Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Anthony Castro was optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday, according to Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic. Over 22 games this season, Castro is 1-2 with one save, a 5.31 ERA, 1.328 WHIP and 30.2 percent strikeout rate across 21 1/3 innings of work. Needless to say, Castro really doesn't have value in any format right now even in SV/HLD formats. McGrath adds that this move will likely open up a space on the roster for reliever Ryan Borucki, who has been out since the beginning of May. But like with Castro, Borucki really doesn't have any value in fantasy either.
Anthony Castro, Joe Panik Activated From IL On Saturday
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Anthony Castro (forearm) and second baseman Joe Panik (calf) were activated from the injured list on Saturday, the team announced through Twitter. Castro has been out since the end of April with forearm tightness, while Panik last appeared in a game on May 9. Panik is slashing .226/.241/.302 with four RBI and two runs scored over 19 games this season, and can be safely ignored in practically all formats. Castro on the other hand has looked good with a 0.00 ERA and nine strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings of work. He's a good option to take a look at in SV/HLD formats.
Rafael Dolis, Anthony Castro Set For Bullpen Sessions
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Rafael Dolis (calf) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday. Reliever Anthony Castro (forearm) is hoping to throw a bullpen this weekend, but he still has some tightness in his forearm. Dolis landed on the 10-day injured list four days ago with a right calf strain, and there remains no timetable for his return, but it's a good sign that he's throwing a bullpen session already. With Julian Merryweather (oblique) on the 60-day injured list and Castro out with injury as well, Jordan Romano is leading a closer-by-committee approach in the Blue Jays bullpen that also includes Ryan Borucki and Tyler Chatwood. Romano had the most recent save and is the one to own if you're searching for saves in fantasy. Dolis should be back in the committee mix once he's healthy.
Anthony Castro Pitches Two Shutout Innings In Season Debut
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Castro threw two innings of relief on Wednesday afternoon during the club's 5-4 win against the New York Yankees. The right-hander had been recalled earlier in the day to take the place of injured reliever Julian Merryweather (oblique strain). Castro did not allow a hit or a walk over two shutout innings. He struck out one batter and induced four ground-ball outs. The 26-year-old reliever had been claimed off waivers from the Detroit Tigers in the offseason and had an outstanding spring training. During March, he posted a K-BB of 15-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 9.1 innings. He had one inning of MLB experience prior to this season.
Toronto Blue Jays young hurler Anthony Castro continues to get a long look in big-league camp and struck out two batters in a shutout frame against the Yankees on Wednesday. The right-hander was nabbed off waivers from the Detroit Tigers in December but was later designated for assignment by the Blue Jays and remained with the organization. The non-roster invitee has now struck out 11 batters while allowing just one run in 5.2 innings. Control has been his nemesis throughout his career but he's walked just one batter this spring and threw 10 of his 13 pitches for strikes on Wednesday. With injuries hitting the Jays' pitching staff, Castro could end up making an impact at the MLB level later this year. His fastball has been up to 96 mph.
