The Cincinnati Reds designated outfielder Aristides Aquino for assignment on Saturday. In a corresponding move, the Reds selected pitcher Connor Overton's contract from Triple-A Louisville to start against the Colorado Rockies. Aquino was hitting just .049 with one home run in 15 games this year while going 2-for-41 with 23 strikeouts. The 28-year-old was hitless in his last 25 at-bats. There's a chance he could clear waivers and be outrighted to Louisville. Aquino was signed as a 16-year-old and made his big-league debut in 2018 before returning in August of 2019, when he wowed everyone by hitting 14 home runs in August and 19 overall in 56 games. In 122 games from 2020 through this year, Aquino hit .164 with a .618 OPS and 13 homers while striking out 38% of the time.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino is starting in right field and batting second in the team's season opener against left-hander Max Fried and the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Nick Senzel and Tommy Pham are rounding out the starting outfield for the team with Tyler Naquin starting the season on the bench. The right-handed Aquino had a rough year in 2021, slashing just .190/.299/.408 over 84 games, but he still put together a sturdy 14.5% barrel rate. He has legit 30 home run potential if he can stay in the lineup and keep the strikeouts down, but those are both pretty big ifs at this point.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs, and two RBI in a 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Aquino was not in the original starting lineup but he replaced Nick Castellanos in the game and went on to blast a solo homer in the sixth inning. The veteran outfielder wraps up his 2021 campaign with a .190 average, 10 homers, 25 runs, 23 RBI, and two steals over 174 at-bats.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer and a walk in a 7-4 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Aquino launched his three-run shot off of Detroit starter Matthew Boyd in the third inning as part of a five-run inning for the Reds. The veteran outfielder has hit for power but is struggling in the average department this season, batting .185 with nine homers, 22 runs, 20 RBI, and a steal over 146 at-bats. He's batting just .128 over his past 15 games.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk, three runs, and three RBI in a 14-5 win over the Chicago Cubs on Monday. Drawing his first start in place of the injured Jesse Winker, Aquino launched a two-run homer off of Chicago reliever Michael Rucker in the fifth inning, Aquino is now hitting .216 with eight homers, 19 runs, 17 RBI, and a steal in 111 at-bats. He has plenty of power in his bat and could be worth a waiver add in deeper leagues while Winker is out.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. With normal left-fielder Jesse Winker getting the day off, the team inserted Aquino into the lineup and he wound up providing the only offense for Cincinnati in the loss. Aquino is now hitting .229 with seven homers, 14 runs, 14 RBI, and a steal across 96 at-bats in 2021. He won't be playing every day in the crowded Cincinnati outfield, but Aquino is worth a look in DFS contests as a value option on nights where he is starting.
Aristides Aquino Hits Solo Homer In Loss On Friday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in an 11-6 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. Aquino was not originally in the starting lineup but he took over for Nick Castellanos after Castellanos was hit by a pitch during the third inning. Aquino is now hitting .234 with five homers, seven runs, eight RBI, and a steal over 47 at-bats this season. The team has yet to comment on Castellanos' status but Aquino would be in line for a possible starting job if the former were to miss any time. Aquino has plenty of power in his bat and is worth a look in deeper leagues if Castellanos misses an extended amount of time.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in a 7-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Monday. Aquino blasted a 400-foot solo shot off of left-hander J.A. Happ in the fourth inning, going back-to-back with Eugenio Suarez who hit a two-run homer. Aquino is showing his prolific power in limited playing time this season, hitting four homers in just 25 at-bats. The problem for Aquino is that he will remain an extra outfielder in what has become a crowded outfield in Cincinnati. From a fantasy perspective, Aquino is worth pursuing as a value option in DFS contests when he is starting.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino went 0-for-1 with a walk and a steal in a 3-2 loss to the San Diego Padres on Sunday. Aquino was not initially in the starting lineup but he pinch-hit for Tucker Barnhart in the contest and wound up picking up his first steal of the season. Aquino hasn't been playing much since being activated from the injured list as this was his first game action since Tuesday. Overall, the 27-year-old is hitting .182 with three homers, three runs, five RBI, and a steal across 22 at-bats.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Aristides Aquino went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk in a 10-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. In his first game back since being reinstated from the injured list, Aquino ripped his two-run shot in the ninth inning of the lopsided win. The veteran outfielder missed just over two months after fracturing the hamate bone in his hand. He has just 17 at-bats in 2021 but has already launched three homers over that span. Aquino is worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues going forward.
