Anderson Tejeda Recalled From Alternate Site

Texas Rangers infielder Anderson Tejeda was recalled from the club's alternate training site on Friday. He was activated to take the place of injured utility player Brock Holt (hamstring). Tejeda is in the lineup on Friday night playing third base. Normally a shortstop, he had recently been playing the position at the alternate site and was showing off his power. The 22-year-old made his MLB debut last season but had never played higher than A-ball prior to that move. In 24 MLB games, Tejeda produced a 92 wRC+ and struck out at a 39% rate. He hit 19 home runs in A-ball in 2018 and power is his best tool. Tejeda has only Culberson to battle for playing time at the hot corner.

Anderson Tejeda To Get More Minor League Seasoning

Texas Rangers infielder Anderson Tejeda was a surprise contributor to the club in 2020 but he'll open this year at the alternate training site. He had a solid showing in spring training by hitting 8-for-20 (.400) with three doubles and a BB-K of 3-8 but with Nick Solak at second base and Isiah Kiner-Falefa at shortstop, there wasn't enough projected playing time to justify keeping the 22-year-old at the MLB level. Tejeda showed some impressive power during his 23-game stint at the MLB level in 2020 with three home runs but his 39% strikeout rate left something to be desired. Prior to 2020, the rookie had not played above A-ball so some additional seasoning could help him cut down on the swing-and-miss tendencies.

Anderson Tejeda Scratched From Thursday’s Lineup

Texas Rangers second baseman/shortstop Anderson Tejeda (arm) was a late scratch from Thursdays starting nine versus Houston and right-hander Cristian Javier. Tejeda, the clubs No. 7 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is one of the young bats that the Rangers have been getting a look at down the stretch in 2020, as he has produced a .471 SLG in his first 20 games. With the club insisting that theyll have a younger look come next season, Tejeda figures to be an integral middle-infield cog moving forward. With a skin infection in his arm, Tejeda likely holds little fantasy value over the seasons final days.
