Joe Panik Retires From Baseball

Second baseman Joe Panik retired from professional baseball before the 2022 season. He slashed .207/.266/.284 with three home runs, 18 RBI, 17 runs and two stolen bases over 95 games for the Marlins/Blue Jays in 2021. The 31-year-old spent the majority of his career with the Giants and won a World Series ring with the team in 2014. He made the All-Star team in 2015. Panik finishes his career with a .264/.328/.372 slash line along with 42 home runs, 258 RBI, 340 runs and 22 stolen bases over 3,099 plate appearances.

Joe Panik Homers In His First Marlins At Bat

Miami Marlins infielder Joe Panik hit a home run in his first Marlins at bat in Wednesday's win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Panik went 2-for-4 with the homer and an RBI single. He scored two runs, drove in two, and also drew a walk. It was a great first game for Panik, who got the start at third base and hit seventh in the lineup. He likely won't be an everyday player for Don Mattingly's Marlins, but he should get enough at bats around the infield to be a guy worth keeping an eye on in DFS formats. Panik was acquired along with a minor league reliever from the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday in exchange for Adam Cimber and Corey Dickerson.

Joe Panik Slugs Second Homer

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Joe Panik hit his second home run of the season on Saturday as his club went on to beat the Astros 6-2. The 30-year-old veteran took Jose Urquidy out of the park for a three-run knock in the fourth as he finished the day going 2-for-4. Panik missed some time in May with a calf strain and is now finding almost an everyday role with Cavan Biggio sidelined. The depth of the Jays lineup is helping him generate some counting stats, but he's not quite worth adding in mixed-leagues since his power is few and far between.

Joe Panik Has Four Hits On Friday

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Joe Panik went 4-for-4 and hit his first homer of the season as the Jays defeated the Indians 11-2 on Friday night in seven innings. The veteran took Eli Morgan deep for a two-run shot in the third inning as he finished the day with three RBI and two runs scored. He was overdue for a few hits after missing half of May with a calf strain and entering the game with a .211 BA, but his performance tonight has him back up to a respectable .262 mark. With Cavan Biggio on the IL, Panik will play nearly everyday especially with his defensive versatility all around the infield. However, it's not enough to consider him for a fantasy spot in anything other than an AL-only format.

Anthony Castro, Joe Panik Activated From IL On Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Anthony Castro (forearm) and second baseman Joe Panik (calf) were activated from the injured list on Saturday, the team announced through Twitter. Castro has been out since the end of April with forearm tightness, while Panik last appeared in a game on May 9. Panik is slashing .226/.241/.302 with four RBI and two runs scored over 19 games this season, and can be safely ignored in practically all formats. Castro on the other hand has looked good with a 0.00 ERA and nine strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings of work. He's a good option to take a look at in SV/HLD formats.

George Springer, Joe Panik Take Batting Practice

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (quadriceps) and infielder Joe Panik (calf) took batting practice in the cages on Wednesday. Springer will begin a running progression on Thursday. The 31-year-old outfielder has been a huge disappointment for fantasy managers, as he's played in just four games in his first season in Toronto while dealing with oblique and quadriceps issues. Barring setbacks, Springer is hoping to return to the lineup by the end of May, and the Blue Jays and fantasy managers will be hoping he can hit the ground running by then. Panik, a utility infielder for Toronto, is currently on the 10-day injured list with a calf strain. He's hitting just .226/.241/.302 with no homers and four RBI in 19 games and can be ignored in most fantasy leagues.

Rowdy Tellez Sits Sunday, Joe Panik Starts At DH

Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Rowdy Tellez is not in the lineup on Sunday, as Joe Panik will get his first start of the year in the finale with the Yankees. Tellez's spring struggles have continued over into the start of the regular season, as he is 0-for-8 with three strikeouts in his first two games. Panik really isn't much of a fantasy option outside of deeper OBP formats, as he boasts a career .334 OBP and posted a career-best 14.2 percent walk rate in 2020.

Joe Panik Makes Blue Jays Roster

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Joe Panik has made the club's opening day roster. The veteran utility player was in camp as a non-roster invitee and will need to be added to the club's 40-man roster. He was informed that would likely not occur until Major League Baseball's deadline to set rosters because the Jays' roster is currently full and other decisions still need to be made. Panik performed OK this spring with a .310 average and BB-K of 2-1 but he hit just one extra-base hit. Last season in the majors, he produced an 83 wRC+ in 41 games with the Blue Jays. He can play second base, third base, and shortstop but has limited fantasy value.

Joe Panik Cracks Blue Jays 40-Man Roster

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Joe Panik has officially made the teams 40-man roster, with reliever Yennsy Diaz getting placed on the 60-day IL in a corresponding move. Panik had an opt-out in his contract, but the club purchased it to give them more depth in their infield. The 29-year-old hit .244 across 142 games split between the Giants and Mets, and has just nine homers and eight steals over his past two seasons combined. He doesnt offer much in the fantasy game other than some middling counting stats, so he can be ignored in all formats.

Cubs Considering Joe Panik

The Chicago Cubs have considered signing second baseman Joe Panik this offseason. Chicago is looking for a cheap solution to their keystone opening, and Panik would certainly be that. The 29-year-old lefty hitter slashed only .244/.315/.336 with five home runs, 50 runs, 39 RBI and four stolen bases in 142 games with the Giants and Mets last season. There's very little power and almost no speed, so Panik doesn't really move the needle at all in fantasy, even if he's playing every day. A move to Chicago would make him slightly more attractive in deep NL-only leagues, though.
