Seattle Mariners southpaw Ariel Miranda has been released Thursday. This move was made so the pitcher can pursue an opportunity to pitch in Japan. He made one spot start with the big league team in 2018 and pitched fairly well, but he ultimately never stuck in the rotation. Miranda was 5-0 with a 3.97 ERA at Triple-A Tacoma. The 29-year-old will try his luck overseas.
Seattle Mariners starter Ariel Miranda has been optioned to Triple-A to make room for outfielder Ben Gamel's return, per MLB.com. It seems now Miranda was called up strictly to start on Tuesday, throwing five innings of one-run baseball in the Mariners 4-1 loss to the Astros. Despite the solid start, Miranda is currently the odd man out in the Seattle starting rotation despite winning 13 games last season. He struggled mightily to finish 2017, posting a 6.14 ERA in the second half and finished the season with 37 home runs allowed. Miranda will go back to the minors but will be the first man up if the major league rotation suffers an injury in the near future.
George Springer Has Four Career Home Runs Against Ariel Miranda
Houston Astros outfielder George Springer is beginning to show signs of coming out of his early-season slump. Springer is 6-for-15 over his last four games with three solo home runs. Springer will have an excellent chance to add to that total Tuesday night against Mariners left-hander Ariel Miranda. Miranda is being called up from the minors to make the spot start and allowed 37 home runs last season. In his career, Springer has enjoyed success against Miranda, smacking four home runs in only 15 at-bats against him. The Astros leadoff man has an excellent chance to hit the ball hard somewhere Tuesday night and it would not surprise anyone if he took Miranda yard one more time. Springer is a great play in daily leagues and is a must-start in all other formats for Tuesday.
Seattle Mariners starter Ariel Miranda will get the start Tuesday against the Astros, per MLB.com. Miranda has begun the season in the minors after winning 13 games in 2017 for the team. The 29-year-old left-hander flashed some promise last season, posting a 3.81 and 3.32 ERA across 11 starts in the months of April and June, respectively. But he served up an astounding 37 home runs and posted a 6.91 ERA in the second half of the year. During that span, he gave up 17 of those long balls in a 56-inning span. Miranda will have a tough test against a dangerous Astros lineup and would not be a recommended play for Tuesday.
Ariel Miranda Hopes To Carry Solid Spring Into The 2018 Season
Seattle Mariners left-hander Ariel Miranda enjoyed a solid spring training, posting a 3.60 ERA in 15 preseason innings. The walks (seven) were on the high side, but he managed to strike out 16 batters. Miranda was at times the ace of the Mariners pitching staff last season after injuries completely depleted the group. This season will find him in a more advantageous position of pitching from the fourth spot in the rotation, and another season under his belt could yield some positive dividends. To have success, Miranda will have to cut down on the whopping 37 home runs he gave up in only 29 starts last season. If he can trim that number down, he could take a step forward this season.
Ariel Miranda Among Players Out Of Big League Camp
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Ariel Miranda was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Miranda did not make the big league rotation and the team will keep him as a starter in the minors. This also means that Felix Hernandez is good to go for the beginning of the season. Miranda allowed six earned runs in 15 Cactus League innings this Spring. Ryan Cook, Zach Vincej, Tuffy Gosewisch were also sent to minor league camp.
Andrew Moore Replacing Ariel Miranda In Rotation Sunday
Seattle Mariners pitcher Andrew Moore will replace starting pitcher Ariel Miranda and start Sunday against the Astros. Manager Scott Servais said Miranda could start again this year, but they want to give him a breather. Miranda has really struggled of late and is sporting an overall 4.90 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 on the year over 29 starts. He was merely an AL-only streamer before this, anyway. Moore has a 5.36 ERA over seven starts this year and is one to avoid against the potent Astros on Sunday.
Ariel Miranda pitched six innings, allowing one run but zero hits as the Mariners lost to the Astros 3-1. Miranda struck out five but walked six Houston hitters and allowed a sacrifice fly to Alex Bregman in the third inning. There's nothing stranger than throwing six no-hit innings and still allowing runs but Miranda was wildly effective in this one. Miranda will look to sharpen his approach in his next start.
Ariel Miranda walked six and only last 4 2/3 innings as the Mariners lost to the Angels 4-2. He allowed four runs on four hits, including surrendering his 30th home run of the season. There was a time a few months ago where Miranda could be considered the ace of the Mariners starting rotation. Since the All-Star break, the wheels have completely come off on Miranda's season. Over his last 27 2/3 innings pitched, he has allowed nine home runs and has an ERA of 6.75 as opposed to a 4.15 pre-All-Star break. Miranda continues to take the ball and eat up innings but his production is something that will not help any fantasy teams moving forward.
Ariel Miranda suffered another poor outing, allowing six runs on five hits through five innings of the Mariners extra-inning win over the A's. Again it was the home runs that doomed Miranda's performance. Miranda allowed a three-run bomb to Oakland's Kris Davis in the first inning and then a solo shot to Ryon Healy in the fifth that portended the end of his night. He has now allowed a whopping 29 home runs to opposing hitters and has not pitched past the sixth inning since June 30th. During that time his ERA has climbed almost a full run to 4.65. Miranda is a serviceable starter who at one point was the ace of an injury-plagued Mariners starting rotation. But its starts like these that keep cropping up that make Miranda less than attractive in fantasy right now.
