Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Brandon Finnegan will join the Triple-A Louisville bullpen after failing to impress as a starting pitcher. Finnegan has a 7.40 ERA through five starts with the Reds this season. He was sent to the minors and the results have been about the same as they were with the Reds. Hopefully a transition to the bullpen can help Finnegan regain some momentum. Finnegan belongs on the waiver wire in all leagues.
Brandon Finnegan Optioned To Make Room For Matt Harvey
The Cincinnati Reds optioned left-hander Brandon Finnegan to Triple-A Louisville on Friday in order to clear room to add newly-acquired right-hander Matt Harvey to the 25-man roster. Harvey will make his first start as a Red on Friday night as he gets set to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Finnegan went 0-3 with a 7.40 ERA in five starts and has struggled mightily with his control this season. He will look to get his season back on track in the minors. Interim manager Jim Riggleman said that they want Finnegan to get 100% healthy, insinuating that he was not fully recuperated from a biceps strain suffered during the spring.
Cincinnati Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman told the media on Monday that left-hander Brandon Finnegan will make his next start in Los Angeles. Finnegan's hold on a spot in the starting rotation has become tenuous due to his poor pitching but he will at least get one more shot to prove he belongs. Finnegan missed the first part of April with a biceps strain and has posted an 8.27 ERA in five starts this season.
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan struggled against the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Finnegan allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings of work, striking out two and walking three. The young southpaw really labored through the first inning, needing 29 pitches to record his first out of the game. Not surprisingly, he took the loss, with his record dropping to 0-3 on the season. Finnegan opened the season on the disabled list with a strained biceps and has struggled in his five starts since being activated, posting an 8.27 ERA and an ugly 14/15 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings of work. Finnegan has plenty of potential but he is going to need to command the strike zone better or he could find himself out of the starting rotation.
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan turned in a decent outing against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. He allowed three runs over five innings, striking out two and walking three. All of the damage off of Finnegan came via the long ball, as he allowed a solo shot to catcher Manny Pina and a two-run blast to outfielder Lorenzo Cain. Finnegan missed the first few weeks of the season with a biceps strain and hasn't been great since returning, posting an 0-2 record, 7.27 ERA and an ugly 12:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 17 1/3 innings of work. He is a better pitcher than he has shown in 2018, but he needs to stay on waivers until he starts showing results.
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan had a rough outing against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. Finnegan lasted just three innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out two. He didn't help his cause by issuing four walks in the ballgame. Finnegan started the season on the disabled list with a biceps strain but has not performed well in his two starts since being reinstated. He has allowed nine earned runs and walked eight batters in 7 1/3 innings. Both of his starts have come against the Cardinals. Finnegan showed flashes of being a reliable fantasy pitcher back in 2016 but he is a long way from showing the form he did back then. Keep him on waivers until he starts to show better command.
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan had a rough 2018 debut, allowing the St. Louis Cardinals to score five runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. Finnegan allowed six hits, walked four, and struck out four in the game. This was the first start of the season for the young southpaw, who suffered a biceps strain during spring training and opened the regular season on the disabled list. Finnegan is a better pitcher than he showed on Saturday but he has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons and will need to prove it to fantasy owners before he can be trusted.
Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan will make his 2018 debut on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Finnegan strained his biceps during a March 11 start in spring training and opened the regular season on the 10-day disabled list. He will bump Cody Reed, who was originally scheduled to pitch, from the rotation and into the bullpen. Finnegan made a rehab start at Triple-A on Monday, allowing four runs in five innings of work. The southpaw has plenty of potential but he's not on the streaming radar in his first start back from the DL.
Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price told reporters on Thursday that left-hander Brandon Finnegan (biceps) is likely to get the start on Saturday. Finnegan has been on the disabled list since the beginning of the season after suffering a strained biceps during the spring. He will take the mound against the St. Louis Cardinals. Finnegan has shown flashes of potential in the past but he should be avoided in his first start coming off the disabled list.
Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan (biceps) is getting close to returning to the team after opening the season on the 10-day disabled list. Finnegan threw a simulated game on Wednesday and the team had positive things to say about his performance. Manager Bryan Price stated, "(He) threw the ball really good. All of his pitches for strikes," and continued to say, "We're going to shoot to get him one more start in Louisville on Monday. At that point in time, we're hoping he'll be ready to come up and join us the next time through the rotation. We'll have to wait and see. Its very encouraging but we do want to get his innings up a little bit before we actually activate him. Finnegan should be back with the big league rotation sooner rather than later but will need to successfully complete a start at Triple-A Louisville first.
