Toronto Blue Jays infielder Breyvic Valera had his contract purchased from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday. The young infielder was slashing .313/.406/.460 slash line over 150 at-bats in the minors this season. He also collected three home runs, 11 doubles, and seven stolen bases with Buffalo. Valera saw one plate appearance during Sunday's blowout victory over the Texas Rangers. He did not get on base, but should be a useful option off the bench for the Jays. Left-hander Nick Allgeyer has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Both players can be ignored in fantasy formats right now.
Reese McGuire, Breyvic Valera Pass Through Waivers
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire and infielder Breyvic Valera both cleared waivers and were assigned outright to the club's alternate training site. The players had been designated for assignment at the end of the spring as both were out of minor league options. Retaining McGuire helps ensure the club has sufficient upper-level catching depth to weather an injury at the MLB level to either Danny Jansen or Alejandro Kirk. The club also recently acquired veteran minor league catcher Juan Graterol from the Los Angeles Angels. McGuire, 26, is known as a glove-first backstop and he hit just .073 last season in 19 games. Valera, 29, has 54 games of MLB experience but he has a career 62 wRC+.
Toronto Blue Jays utility man Breyvic Valera was designated for assignment on Thursday. The 29-year-old, with 54 games of MLB experience, was deemed expendable after he hit just .162 this spring. Valera appeared in 22 games so he was given a fair shot at earning a role but he also missed all of the 2020 season after getting stuck in Venezuela during the lockdown. He last played in the majors in 2019 when he appeared in 17 games split between the New York Yankees and the Jays. He produced an 83 wRC+. With a strong track record in the upper minors and the ability to play multiple positions, Valera could garner interest from other teams in need of depth.
Breyvic Valera Starting at Second Base on Saturday
New York Yankees infielder Breyvic Valera will get the nod at the second base for the first game of the doubleheader versus the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Breyvic Valera doesn't normally see much playing time, but is playing because Didi Gregorius (hand) is banged up right now. He'll bat eighth and play second base versus lefty Chris Sale. He's not a reliable fantasy option versus Sale on Saturday.
Baltimore Orioles infielder Breyvic Valera (finger) left the game early on Sunday with a bruised left index finger. Valera had a triple and a strikeout in three plate appearances before leaving the game. He's hitting just .234/.301/.266 with no homers and eight RBI in 75 plate appearances for the O's this year. You can keep avoided him in fantasy.
Los Angeles Dodgers minor league infielderBreyvic Valera has been sent to the Baltimore Orioles as part of the trade package for Manny Machado. Valera is not currently ranked in the Dodgers' top-30 prospects, however, he is the only player in the trade package with major league experience. He's appeared in 25 games at the major league level, hitting .172 with four RBI and four runs scored. In nine minor league seasons, he has hit .302 with 20 home runs, 329 RBI and 92 stolen bases. Valera has experience at both second and third base. At 26 years old, there's a chance the Orioles bring him up to the majors to finish out the season. If so, he could be a player to watch due to his speed potential.
Logan Forsythe Goes To DL, Breyvic Valera Called Up
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Logan Forsythe (shoulder) is going on the 10-day DL due to right shoulder inflammation. Recent acquisition Breyvic Valera will be called up to take his place. Forsythe left last night's game in the sixth inning before taking the field. There's no word on how severe his injury is yet. He's not really valuable in fantasy baseball, but was guaranteed real-world playing time due to Justin Turner's injury. Valera was traded from the Cardinals for Johan Mieses earlier this month. Valera is an on-base machine, posting an identical OBP of .417 at Triple-A this season and last. He also stole eleven bases across two minor league levels in 2017. He's worth keeping an eye on, especially if they slot him anywhere near the top of the lineup.
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Breyvic Valera was traded from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for minor league outfielder Johan Mieses. Valera was the Dominican League MVP last winter and could be the answer to the second base conundrum facing the team while Logan Forsythe mans third in Justin Turner's (wrist) absence. Valera had an impressive .819 OPS in 114 games for Triple-A Memphis last year and walked (38) more than he struck out (34). Given how deep the Cardinals are in the infield, he had no chance of making the squad. Now with the Dodgers, he's worth monitoring in deep leagues.
