Bartolo Colon News

Bartolo Colon Wants To Play One More Season

Free-agent starting pitcher Bartolo Colon, who hasn't thrown a pitch in the major leagues since September of 2018, is hoping to pitch one more season in the majors, and he would prefer it being with the New York Mets if he was given the choice. Colon has pitched 21 seasons in the big leagues and has won 247 games during that time. "If it was up to me, I would retire with the Mets. I would like my career to end in New York," Colon said. The veteran right-hander will turn 47 years old next week, and while it would be a cool story if he made it back to the Show in 2020 or beyond, it seems highly unlikely at this point. Big Sexy didn't pitch at all in affiliated ball in 2019.

Bartolo Colon Plans To Pitch In 2019

Free-agent starting pitcher Bartolo Colon intends to pitch in his 22nd season in 2019. Big Sexy will be 46 years old next May and struggled to a 7-12 record, 5.78 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 81 strikeouts in 146 1/3 innings over 28 outings (24 starts) for the Rangers in 2018. He obviously has very little left in the tank and may not actually make an impact on a major league roster next season. He can be avoided in fantasy no matter where he lands, which will likely be on a minor league deal.

Bartolo Colon To Bullpen, Adrian Sampson To Start Tuesday

Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister said that starting pitcher Bartolo Colon will be moved to the bullpen. Adrian Sampson will make the start in his place on Tuesday against the Angels. The 45-year-old hurler just hasn't been fantasy relevant this year, going 7-12 with a 5.55 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and only 81 strikeouts in 144 1/3 innings over 26 outings (24 starts). He's said he wants to continue his illustrious career in 2018, but there likely won't be many teams interested. Sampson was 8-7 with Triple-A Round Rock with a 3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and weak 6.0 K/9 in 33 outings (19 starts). He's not a recommended fantasy streamer against the Halos.

Rangers Not Committed To Bartolo Colon

Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister isn't fully committing to starting pitcher Bartolo Colon making his next start on Tuesday. Instead, the team could give the nod to Adrian Sampson, who has been effective at Triple-A Round Rock this year. Big Sexy has gone just 2-5 with an 8.12 ERA and is allowing hitters to bat .331 with a .994 OPS in 37 innings since the All-Star break. The veteran is also receiving $100,000 in bonuses for every 10 innings from 90-120 innings this year. Sampson went 8-4 with a 3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 6.0 K/9 in 33 outings (19 starts) for Round Rock in 2018. He's probably a better option than Colon at this point, but Sampson doesn't miss enough bats to be a realistic fantasy streamer against the Angels if he gets the call.

Bartolo Colon Wants To Continue Career

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Bartolo Colon said that he would like to return to the team next season. However, the 45-year-old won't be an appealing option for the Rangers, as he is 7-12 with a 5.55 ERA on the year, which is the second highest ERA in the majors. Colon has allowed the most home runs (30) this year. Big Sexy is also 5-10 with a 7.04 ERA in his last 17 starts since late May. As much as we'd all like to see Colon stick around, not many teams will probably want him on their major league roster. Texas might choose to bump Colon from the rotation for the final few weeks, too, in order to get a look at right-hander Adrian Sampson.

Bartolo Colon To Start Wednesday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Bartolo Colon will start Wednesday against the Angels. Big Sexy will be making his first start since coming off the disabled list over the weekend. If that wasn't enough reason to avoid him, the 45-year-old hurler is 7-11 on the year with a 5.45 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and terrible 5.0 K/9 over 25 outings (23 starts). Don't put him in your lineups on Wednesday, even in a decent matchup.

Bartolo Colon Activated From The Disabled List

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Bartolo Colon (back) was activated from the 10-day disabled list on Saturday. Colon was due to make his first start upon returning Sunday, but he has been scratched due to illness. Even when Colon does pitch, he is not a reliable streamer, owning a 5.45 ERA this season. In addition, in 140 1/3 innings Colon has just 78 strikeouts, which means that his upside is extremely limited. A lack of upside and poor performance this season makes Colon a tough pitcher to use in any circumstances.

Bartolo Colon Listed As Sunday Starter

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Bartolo Colon (back) will come off the disabled list and start on Sunday against the Twins. Despite the attractive matchup, Big Sexy hasn't been a reliable streaming pitcher for fantasy owners all year. The 45-year-old is 7-11 with a 5.45 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and terrible 5.0 K/9 in 25 outings (23 starts). He's especially unattractive in his first start off the DL, as he could be limited pitch-count wise.

Bartolo Colon Placed on 10-Day DL

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Bartolo Colon (back) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday. Colon suffered a lower back strain after his awful outing on Monday against the Athletics. There is a decent chance that Monday could've been Colon's last start with the Rangers. He's been horrendous this season and Texas may decide to give younger arms a chance in September. Infielder Hanser Alberto has been recalled to take Colon's spot on the active roster.

Bartolo Colon Could Start Monday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Bartolo Colon (back) is doing some long toss on Sunday and could start on Monday against the A's after being scratched from his start Sunday. The ageless wonder hasn't really helped fantasy owners with his 7-10 record, 5.19 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and weak 5.0 K/9 over 24 outings (22 starts). He'd also be a poor streaming option against the surging A's if he makes that start.
