Adalberto Mejia Activated From 60-day Injured List
Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Adalberto Mejia (calf) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. He missed the first 56 games due to a strained right calf. Mejia allowed one run and three hits over 3 1/3 innings. Mejia was sharp during his minor-league rehab stint, and he didn't show many signs of rust in his first action since late April. Still, his fantasy appeal is limited in the deepest of AL-only formats using true middle relievers.
Adalberto Mejia to Injured List; Mike Morin Recalled
Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Adalberto Mejia was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain on Thursday, and relief pitcher Mike Morin was recalled to replace him. Mejia has struggled mightily in 11 appearances this year, with an 8.74 ERA, 11-9 K-BB ratio, and 6.17 xFIP over 11 1/3 innings. Mejia also pitched to a 2.01 ERA in 22 1/3 innings last season, but that came with just a 5.40 xFIP and 5.67 SIERA. Mejia, Baseball Prospectus' 86th-ranked prospect before 2015, appears to be lacking any short- or long-term fantasy relevance at this point. Morin is also waiver fodder.
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia (wrist) has been ruled out for the rest of the year with a nerve issue in his left wrist area. Mejia appeared in only five games for the Twins (four starts) but had been a streaming option in deeper leagues with his 2.01 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 5.2 K/9 in 22 1/3 innings. The left-hander will compete for a rotation spot out of spring training next season.
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia (elbow) has been diagnosed with nerve irritation in his arm, and there is no timetable for him to start rehab. With the Twins well out of playoff contention, they are content to simply rest the left-handed pitcher. The southpaw had pitched well in his five appearances (four starts), going 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 13 strikeouts, even if his peripherals showed impending regression. You can probably drop him now, since there's a good chance we won't see him for the rest of the season.
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia (wrist, biceps) is going for further testing on his biceps area. Mejia was placed on the disabled list on Friday with a wrist injury, but it appears he might be dealing with something else, too. If that's the case, he might have to miss more than just one or two starts. The left-hander has gone 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in five outings (four starts), but he has just 13 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings and is due for some negative regression.
The Minnesota Twins placed starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia (wrist) on the 10-day disabled list on Friday with a left wrist strain and recalled reliever Tyler Duffey and infielder Tyler Austin from Triple-A Rochester in corresponding moves. Mejia has been great for the Twins in five outings (four starts) with a 2.01 ERA, but his 5.24 K/9 and .239 BABIP against in a small sample size should make you worry. Expect him to be back in the rotation when he's ready. Duffey will likely pitch in low-leverage situations, so he can be avoided. Austin hit just .223/.280/.471 with eight homers and 23 RBI in 34 games with the Yankees, but he could be an AL-only option against left-handers.
With the swelling in Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia's wrist down, he will do some long tossing on Thursday and throw a bullpen session on Friday. A decision will be made after that if he can make his next start on Sunday against the Tigers. The left-hander tossed five scoreless innings against the first-place Indians earlier this week and has a 2.01 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 5.2 K/9 in five outings (four starts). The sample size is small and regression is coming with his low whiff rate, but he'd still be an attractive streamer against Detroit if he gets the clearance.
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia (wrist) is confident that he'll make his next start on Sunday against the Tigers. Mejia's wrist stinger ran up the outside of his arm, not the inside, which would suggest that he avoided a dreaded UCL injury. The left-hander picked up the win against the Indians on Tuesday by allowing only one hit in five scoreless innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Mejia has been solid for Minnesota, going 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA, but his 86.5 left-on-base percentage, .239 BABIP and weak 5.24 K/9 should raise suspicions that this won't last. Still, he'll be a recommended play this Sunday if he faces Detroit.
On Tuesday, Minnesota Twins left-hander Adalberto Mejia had an excellent start against the Cleveland Indians cut short by a strained left wrist. The lefty held Cleveland scoreless over five innings, allowing just two baserunners and striking out three, but he didn't come out for the sixth inning after throwing just 68 pitches. Manager Paul Molitor told reporters Mejia experienced a stinging effect in the lower left forearm, closer to the wrist, that radiated up to the elbow. According to reports, the team is not planning on having Mejia go for an MRI because he responded well to treatment on Tuesday night. It remains to be seen whether he is ready to take his next turn in the rotation. Mejia has pitched to a 2-0 record, 2.01 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings of work this season.
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia (wrist) left his start early with a left wrist strain on Tuesday. He still managed to pick up the win against the Indians by allowing just a single hit while walking one and striking out three in five solid innings. The left-hander is now 2-0 on the season with a 2.01 ERA in four starts (22 1/3 innings). However, his weak 5.24 K/9 and bloated 86.5 left-on-base percentage points to regression ahead. Hopefully his injury isn't serious enough for him to have to miss his next turn.
