Art Warren News
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Art Warren closed out the team's 6-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday to earn his first save of the year. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out one. Tony Santillan earned the team's first save of the year on Opening Day, but he was utilized in the eighth inning of Sunday's game. Santillan dealt with the heart of the Braves' lineup in the eighth inning, facing the two-through-six hitters in the lineup. Things are probably going to be fluid with the Cincinnati bullpen at least for now. When the Reds hold a late lead, Santillan may be called upon to face an opposing team's top hitters no matter which inning that may end up being, and that will make the saves picture quite messy. Meanwhile, keep in mind that Lucas Sims (back) will factor into the equation as well when he returns to the team - likely later this month.
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that relief pitcher Art Warren (oblique) could be out for three to six weeks with his oblique injury. Oblique injuries usually require an extended stay on the injured list for pitchers, so this shouldn't come as a huge surprise. Warren has been excellent in relief for the Reds this year, posting a 1.88 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 21/6 K/BB in 14 1/3 innings out of the bullpen in his first year in Cincinnati. His elite 36.2 percent strikeout rate is attractive, but Warren only deserves consideration in deeper saves/holds leagues when he returns from the injured list in the second half of the season.
The Cincinnati Reds placed relief pitcher Art Warren (oblique) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a left oblique strain. Warren injured his oblique in an outing last Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander has been excellent for the Reds out of the bullpen in 18 outings (14 1/3 innings), giving up just three earned runs while striking out 21 and walking only six. Because of the nature of his injury, the 28-year-old is likely to require more than 10 days to return to the team. Warren isn't much of a fantasy option, even in deep saves/holds leagues, but his ratios and elite 36.2 percent strikeout rate are enticing, albeit in a small sample size in 2021.
