter account on Thursday that he is retiring from professional baseball. A right shoulder injury that limited him to two rehab outings last season is the big reason why he's decided to hang up his cleats after just five years in the big leagues. In his final MLB season in 2021 with the Los Angeles Angels, Slegers had a career-high 6.97 ERA (5.62 FIP), 1.87 WHIP, 15 walks and a career-high 25 strikeouts in 31 relief innings. The 30-year-old reliever will finish his short MLB career with a 3-4 record, 5.46 ERA (5.01 FIP), 1.36 WHIP, three saves, 28 walks and 59 strikeouts in 89 innings covering 49 appearances (six starts) with the Angels, Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays.

Luis Rengifo Recalled, Aaron Slegers Optioned

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake. The 24-year-old has only one hit at the MLB level this season. However, Rengifo is slashing .331/.402/.568 during his time with Salt Lake. It's unlikely that Rengifo does enough to warrant rostering in any fantasy formats. Possibly, he becomes a deep league option if he gets significant at-bats. Until then, he can be ignored, while right-hander Aaron Slegers heads to the minors in a corresponding move.

Aaron Slegers Faces Another Setback

Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher Aaron Slegers (back) did not pitch Thursday, as was originally the plan, due to what manager Joe Maddon described as "some tightness." Slegers has appeared in two Cactus League games and has not allowed a run over 2 1/3 frames. At 6-foot-10, Slegers is an exciting bullpen option, even though he has not yet generated gaudy strikeout numbers at the big league level. Having amassed three saves over the past two seasons with the Rays, Slegers figures to slot into a bullpen group that is looking up at Raisel Iglesias as its closer. Having already dealt with back spasms during camp, Slegers' ailment isn't a positive sign. Check back over the coming weeks to see if he shakes the injury in time to be named to the Opening Day roster.

Aaron Slegers Unlikely To Return

Minnesota Twins pitcher Aaron Slegers (shoulder) has not gotten back on a mound, meaning it's unlikely that he'll pitch again this year. Slegers has made three appearances in the big leagues (two starts) this year and has a 5.68 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and five strikeouts in just 12 2/3 innings. He's not on the fantasy radar.

Aaron Slegers Suffers Setback In Rehab

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Aaron Slegers (shoulder) was pulled off his rehab assignment after feeling pain in his shoulder. An MRI exam showed only inflammation, but he's being shut down for now. Slegers has made just three appearances over 12 2/3 innings in the majors this year and has a 5.68 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and just five K's. He can be ignored in fantasy.

Aaron Slegers Picks Up First Career Win

Minnesota Twins right-hander Aaron Slegers picked up his first MLB win on Thursday as he held the Baltimore Orioles to one run over six innings of work. Slegers struck out two and walked one in the ballgame. The Twins recalled Slegers to make a spot start, so he is expected to be optioned back to Triple-A Rochester following the strong outing. Slegers has shown some promise in his two starts this season, posting a 2.38 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 11 1/3 innings of work. Expect Slegers to get a longer look after the trade deadline, as the Twins will be selling off veteran pieces.

Aaron Slegers To Start For Twins Thursday

The Minnesota Twins will recall right-hander Aaron Slegers to make a start for them against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday. The team will have to clear a spot on the 25-man roster to make room for Slegers, but no move has been announced yet. Slegers made one previous start for the Twins this season, holding the Kansas City Royals to two runs in 5 1/3 innings of work. Slegers makes for an interesting, low-priced DFS option on Thursday, as the Orioles are 29th in the league in batting average, 26th in wOBA and sixth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

Aaron Slegers Optioned to Triple-A

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Aaron Slegers has been optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday. He spent one day with the Twins before getting optioned back to the minors to make room for pitcher David Hale, who was claimed off waivers. Slegers has a 2.00 ERA in three starts at Triple-A this season. He pitched briefly with the Twins last season. Slegers could return to the big league club some time this season, but he should be left on the waiver wire in all leagues right now.
