Blake Swihart Placed On 10-Day IL

Swihart was finally getting some playing time after a tumultuous couple of months for the C/OF. He has suffered a strained right oblique, and the severity of the injury at this point is unclear. Swihart and his .167 AVG shouldn't affect you too much for your fantasy teams, as if you actually have him on your teams, you should probably consider dropping him anyway. In a corresponding roster move, the Diamondbacks called up Kevin Cron from AAA to add some bench depth.

Blake Swihart Officially Reports To The Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks added catcher/utility player Blake Swihart to the 40-man roster on Monday, as he officially reported to the team after his weekend trade from the Boston Red Sox. The BoSox acquired international trade pool money, as well as minor-league outfielder Marcus Wilson. The Diamondbacks also optioned RHP Jimmie Sherfy to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Swihart will be used in a utility role, according to general manager Mike Hazen. All NL-only fantasy owners need to drop a little FAAB money on Swihart, and he isn't a bad option in some mixed leagues, either, if manager Torey Lovullo can find regular playing time for him.

Blake Swihart Likely to Be Traded in Next 24 Hours

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart is expected to be traded in the next 24 hours, according to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. He was designated for assignment earlier in the week, so Swihart's time on the Red Sox is coming to an end. He was once a top prospect, but has a .255/.314/.365 line over parts of five seasons. He only saw 29 at-bats with the Red Sox this season, but he could have fantasy value elsewhere. Stay tuned to where he lands as Swihart could have value as an everyday player elsewhere.

Blake Swihart Designated For Assignment, Sandy Leon Coming Up

The Boston Red Sox designated catcher Blake Swihart for assignment on Tuesday, according to a source. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox are called up catcher Sandy Leon. The switch-hitting Swihart just never carved out a role in Boston and was hitting .231 (6-for-26) with a homer and four RBI this year. He'll either be traded now or claimed off waivers by another team, where he could actually wind up being fantasy relevant for once. Leon doesn't do much with the bat, therefore he isn't much of a fantasy option, but he should be able to help Boston's struggling pitching staff behind the dish.

Blake Swihart Turns In Another Good Start

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart posted another two-hit bid on Friday in the Red Sox loss against the Diamondbacks. Swihart has made the most of his promotion so far, slashing .500/.571/.833 in his 12 at-bats for the Red Sox. This is what the Red Sox have been waiting for and fantasy owners will hope that it sticks. Any time that Swihart is injected into the lineup, there is a chance for some pop and counting stats. Keep an eye out for how manager Alex Cora handles the catching situation, as Swihart has the clear edge offensively going forward.

Blake Swihart Clubs First Homer Of Season

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart finished with three hits in Wednesday night's win over the Athletics. The backstop hit his first home run of the season in the fifth inning. While it was just a solo shot, it got the eventual comeback by the Sox started en route to the 6-3 win in the ninth. While Swihart is the better hitter of a catching platoon with Christian Vazquez, the former only had eight home runs over 194 career games heading into Wednesday. Consistent playing time is a problem for the 27-year-old, so he's merely a deep AL-only option. Boston heads to Arizona over the weekend before returning to Fenway to face the Blue Jays and Orioles next week. Swihart should receive several starts and bat in the bottom half of a struggling Boston lineup.

Blake Swihart Named to Opening Day Roster

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart has made the Opening Day roster, according to Evan Drellich of WEEI. Subsequently, catcher Sandy Leon has been placed on waivers. He and Christian Vazquez will break camp as the teams' backstops to start the season. The 26-year-old has taken full advantage of his chance at the plate this spring, batting .414 over 29 at-bats with five RBI and three doubles. Swihart is certainly the offensive half of the catching platoon but by no means is he a fantasy must-have, even in a stout Boston lineup.

Blake Swihart Showing Up In Spring Training

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart has appeared in 10 games this spring and has been taking advantage of his chance to win the starting job in Beantown. A slash line of .360/.385/.480 with five RBI over 25 at-bats is far-and-away the best at the position, whereas Christian Vazquez and Sandy Leon are known more for their defensive abilities. At 26 years old, Swihart has yet to hold a full-time starting job but his hot bat is going to make it difficult for the Sox to decide on a primary backstop. If they go with Swihart, he'll likely be batting at the bottom half of a strong lineup, making fantasy-relevant opportunities hard to come by. The indecision here makes him hard to trust, even if you're punting the catcher position come draft day.

Blake Swihart is Back in The Lineup on Thursday

Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart is back in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Swihart has not seen much playing time lately, but could see more down the stretch of the season. He'll bat sixth and serve as the DH against righty Sam Gaviglio. It's tough to trust Swihart for fantasy purposes right now.

Blake Swihart Activated From DL

The Boston Red Sox activated catcher Blake Swihart (hamstring) from the disabled list on Tuesday. Catcher Dan Butler was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Swihart is hitting just .226/.288/.304 with one homer, six RBI and three stolen bases in 115 at-bats for the BoSox this year. He'll go back to being an option off the bench, and he doesn't carry much fantasy value.
