Bartolo Colon News
Free-agent starting pitcher Bartolo Colon, who hasn't thrown a pitch in the major leagues since September of 2018, is hoping to pitch one more season in the majors, and he would prefer it being with the New York Mets if he was given the choice. Colon has pitched 21 seasons in the big leagues and has won 247 games during that time. "If it was up to me, I would retire with the Mets. I would like my career to end in New York," Colon said. The veteran right-hander will turn 47 years old next week, and while it would be a cool story if he made it back to the Show in 2020 or beyond, it seems highly unlikely at this point. Big Sexy didn't pitch at all in affiliated ball in 2019.
Free-agent starting pitcher Bartolo Colon intends to pitch in his 22nd season in 2019. Big Sexy will be 46 years old next May and struggled to a 7-12 record, 5.78 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 81 strikeouts in 146 1/3 innings over 28 outings (24 starts) for the Rangers in 2018. He obviously has very little left in the tank and may not actually make an impact on a major league roster next season. He can be avoided in fantasy no matter where he lands, which will likely be on a minor league deal.
Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister said that starting pitcher Bartolo Colon will be moved to the bullpen. Adrian Sampson will make the start in his place on Tuesday against the Angels. The 45-year-old hurler just hasn't been fantasy relevant this year, going 7-12 with a 5.55 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and only 81 strikeouts in 144 1/3 innings over 26 outings (24 starts). He's said he wants to continue his illustrious career in 2018, but there likely won't be many teams interested. Sampson was 8-7 with Triple-A Round Rock with a 3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and weak 6.0 K/9 in 33 outings (19 starts). He's not a recommended fantasy streamer against the Halos.
