Reese McGuire News
The Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a catcher swap. Zack Collins is headed to Toronto while Reese McGuire is on his way to Chicago. While it may seem like a perplexing trade on the surface, the reasoning behind it for both teams appears sound. In McGuire, the White Sox will have a more proven backup behind starter Yasmani Grandal. As for the Blue Jays, the club is loaded at catcher and the franchise wanted to reduce that depth. Collins has a minor league option left on his contract so he'll be headed to Triple-A while the team goes with just Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk as catching options to open the year.
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire had his best day at the plate so far this season on Sunday, going 4-for-5 in the team's 7-4 win over the Orioles. Three of his four knocks went for doubles as he scored twice and drove in another pair to help pace the offense to a series victory. The terrific day boosts McGuire's slash line to .277/.329/.431 with one homer, nine runs, and five RBI through 26 games. His numbers aren't lighting the world on fire, but he's arguably been the most productive bat that the Jays have gotten out of the catcher spot this season. It's not enough to thrust McGuire into a fantasy-relevant asset, but it could mean he gets more playing time moving forward with Danny Jansen set to return to the lineup soon.
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire hit a pair of singles on Wednesday, finishing the day going 2-for-3 with a run scored against the Red Sox. The 26-year-old has now recorded a hit in each of his last five starts as he is pushing teammate Danny Jansen into a near 50/50 split behind the plate. McGuire has a small platoon advantage since he bats from the left side, but Jansen isn't helping his playing time cause either with a lowly .141 BA on the year. McGuire is a player to watch out for in deeper leagues if he can work the timeshare in his favor.
